[Bug 1382190] Re: LXCs assigned IPs by MAAS DHCP lack DNS PTR entries
I think #1 is too limited. This will only satisfy a subset of users, and it's confusing to an outsider trying to deploy their charms, why won't RabbitMQ deploy in cluster $x when it deploys fine in cluster $y?. The answer is not easily discoverable, and the MAAS administrator may not realise that the size of the cluster's network is relevant to the frustrated user unless he/she has fully understood the release notes. The lag in #3 may cause hard to diagnose problems. There are also a lot more moving parts to line up. I say go for #2. It may make a difference to performance. I assume we'll do this only for IPv4? If it's compiled to a rule, we /could/ do it for IPv6 too, but that may be a slope down which we don't want to slip. Ultimately we want to steer people towards reserving IP addresses via MAAS's API. Is this enough to satisfy RabbitMQ? Some services like to make sure that they can round-trip through DNS, i.e. that the PTR record resolves to a name that then resolves back to the starting address. We could choose the prefix to encourage people to reserve addresses. For example, dynamic-$, anon-$, temporary-$, or do-not-use-$, in order of severity. Observed again today. It results in 100s of lines of errors and stack-traces in Apache's error.log. Now, is a dhcp lease a permanent address? :) I think it's permanent enough for this scenario where MAAS is giving it out, as it even updates the DNS record. [Bug 1365130] [NEW] django-admin prints spurious messages to stdout, breaking scripts
Public bug reported: Scripts in MAAS's packaging rely on shell code like the following: APIKEY=$(maas-region-admin apikey --username admin) maas-region-admin is a shell script that execs django-admin. However, the new django-admin in Utopic prints lines like: Using: Python 2.7 to _stdout_ as part of its normal operation. This breaks programs that rely on capturing stdout. I would expect that a message of this nature should go to stderr at least. Better for us would be if it were omitted altogether, but there may be good reasons for it to stay. [Bug 1307614] Re: MAAS sometimes attempts to install to USB flash drive
Something we want to add to MAAS is the idea of recommissioning, i.e. when a node is released back to MAAS, it runs a cycle that does a bunch of things to get the machine ready to go out the door again. For example, reset BIOS settings, erase disks. Like commissioning, a MAAS admin would be able to configure their own scripts to run. With the existing commissioning stage and a new commissioning stage, we'd have an opportunity to run a site-specific find me the disk on which to put the OS script. This could set a pre-agreed disk label, e.g. OS or ROOT, that curtin could be modified to take notice of. More flexible than that is for curtin to grow the capability to run a site-specific fine me the disk script directly, but that would entail more work in MAAS to support it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to curtin in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1307614 Title: MAAS sometimes attempts to install to USB flash drive To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/maas/+bug/1307614/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1237615] [NEW] python-bson-ext does not encode binary in Apache with mod_wsgi
Public bug reported: In a component of MAAS we're using python-bson to dump out structures containing binary data. Everything works fine in development, but breaks in production under Apache. In Python 2.x (we're using 2.7) it's necessary to wrap str/bytes objects in bson.binary.Binary; the encoder then does an isinstance check and encodes these objects as binary data - or \x05 e_name binary, from the spec. However, under Apache our binary data is being encoded as string data - or \x02 e_name string, from the spec. When decoding this becomes a unicode object, which chokes the next part of the MAAS's processing. I think this is due to the C extension module. Apache and/or mod_wsgi does some weird things with Python contexts (I don't know much about this, just enough to know it can be a problem), and I suspect the PyObject_IsInstance(value, state-Binary) condition in bson/_cbsonmodule.c is failing because state-Binary is referencing a different Binary type than MAAS's code is. The following are the mod_wsgi directives we're using in Apache: {{{ WSGIDaemonProcess maas user=maas group=maas processes=2 threads=1 display-name=%{GROUP} # Without this, defining a tag as a malformed xpath expression will hang # the region controller. # See https://techknowhow.library.emory.edu/blogs/branker/2010/07/30/django-lxml-wsgi-and-python-sub-interpreter-magic WSGIApplicationGroup %{GLOBAL} WSGIScriptAlias /MAAS /usr/share/maas/wsgi.py # Preload application when process starts. [Bug 1103195] Re: MAAS WebUI crashes when installing maas-region-controller only
To ensure that we accept as master only the cluster controller on the local machine, can the region compare the UUID it's given against the UUID it can see on the filesystem? Even if the region is in an HA configuration, the cluster controller will connect to localhost and therefore the region app server reached will be the one on the same machine, and thus able to see the same UUID. Then we can probably get rid of the special cases for maas_url and whatnot. If this isn't suitable, then I suggest going with rvba's second proposal: - we fix the two problems I mention above ( a): only accept the first controller to connect if it's connecting from localhost, b) update nodegroup.maas_url for the first controller if the controller does not connect from localhost). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to maas in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1103195 Title: MAAS WebUI crashes when installing maas-region-controller only To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/maas/+bug/1103195/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1081701] Re: The metadata address mentioned in the preseed is wrong.
Raphaël and I discussed two options: 1. Render the preseed in the cluster. 2. Send the cluster address to the region during start-up so that it can render the preseed with the correct address. We decided that #1 better divides responsibilities, but that we would go for option #2 for two reasons: it's a lot less work, and it doesn't preclude doing #1 at a later date and may be useful to that effort.
