Sorry about that! The conflict arises due to a redefinition of

may arise in the future, so I note the details for posterity.

causing problems, could you see if the current r1220 resolves the
problem for them (it does not address nodes).

Re: [Bug 566793] Re: euca-get-console-output does not give all console output

2010-04-19 Thread chris grzegorczyk
@Scott: The command is supposed to return the last 64K of console
output. Your results are expected in that case. See the first note
from:
http://docs.amazonwebservices.com/AWSEC2/latest/DeveloperGuide/index.html?instance-console.html

As for the time, it should be timing out after 20 seconds -- are you
not seeing that behaviour?

On Mon, Apr 19, 2010 at 10:06 AM, Scott Moser smo...@canonical.com wrote:

 Bug description:
 euca-get-console-output does not provide all of a console's output.

 To reproduce this behavior, run an instance that executes user-data as a
 script (ie, the uec-images), like this:

 $ cat user-data-loop.sh
 #!/bin/bash

 max=5000;
 sleep_often=50
 sleep=.2
 for((i=0;i${max};i++)); do
        echo hello, number ${i}
        [ $((${i}%${sleep_often})) -eq 0 ]  sleep ${sleep}
 done
 $ euca-run-instances --user-data-file=user-data-loop.sh --key mykey \
   --instance-type=m1.small emi-abcdefgh
 # wait
 $ time euca-get-console-output i-4537075F | tail -n 5
 hello, number 2454
 hello, number 2455
 hello, number 2456
 hello, number 2457
 hello, number 2458

 real    5m9.557s
 user    0m0.130s
 sys     0m0.050s

 If I ssh to the node controller, and look at
 /var/lib/eucalyptus/instances/admin/i-4537075F/console.log I see that the
 count went all the way to 4999.

 Note, I've waited minutes after the VM wrote the data before getting console
 output, it doesn't seem like just a (resonable) caching issue.

 Also note, that the get-console-output takes an extremely long amount of time
 (minutes).

So the problem here is that Owner and RestorableBy were misnamed

needed to euca2ools or boto.

[Bug 538546] Re: please move /etc/eucalyptus/cloud.d/scripts to /usr/lib/eucalyptus/cloud.d/scripts

2010-03-13 Thread chris grzegorczyk
 First, scripts really shouldn't be installed in /etc. /etc should
really only contain configuration information that an Administrator or
distro might need to edit.

This is exactly what they are -- configuration scripts. In each case
they are scripts only because there may be a need for the administrator
to edit them. The directory name is misleading it seems, it should be
'config'. They are similar to /etc/default and /etc/{init.d,rc.d} in
their use.

The Import scripts are indeed different and can be moved to where ever
FHS demands. Nonetheless, that is not going to solve the problem as the
import scripts depend on the configuration information that is in the
others. Specifically, bootstrapping the database to do the update needs
to configure it correctly, so, it depends on the configuration
information.

It sounds like the hack you have works around the problem in dpkg, for
now. Do you have any other suggestions?

cheers.

[Bug 520269] Re: support root-based web service URL's

2010-02-11 Thread chris grzegorczyk
@6: Eucalyptus also handles Query and REST requests along with some less
well-defined HTTP requests (e.g., form POST uploads). The decision on
which path the web services stack takes when parsing a request is made
solely based on the contents of the HTTP start-line and headers. This
is primarily because consuming the message body is not feasible in some
cases. In the absence of a service path or Host header/DNS info there
is not enough information to determine the destination of a request. For
these reasons using SOAP namespaces is not a sufficient approach.

With respect to the Host header, from the HTTP/1.1 RFC: A client MUST
include a Host header field in all HTTP/1.1 request messages. Thus,
requiring use of DNS in order to provide virtual hosting seems
reasonable and sufficient. A more thorough discussion of related topics
can be found in the apache vhost documentation (n.b. some of the
limitations do not apply to Eucalyptus):
http://httpd.apache.org/docs/1.3/vhosts/

cheers.
chris

[Bug 520269] Re: support root-based web service URL's

2010-02-10 Thread chris grzegorczyk
I think you are refering to the Host header in HTTP as a way of co-
locating multiple services. In the context of the current Eucalyptus
system this isn't possible to support without the use of the DNS
service. For example, virtual bucket hosting in S3 already works this
way when DNS is enabled and configured correctly (e.g.,
http://bucket_name.eucalyptus_domain_name/). Adding support for this is
likely when/if DNS-enabled becomes the standard installation mode.

cheers,
chris

Just to clarify, I am not objecting to fixing the issue in Eucalyptus.
 Rather, the information provided in this bug report is not enough for
me to fix it (and I would need someone to provide that information for
me as I don't have an EC2 account). The HTTP response itself would be
good enough.

thanks.

Actually, this is not part of any of the EC2 specifications.

If there is a need to change the behaviour of Eucalyptus to remedy
this problem I will need more information about what differs between
the two. That is, the provided output indicates there is a
difference, but neither is the actual output and so I can't tell what
needs to be changed.

2010-01-12 Thread chris grzegorczyk
#12:

ancestor-ami-ids are also in ec2 if the image has ancestors.
instance-action is not supported by Eucalyptus at this time (so it is absent).

#11:
The difference between the two outputs posted seems to be a parser issue which
is converting the public-key string into a list. Note the second empty string
entry in the example EC2 output.

[Bug 461156] Re: User data is not parsed correctly by Eucalyptus in some cases

2009-11-17 Thread chris grzegorczyk
@Thierry
- #21 the change of + is only for the purposes of computing the hmac, not
processing the message contents.
- #23 the bug referenced is not related to this issue.

There look to be (at least) two issues here:
1) double base64'd data
2) authentication failure w/ certain user data strings

#1 was fixed in the euca2ools, afaict. #2 no longer manifests with any
of the examples listed in this thread.

Is there still a pending issue here and, if so, is there a test case?

cheers.
chris

[Bug 480783] Re: Eucalyptus does not allow api connection over https

2009-11-16 Thread chris grzegorczyk
Support for SSL is already in the code as of 1.6.1. The blocker to
including it in the original release was client support (as Neil
mentioned). This is on the agenda and will be addressed shortly.

 Status in Eucalyptus: Invalid
 Status in “eucalyptus” package in Ubuntu: Invalid

 Bug description:
 Eucalyptus produces very noisy cloud-error.log and cloud-debug.log.
 LOGLEVEL doesn't affect their verbosity.
 There seem to be no easy way of disabling those logs. They are hardcoded in
 clc/modules/core/src/main/resources/log4j.xml which is shipped inside
 eucalyptus JARs ?

[Bug 463449] Re: No possibility to decrease cloud-debug / cloud-error log verbosity (or disable them)

2009-11-13 Thread chris grzegorczyk
Actually, a user can supply their own logging configuration by putting a
log4j.xml configuration in /etc/eucalyptus/cloud.d/

Note that this will override all logging configuration.

thanks
