I want you to save download and unpack six term.log.?.gz files so I
typed

cd /var/log/apt
sudo zcat $(ls -tr *.gz)~/term.log

and apended the result.

I made similar observations. My system is Intel 32 bit.

I decided to upgrade from 8.04 to 9.04 . For this I ran first the
upgrade to 8.10 and than the upgrade to 9.04. I didn't have a look at
the 8.10 system because I was keen on the 9.04 system so I started the
upgrade to 9.04 just after the reboot after upgrade to 8.10.

Than I discovered that slapd wasn't installed in my 9.04 althoug it was
in my 8.04 where it worked properly.

Than I tried to install slapd with synaptic and the error occured.
