[Bug 1482893] [NEW] common loader in catalina.properties is wrong

2015-08-08 Thread H.-Dirk Schmitt
Public bug reported:

Please fix the following line in catalina.properties in all tomcat
source packages.

WRONG:
common.loader=${catalina.base}/lib,${catalina.base}/lib/*.jar,${catalina.home}/lib,${catalina.home}/lib/*.jar,${catalina.home}/common/classes,${catalina.home}/common/*.jar

CORRECT:
common.loader=${catalina.base}/common/classes,${catalina.base}/common/*.jar,${catalina.home}/lib,${catalina.home}/lib/*.jar

Following problems with the wrong statement:
1. Odering is wrong: catalina.base should overrule catalina.home here (see
class loader howto below).
2. catalina.home is expanded normally to /usr/share/tomcat7, but there is no
common directory - it is below
/var/lib/tomcat7 (as expanded by catalina.base).
3. ${catalina.base}/lib,${catalina.base}/lib/*.jar are pointing to non existing
directories. I recommend to skip this part.

For reference see
https://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-7.0-doc/class-loader-howto.html
 The locations searched by this class loader are defined by the common.loader
 property in
 $CATALINA_BASE/conf/catalina.properties.
 The default setting will search the following locations in the order they are
 listed:

unpacked classes and resources in $CATALINA_BASE/lib
JAR files in $CATALINA_BASE/lib
unpacked classes and resources in $CATALINA_HOME/lib
JAR files in $CATALINA_HOME/lib

[Bug 1175049] [NEW] squid3 - current 3.1.x is strongly deprecated

2013-05-01 Thread H.-Dirk Schmitt
Public bug reported:

Current Ubuntu Versions are:

* squid3 (3.1.19-1ubuntu3.12.04.2) precise-security; urgency=low
* squid3 (3.1.20-1ubuntu3) raring-proposed; urgency=low

The upstream versions are:
* 3.3
* 3.2 [deprecated, see announcement mails]
* 3.1 [old, [see http://www.squid-cache.org/Versions/]

I suggest to make the squid 3.3 available in precise-backports and
saucy.

[Bug 1073159] Re: Please backport tomcat7 7.0.34 (main) from raring to precise (and quantal)

2012-12-20 Thread H.-Dirk Schmitt
A backport is again available in

It works - but the APR has been changed:

 An incompatible version 1.1.22 of the APR based Apache Tomcat Native
library is installed, while Tomcat requires version 1.1.24

So in addition also tomcat-native should be backported

** Summary changed:

- Please backport tomcat7 7.0.34 (main) from raring to precise (and quantal)
+ Please backport tomcat7 7.0.34 (main) from raring to precise (and quantal)
[and tomcat-native]

** Description changed:

  Please backport tomcat7 7.0.30-0ubuntu1 (main) from raring to precise.

  Reason for the backport:

- Currently tomcat7 on precise is 7.0.26
- quantal an roaring providing 7.0.30
+ Currently tomcat7 on precise is 7.0.26 (see linked CVE)
+ quantal is providing 7.0.30 (see some of the linked CVE)
+ raring   is providing 7.0.34

  In my opinion it would be good to have the most current tomcat7 version also

2012-12-20 Thread H.-Dirk Schmitt

following error message:

[Bug 16669] Re: Squid: Compile with --enable-ssl

2012-12-12 Thread H.-Dirk Schmitt
A ssl enabled squid would help many users, which are concerned about the
lack of anonymity in the web.

With request_header_replace where are a lot of guides to fix some information
leaks for your users.
But all effort is failing if https is used.
To test this, have a look on https://panopticlick.eff.org/
You see that the origin User-Agent and not the rewritten User-Agent is reported.

Another point is that more and more sites are migration to https. This will
reduce the traffic reduction of squid because the lack of https caching.

[Bug 1068405] [NEW] catalina.properties use hard references to /var/lib/tomcat7/

2012-10-18 Thread H.-Dirk Schmitt
Public bug reported:

The file /usr/share/tomcat7/skel/conf/catalina.properties (and also
/etc/tomcat7/catalina.properties) has hard references to
/var/lib/tomcat7/.

If /var/lib/tomcat7/{common,server,shared} contains a jar for one
tomcat7 instance, this leaks to all other installations.

To avoid this problem the property reference ${catalina.base} should be used.
A second tomcat instance can now set $CATALINA_BASE to something else (as
/var/lib/tomcat7).

[Bug 569757] Re: NIS upstart dependency broken for lucid

2011-09-05 Thread H.-Dirk Schmitt
For the installation error try to remove /var/lib/dpkg/info/nis.postinst
to avoid the error condition.

[Bug 678134] [NEW] ssh/scp to localhost/127.0.0.1 should not update known_hosts

2010-11-21 Thread H.-Dirk Schmitt
Public bug reported:

If ssh/scp is used on computers with a shared home directory the
localhost key noted in ~/.ssh/known_hosts is ambiguous.

If the user fist ssh to localhost on host A and afterwards do the same
on host B he is getting an error message.

On the other side the host key for localhost is only a valuable
security enhancement if localhost isn't bound to an uncommon ip number.
(But this should cause a lot of troubles that hits a user before.)

[Bug 678134] Re: ssh/scp to localhost/127.0.0.1 should not update known_hosts

2010-11-21 Thread H.-Dirk Schmitt
$ man ssh_config
[...]
NoHostAuthenticationForLocalhost
   This option can be used if the home directory is shared across
   machines. In this case localhost will refer to a different
   machine on each of the machines and the user will get many warn-
   ings about changed host keys. However, this option disables
host
   authentication for localhost. The argument to this keyword must
   be ``yes'' or ``no''. The default is to check the host key for
   localhost.

[Bug 569533] Re: dovecot doesn't support configuration setting ssl_disable

2010-04-25 Thread H.-Dirk Schmitt
Sorry.
The dovecot.conf.dpkg-new was from 2008.
I have no idea why it wasn't replaced in the lucid upgrade (by apt-get
dist-upgrade).

[Bug 569533] [NEW] dovecot doesn't support configuration setting ssl_disable

2010-04-24 Thread H.-Dirk Schmitt
Public bug reported:

In karmic the configuration setting 'ssl_disable' was valid.
After upgrade to lucid I'm getting this error:

Error: Error in configuration file /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf line 88: Unknown
setting: ssl_disable
Fatal: Invalid configuration in /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf

The setting is still in the example dovecot.conf.dpkg-new:

# Disable SSL/TLS support.
#ssl_disable = no

I suggest to remove this invalid lines from the configuration example.
