[Bug 1054129] Re: reboot with -vga cirrus can result in broken output

2012-09-28 Thread Leann Ogasawara
It might be worth re-testing with the 3.5.0-16.24 kernel once it lands
in the quantal release pocket, it's currently sitting in quantal-
proposed. It disables the cirrus driver as it was causing issues on
other systems as well. See the following for more information. Thanks.

[Bug 959352] Re: Ephemeral containers have /rootfs prefix in /proc/self/maps entries

2012-07-05 Thread Leann Ogasawara
It would be helpful if anyone could confirm if this issue remains with
the latest Quantal 3.5.0-3.3 kernel. We do have the Quantal kernel
available for testing in Precise via the q-lts-backport PPA:

https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/q-lts-backport

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/q-lts-backport
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install linux-image-generic-lts-quantal
linux-headers-generic-lts-quantal

[Blueprint servercloud-p-ceph] Preparing CEPH for main inclusion

+ [sconklin] ext4/btrfs/xfs testing in QA: POSTPONED

  Notes:
qemu-kvm librados builds are blocked on bug 932898 being fix released.

No formal spec needed IMO, this is just a pile of straight forward
  actions.

   * gceph is not reasonable to be in main (upstream doesnt want to
  support)

Today rbd is loaded loaded at runtime

   - MIR librbd and librados for qemu/kvm
    - compile qemu-kvm with ceph (rbd, rados) block device support, see:
   - MIR all of ceph for hosting ceph
   - include latest libvirt rbd support (for rbd authentication)
   - Existing Openstack Support
     - Nova since cactus can use CEPH for block
     - Diablo added glance support for CEPH for image storage
   - Dreamhost using mainline BTRFS and debian kernel for current deployment
  - Dreamhost launching at scale in a few weeks
  - CEPH is an independent business unit under Dreamhost
  - Dreamhost using fastcgi + apache for rados gateway (can use nginx, too)

   Dependencies:
   modfast-cgi
  Concerns;
  - Upstream makes a release every 2 weeks
  - No stable release branches upstream
  - Limited deployment outside Dreamhost
  - unencrypted over the wire
    - apps can implement security on top of it
    - IPv6 is supported
  Additional Opportunities:
  - Integrate tightly with OpenStack in packaging
  - Add support for ceph in juju openstack charms
  - BTRFS ideal, XFS also working well, ext4 missing large xattr support
  - Upstream asserts that CEPH is under heavy development (cmdline programs
remind user at every execution)
   - in the openstack use case, for kvm, there is no need for kernel code at all
    - if we want to support xen, it would require using the block device kernel
code for rdb
  Support Targets:
  - RBD

[Bug 588861] Re: pad block corrupted error when trying to register an image with 2.6.34 kernel

2010-06-28 Thread Leann Ogasawara
Ok, so we've committed the fix to our git repo and will upload the
kernel to the archive late Wed. I suggest the release note recommend
using the kernel provided in the PPA and then update to the 2.6.35-6.9
kernel once it's available.

From #ubuntu-release on FreeNode:
[14:37:47] ogasawara cjwatson, ttx: in the release team meeting last friday
we agreed, if on Wednesday bug 588861 is not fixed in kernel, then can
ogasawara prepare the PPA and then ttx can release note the PPA, otherwise ttx
to release note to dist-upgrade
[14:38:09] ogasawara cjwatson, ttx: we've already uploaded a kernel which
contains the fix to our PPA
[14:38:51] ogasawara cjwatson, ttx: do you want me to wait to upload the
official kernel to the archive until immediately after Alpha2 is released?
[14:39:34] ogasawara cjwatson, ttx: or would you prefer I upload the kernel
sooner (ie now) so it's immediately available for people to dist-upgrade?
[14:41:55] ScottK ogasawara: It might be nice to wait until the buildds
aren't quite so clogged if it's not going to be accepted until after Alpha 2.
[14:43:38] ogasawara ScottK: makes sense
[14:44:58] cjwatson I think late Wednesday would be OK
[14:57:20] ogasawara cjwatson: ack
