Re: [Bug 626662] Re: KVM images losing connectivity w/bridged network

2010-08-31 Thread Frank Groeneveld
Thanks, I have a machine up attempting to reproduce.  Will check its
 status tomorrow morning.
Great!

 1. I notice eth0 is up with only an ipv6 address.  Assuming you're not
 actually using it for
ipv6, you might try 'ifconfig eth0 down' and see if that helps.  Shouldn't
 make a difference,
but then as I recall from childhood, computers were supposed to not make
 mistakes.

Yes, there is no cable in that ethernetport. Are you really 1000%
sure? Because if I bring it down and my bridge stops, I will have to
travel 150km to go and fix it :)

 2. The kvm support in hardy was a technology preview.  We can't realistically
 backport
newer kvm to hardy than what you have because of kernel implications.  So if
 you are
using hardy because it is an LTS, is there any chance of upgrading to the
 Lucid 10.04.1
LTS release?  It's not as intellectually satisfying of a solution, but
 perhaps a time-saving one.

I know, I'm using an LTS release because of the support etc. I'm
planning to upgrade, but I was first testing with this VM. It might
give me problems with the production VM if I upgrade the host system,
and I don't want that (neither do my clients :P). So I am planning to
upgrade, but currently don't dare to do it. In a few weeks, my server
will need to be moved to a new datacenter, so I might then do the
upgrade (easier to debug etc when you're sitting next to it).

[Bug 626662] [NEW] KVM images losing connectivity w/bridged network

2010-08-30 Thread Frank Groeneveld
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: qemu-kvm

I'm opening a new bug as per Serge Hallyn's request in bug #584048.

I experience problems with one of my KVM virtual machines. I have a host
running Hardy LTS with the KVM backport ppa (1:84+dfsg-
0ubuntu12.1~rc5ppa). The host is using a bridged network with 2 eth's
(only 1 is physically connected) and 2 tap devices (for both of my VMs).
The virtual machine that works without a problem is running Hardy LTS as
well. The machine with problems is running Lucid LTS.

The machines are started as:

screen -t production kvm -m 2048m -nographic -drive
file=production.raw,if=virtio,boot=on -net
nic,macaddr=52:54:00:12:34:xx,model=virtio -net
tap,ifname=tap0,script=no,downscript=no -smp 2

screen -t development kvm -m 1024m -nographic -drive
file=development.raw,if=virtio,boot=on -net
nic,macaddr=52:54:00:12:34:yy,model=virtio -net
tap,ifname=tap1,script=no,downscript=no

Development is the machine giving me problems. After a while (less than
24 hours) of no network activity, the machine loses it's connectivity.
We're currently keeping it running by sending a ping request every
minute and this seems to work, but the network seems pretty slow
sometimes.

[Bug 584048] Re: kvm images losing connectivity w/bridged network

2010-08-27 Thread Frank Groeneveld
Hi Serge,

Thanks for your time!

The problem is not with the mac addresses (at least not for me). As I reported
earlier:
For me, these are not related, because I'm not modifying the bridge
when the connectivity is lost. As long as there is steady network
trafic (for example a ping every minute), the connectivity is not
lost. As soon as I stop this, the connectivity will be lost within a
 few hours.

Also note that my situation is like this:
I have a host running Hardy with a bridge with two eth's and two tap devices. I
have two kvm guests: one is Hardy as well and one is Lucid. Only the Lucid
machines loses connectivity, the Hardy machine works fine. In KVM I have
hardcoded the mac addresses (due to an issue of years before where both
machines could get the same mac address).

[Bug 475747] Re: Apache2 initscript gives wrong output

2009-11-05 Thread Frank Groeneveld
Hmm, why does ubuntu-bug attach my xsession-errors file for apache? :P
Another bug?

[Bug 475747] Re: Apache2 initscript gives wrong output

2009-11-05 Thread Frank Groeneveld
Of course you have to be root. Thats the whole point of this bug. The
script report apache is stopped, but it can't be and it isn't. The
output of the script is wrong for non-root users.

Re: [Bug 416318] Re: Apache doesn't honor existing bootscripts

2009-09-29 Thread Frank Groeneveld
I tried both removing i with update-rc.d and removing it manually from
the rc?.d directories. I didn't see a need for removing the init.d
file.

Re: [Bug 416318] Re: Apache doesn't honor existing bootscripts

2009-09-09 Thread Frank Groeneveld
Ok, sorry. I'm seeing this behaviour on my Jaunty installation, so
that's Apache version 2.2.11-2ubuntu2
However, this behaviour was also seen on Hardy and Intrepid (by me). I
just didn't report this bug back than.

Thanks,

Frank

 Hi Frank,

Yes it does matter since I would like to reproduce this.

 Thanks

[Bug 416318] [NEW] Apache doesn't honor existing bootscripts

2009-08-20 Thread Frank Groeneveld
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apache2

On my desktop system I have installed apache for testing purposes.
However, I don't want it to start on boot, so I used update-rc.d to
remove the apache service. However, after upgrading apache, these files
are always installed again, meaning I have to update-rc.d also.

** Affects: apache2 (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Tags: apache boot init

[Bug 416318] Re: Apache doesn't honor existing bootscripts

2009-08-20 Thread Frank Groeneveld
Does it matter? I'm using the newest available version on Jaunty, but it
has happened to me before on all the older releases, I just didn't take
the time to report the bug.

Re: [Bug 105457] Re: mysqd_safe high cpu usage

2009-06-03 Thread Frank Groeneveld
We already know that the bug is triggered by something that restart
the mysql process (On my server it sometimes even occurs when I run
/etc/init.d/mysql restart)

2009/6/3 NickA sdnick...@gmail.com:
I woke up this morning and found I was experiencing this issue on 9.04
(final, standard desktop version).  I also saw two instances of
mysql_safe with one eating all the CPU.  I installed mytop but didn't
see anything happening, and /etc/init.d/mysql restart did not help.
Both mysql.log and mysql.err were empty files.

The only mysql database on this box is for Amarok 1.4, and amarok was not
running at the time.  Last night the problem was definitely not occurring,
and I hadn't logged into this system for a couple days prior to that (the box
was restarted on Sunday).  The commands I performed last night were:
 an apt-get update
 apt-get upgrade
 apt-get install prelink
 prelink -amR

I just went through y dpkg.log, and mysql was updated last night, so I'm
willing to bet the bug was somehow triggered by that process.

[Bug 105457] Re: mysqd_safe high cpu usage

How come this bugs importance is set to low? My virtual host is unusable
when this bug happens and sometimes even apache starts failing because
of the high load.
