[Bug 1554195] [NEW] Nova (juno) ignores logging_*_format_string in syslog output

2016-03-07 Thread George Shuklin
Public bug reported:

Nova in juno ignores following settings in configuration file ([DEFAULT]
section):
logging_context_format_string
logging_default_format_string
logging_debug_format_suffix
logging_exception_prefix

when sending logs via syslog. Log entries on stderr / in log files are
fine (use logging_*_format).

Steps to reproduce:

1. set up custom logging stings and enable syslog:

[DEFAULT]
logging_default_format_string=MYSTYLE-DEFAULT-%(message)s
logging_context_format_string=MYSTYLE-CONTEXT-%(message)s
use_syslog=true

2. restart nova and perform some actions

3. Check the syslog content

Expected behaviour: MYSTYLE- prefix in all messages.
Actual behaviour: no changes in log message styles.

This bug is specific to Juno version of nova.

2015-02-11 Thread George Shuklin
My current idea is to stop using cached images at all for the rescue and
check if image exists before doing anything bad with instance.

In my current implementation attempt to rescue instance with deleted
image will not stop instance and log error:

[Bug 1418590] Re: No ERROR state if image deleted, _base is lost and instance is rescued

2015-02-11 Thread George Shuklin
Hello. We using qemu/kvm with raw disks. Normally, disk (qcow) will be
irreversibly damaged if someone removes _base, but for the raw disks all
stuff in _base is formality. We placing it on slow HDD raid0 (VS normal
raid with SSD for instance disks), so losing HDD with _base's is normal
case for us. In case of IO errors we're just replacing HDD, remounting
_base, restarting nova-compute and continue to work without any
problems. But 'rescue' has a problem (and I'm now in the process of
Jenkins fight for fix).

[Bug 1418590] Re: No ERROR state if image deleted, _base is lost and instance is rescued

2015-02-11 Thread George Shuklin
OK. I found some problems with my ideas: If instance have _base, it
still can be rescued even if image is deleted. I'll think about this on
second part.

For now I'll set instance in ERROR if rescue was failed. (Bugreport
says 'instance broken, but status is ACTIVE').

[Bug 1418590] Re: No ERROR state if image deleted, _base is lost and instance is rescued

2015-02-05 Thread George Shuklin
** Description changed:

  State to reproduce:
  1. Boot instance from image
  2. Delete image
  3. Stop nova-compute
  4. Remove /var/lib/nova/instances/_base/*
  5. start nova-compute
  6. Try to rescue instance (nova rescue image)

Nova-compute will fail with few traces (see below) and instance get
  strange state:

  nova show 290ab4b7-7225-4b74-853a-d342974a2080

+--+--+
  | Property | Value

After that it is impossible to unrescue instance (Cannot 'unrescue'
while instance is in vm_state active) or hard-reset (nothing happens).

  Only nova reset-state helps.

- Expected behavior: set it to ERROR state.
+ Expected behavior: set it to ERROR state or, better, to reject rescue if
+ no image found.

[Bug 342096] Re: SD Card containing /home corrupted on resume

2014-10-02 Thread George Ingram
This was still a problem in 13.10. It started ok, but then stared happening on
13.10. I'd done a fake-pae install on an X40 so can't comment on previous
versions. It was magically 'fixed' when I upgraded to 14.04. but it just
resurfaced :/

Suspend by shutting the lid or low power and when I resume, the system has lost
track of the original mount and asks me if I want to view in file manager, as
with removeable storage.

This is a 5 year old bug, a lot of people with old notebooks boost the
storage with SD cards, it would be very nice if we could rely on them.

Mine is now mounted on /home/username/sd.

I started using it a permanent storage after 14.04 upgrade 'fixed' the
problem.

I was able to fix this by ignoring exception in __exit__() function. But
still, proper solution should filter out routers from other network

[Bug 1286209] Re: unhandled trace if no namespaces in metering agent

2014-07-09 Thread George Shuklin
I still see than bug and definitively can reproduce it.

If router is placed on other network node, metering agent fail, because
it expecting to see network namespace for that router on own network
node.

There is no filtering 'our' router or 'not our'.

It will works on single-node installation, but fails on multi-node.

'broken source package' according to debian guys.

[Bug 1317587] Re: ClamAV 0.98.1 is Outdated

2014-06-28 Thread George Thomas
Same here.

Current version in 14.04 Trusty is 0.98.1, ClamAV recommends 0.98.3:

ClamAV update process started at Thu May 8 09:38:12 2014
WARNING: Your ClamAV installation is OUTDATED!
WARNING: Local version: 0.98.1 Recommended version: 0.98.3

June 28, 2014, ClamAV now suggests version 0.98.4

Ubuntu is an awesome project!
Many Thanks to All who do the work.
But,
Ubuntu by itself does not fill all of my needs.
So, I am left to install, other, software to make it my own.
I am afraid that I have found that I do indeed need a capable antivirus package
running in real time.

Any suggestions on how to upgrade Clam, or maybe another form of antivirus
suited to Trusty?
Thank You in advance
gthom...

[Bug 1286209] Re: unhandled trace if no namespaces in metering agent

2014-05-13 Thread George Shuklin
Hello.

1. I was slightly wrong, not 'agent', but router (and same thing for
dhcp-agent). The means if l3-agent got no routers on itself, trace
happens. neutron l3-agent-router-remove allow to remove routers from
host.

2. Nope, I think this is default behavior for metering agent, because
there is no namespaces at all (before l3-agent creates them for router).

[Bug 1249708] Re: Missing neutron-ovs-cleanup service

2014-01-24 Thread George Shuklin
It should start on every compute and network node. It clear up all
strange artefacts saved by ovs-vsctl.

How to get 'strange artifacts':
On any working compute/network node with active networking on instances perform
any operations on ovs-vsctl, f.e.:
ovs-vsctl add-br just_empty_bridge
ovs-vsctl del-br just_empty_bridge

ovs will save all current tap/tun qr-* interfaces in br-int/br-ext
bridges and restore them on next boot inside own config, even if they
are not available at server start.

This will cause problems for existing instances during their startup.

neutron-ovs-cleanup should run during startup on all non-diskless nodes
to ensure nothing strange is exists in bridges prior fists
instance/agent start.

[Bug 498734] Re: nmbd stops randomly - cannot access using hostname from Windows XP

2013-02-06 Thread George Gill
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: samba

I found a number of reports about nmbd not starting.
For me nmbd does start, but stops randomly, so while this is a different bug,
it must be somehow related.

  But, first things first.
I am new to Linux. I followed various tutorial on the net to install a NAS
using Ubuntu Server. I installed it, was working for a while, then it stopped
working, I reinstalled it, and this cycle was going on and on and on like 10
times.
Then, I decided to call in a favour from a friend who has experience.
I installed Ubuntu Server 9.10 again (amd64), updated the system using
apt-get (that was yesterday, 19-Dec-2009), configured Samba again the way I
used to, and I called my friend to take a look. He used ssh to access the
machine, and do his magic. He fine-tuned Samba with the users and permissions I
wanted, then he said we should also reboot the system to make sure that
everything mounts and loads as it should - so, we rebooted the the system.
After reboot, I could access my Samba share just fine. So, we opened a drink to
celebrate. About five minutes later, I went back to the machine to map the
drives, but I could not access the Samba share using the netbios name from
Windows XP - I could access it using the IP address though.
- We had no idea what was going on and we've been Google-ing around for hours,
trying various configuration changes in network setting as recommended by
various messages claiming that it solved their problem. Well, none of those
network tweaks have helped us, so I gave up. My friend was pissed because it
was supposed to work so he kept checking things I know nothing about. Then he
said: f**k, nmbd is not running! He restarted Samba (and with it nmbd) and
everything was working again. After a while, it stopped again. He tried
restarting Samba again, but this time it did not work. He said we should start
from boot and he will watch it and see when it stops and why. So, we reboot and
he keeps his eyes open. He said there are some read errors in
/var/log/samba/log.nmbd for the socket. The is what he sent me:

I Googled about this and I ended up here, sounds like it to me (who don't
know much about Linux):

My friend ended up on this forum, here:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/462169
Though that error talks about nmbd not starting. For us, nmbd does start (he
found traces and I can also access the Samna share using the netbios host
name), but it stops at some point which we could not track down.
  Thank you for fixing.

[Bug 919068] Re: bridge_ports all doesn't work at boot time

2012-04-13 Thread George F
No, that's not at all clear. This bug report was originally filed against
1.5-2ubuntu1, and the submitter reports there is no
difference in behavior between the two versions. You should probably file a
separate bug report for your issue.

Well, i can't explain it but after i installed bridge-utils 1.5-2ubuntu1
and rebooted it worked fine for a while. The next day I turned the
computer back on and i could not get it to work again. SO, there is
still something else going on with it. I was so hoping it was fixed as
well without it I can't even more forward with installing and setting up
Xen.

So far this has been a major hurdle and really annoying to say the
least.

Manually downloading packages from the web and installing them is strongly
 contraindicated. You are completely bypassing
the established security mechanisms of signed packages and opening yourself
up to a man-in-the-middle attack. The
appropriate way to do this is by running:
  sudo apt-get install bridge-utils/oneiric
to pull the version of the package from oneiric instead of from
oneiric-updates.

YA, i know it is not advised to install anything manual, BUT this is a
testing server setup SO i really don't care about any security or
anything. I just want bridge-utils to work SO i don't have to continue
to waste hours trying to find a way to make it work :). If i happen
to find a solution THAN, YA of course i would go back to do things the
proper way, but for now, it is just simply frustrating that you can't
continue cause of some bug.

In Debian there is NO such issue at all, and it and UBUNTU are so very
similar that well never figured one gets stopped in your tracks so
easily with Ubuntu

Just out of shear trying something, i also installed bridge-utils
1.5-2ubuntu6, BUT still can't get it to work.

[Bug 919068] Re: bridge_ports all doesn't work at boot time

2012-04-12 Thread George F
Not sure if this is the perfect solution, but I had the exact same
problem. But I got my bridged network to work as follows:

Before hand I did:
- Installed a fresh copy of Ubuntu 11.10
- Installed the latest version of bridge-utils (1.5-2ubuntu1.1)
- modified /etc/network/interfaces with bridged network settings
- Rebooted but could not get a network connection.

Than I just
- Removed bridge-utils 1.5-2ubuntu1.1
- reset /etc/network/interfaces back to its default
- Manually installed bridge-utils 1.5-2ubuntu1 from the website
UbuntuUpdates.org
- recreated the bridge network settings in /etc/network/interfaces
- Rebooted and this time it worked perfectly and I could go on the net.

So long story short bridge-utils 1.5-2ubuntu1.1 has a bug that bridge-
utils 1.5-2ubuntu1 does not, BUT I am sure everyone knows that
already :)

[Bug 345330] [NEW] smbfs, samba samba-common are uninstallable

2009-03-19 Thread George Bromell
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: smbfs

My first time reporting a bug so forgive me if this is th ewrong format, forum
or insufficient details. After a fresh install of ubuntu 8.10 gnome desktop
x86_64 edition I attempted to install smbfs and received the following error;
$ sudo apt-get install smbfs
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  smbfs: Depends: samba-common (= 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3) but 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3.4 is
to be installed
E: Broken packages

Attempting to install samba-common results in the following error;
$ sudo apt-get install samba-common
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
samba-common is already the newest version.
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
  linux-headers-2.6.27-7 linux-headers-2.6.27-7-generic
Use 'apt-get autoremove' to remove them.

[Bug 345330] Re: smbfs, samba samba-common are uninstallable

2009-03-19 Thread George Bromell
Thanks for replying to this bug Thierry. I did also try installing these
packages using Synaptic, after refreshing the package info, but received
the same error message. I have now successfully installed samba by using
aptitude, which issues the same error but offers to resolve this by down
grading the already installed samba-common package to 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3.
While I now have a working samba server I believe that there is a
problem with the dependency specification for these packages i.e. the
install should be allowed to proceed if the user has a later version of
the required package.

Is there any chance that this will be backported to the Hardy LTS?
