[Bug 1562658] [NEW] screen caught signal 11 core dumped

2016-03-27 Thread Fake Name
Public bug reported:

This is a duplicate of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/screen/+bug/1333630

However, 1333630 is incorrectly marked as fix released, and after a year
of occationally attempting to get someone to notice that 1333630 is not
fixed, I'm giving up and opening a new bug in hope of someone actually
noticing.

Basically, the version of screen in the 14.04 "long term support"
release can occasionally segfault, taking all contained shell sessions
down with it. This is extremely annoying if you use screen extensively,
and having to compile screen from source on every ubuntu install I use
is ridiculous.

The underlying issue was a bug in GNU screen:
https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/index.php?35757

This was fixed fully one year ago. However, the version of screen that's
distributed as part of ubuntu is apparently **10** years old (Screen
version 4.01.00devel (GNU) 2-May-06).

Since 14.04 is ostensibly still supported, can someone please actually
support it, and upgrade the version of screen to something from the last
year?

There is screen 4.2.1 in trusty/backports, but 1) this bug was not fixed
until 4.3.0, and 2) this is a core shell util, I shouldn't have to go
hunting for a additional repository to get a functional version of the
GNU tools that's usually installed by default.

[Bug 1556508] Re: Shared Folders are not working, Wily

2016-03-19 Thread a name
10.0.5-3227872 seems to be the open-vm-tools version with vmhgfs driver
starting to be compatible with kernel 4.2
which is used in Wily. Is this the signal as for Wily there is no chance for
Shared Folders to be working until 10.0.5-3227872 package is available?

[Bug 1500581] Re: open-vm-tools-dkms fails to build on kernel 4.2 (Wily Werewolf) [error: implicit declaration of function ‘nd_set_link’]

2016-03-12 Thread a name
Hi Stanislaw, Thanks for information from you.
One point however is not clear for me. All that on github seems to be VmWare's
own open-vm-tools repo.
The guys there claim (see Readme.md file, last update 7 months ago)
open-vm-tools would not include
Linux drivers as those were available as part of Linux kernel itself. According
to same file Linux kernels since
3.10 would include all Linux drivers except for (vm)hgfs, so the impression
arises VmWare open-vm-tools project
does not target Linux drivers, inclusively hgfs. They leave this task the
distribution vendors or mainline kernels - so far
my understanding. How does it comply with your last statement here?
Or you mean other github open-vm-tools project, not the VmWare's one. Which one
then?

open-vm-tools promises less maintenance efforts on kernel updates.
VmWare makes the recommendations - within VmWare Tools installation script and
several other sources - to replace bundled VmWare Tools with open-vm-tools
provided by package management of used disro. This reco I can understand very
well.
Shared folders do not work in following setup: Ubuntu 15.10 64Bits Desktop +
open_vm_tools offered by Wily's package management system, status: two days ago.

How the hell is this in ANY way LONG TERM **SUPPORT**? A very broadly
used component of the OS CRASHES AND KILLS ALL CONTAINED PROCESS

[Bug 1333630] Re: screen caught signal 11 core dumped

2015-03-29 Thread Fake Name
So. it's not getting fixed?

I use LTS releases be cause I assumed they were actually supported
(that's what the S in LTS means, or so I thought). Why on earth would
this not be released for all the currently supported variants.

Admittedly, it's rather hard to trigger, but it's a complete dealbreaker
when if it is triggered, particularly if you have long-running tasks in
a screen session (which is what I use it for). It occasionally triggers
on exiting htop, and basically ruins my entire day.

[Bug 1333630] Re: screen caught signal 11 core dumped

2015-03-28 Thread Fake Name
Ok, got screen to compile from source I checked out from git, and it
appears the issue is indeed fixed in 4.2.1-3.

This really, /really/ shouldn't even be in backports, this really needs
to be just a straight-out normal release for all platforms.

Having screen occationally shit the bed and take your entire session
with it is just unacceptable. 4.2.1-3 needs to be released as a normal
patch for all the LTS platforms.

[Bug 1333630] Re: screen caught signal 11 core dumped

2015-03-28 Thread Fake Name
I should add, following this recipe here: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=681572 still reproduces the issue exactly.

Here is a copy of the repro:

- enable the alternate screen: ^A :altscreen on
- be sure to have at least two windows opened, then split with ^A S
- open Vim
- make the current region bigger with ^A :resize 83% (same with +number or
while decreasing the other size) or remove it entirely with ^A X
- close Vim and screen crashes with [screen caught signal 11. (core dumped)]

The screen package I have is screen (4.2.1-2~ubuntu14.04.1), this is
on ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS.

I spent a little while trying to compile screen from source, but didn't
get anywhere.

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=681572 seems to
indicate that this is actually fixed in 4.2.1-*3*, which is /not/ in the
backports.

Is there any way to get the actually fixed version backported?
