[Bug 1101187] Re: in case ow two networks on the same bridge nova overwrites dnsmasq config

2016-04-01 Thread Tom Fifield
Hi,

nova-network was designed for relatively simple networking use cases, so
it struggles to support things like this. However, for what you're
trying to achieve the neutron project should work very well! Check out
the networking guide at : http://docs.openstack.org/networking-guide/
and see about moving to neutron for this.

Given that this bug is a few years old now, I think it's time to close
it with our apologies.

[Bug 1551299] Re: Unable to run LXC commands on xenial guest in trusty host with --share-net 1

2016-03-02 Thread Tom Haddon
Shouldn't be using "--share-net 1". Need to "lxc-start -n $container-
name -d" and then "lxc-attach -n $container-name -- cmd". Needed lxc
from trusty-backports too.

[Bug 1551299] [NEW] Unable to run LXC commands on xenial guest in trusty host with --share-net 1

2016-02-29 Thread Tom Haddon
Public bug reported:

I've created a xenial LXC on a trusty host as follows:

http://paste.ubuntu.com/15244552/

I'm able to run commands inside the LXC without "--share-net 1" but any
time I try with "--share-net 1" it fails, such as:

http://paste.ubuntu.com/15243604/ (strace output).

Will attach apport report.

Thanks, that seems to work. I guess it was just an expectation issue -
didn't realise I'd have to fix things up manually to get unprivileged
containers to work.

[Bug 1384503] Re: rsync fails on large files with compression

2016-01-12 Thread Tom Worley
Hi Andrew,
Installing that version (rsync_3.1.1-3 from the Vivid repo in this case - no
dependency problems) on the machine initiating (which is also the target) the
rsync didn't fix it.

However, installing it on the source machine as well seems to have fixed the
problem.
Regards,
Tom

[Bug 1523656] Re: Missing my-default.cnf Failing mysql_install_db

2016-01-05 Thread Tom importepeu
Hi,

We're using mysql-server 5.6 on Ubuntu Server 14.04.01. The package version is
5.6.27-0ubuntu0.14.04.1. I saw that this bug was fixed in release 5.6.23 but
this bug also appears with 5.6.27 :
--
$ mysql_install_db --datadir=/home/mysql/data --basedir=/usr --keep-my-cnf
FATAL ERROR: Could not find my-default.cnf

If you compiled from source, you need to run 'make install' to
copy the software into the correct location ready for operation.

If you are using a binary release, you must either be at the top
level of the extracted archive, or pass the --basedir option
pointing to that location.
--
Indeed a my-defaut.cnf file exists in the package at
/usr/share/doc/mysql-server-5.6/examples/my-default.cnf which is not parsed by
the find_in_basedir function of mysql_install_db perl script :
my $cfg_template= find_in_basedir($opt,"file","my-default.$cnfext",
  ".", "share","share/mysql","support-files");

This file is supposed to exist in /usr/share/mysql which is not in
mysql-server-5.6 package release 5.6.27-0ubuntu0.14.04.1
Regards,
Tom.

[Bug 1457957] [NEW] puppet uses upstart for service status checks in vivid

2015-05-22 Thread Tom Hendrikx
Public bug reported:

After upgrading one of my servers to 15.04/vivid (from original
14.10/utopic install), I had a failing puppet job. The error message is:

Error: /Stage[main]/Main/Service[ssh]: Could not evaluate: Execution of
'/sbin/status ssh' returned 1: status: Unable to connect to Upstart:
Failed to connect to socket /com/ubuntu/upstart: Connection refused

After some research it seems that this happens with all daemons that
have an upstart config file hanging around in '/etc/init/'. Puppet
checks for existence of that file, and then assumes that it should issue
the '/sbin/status ' command in order to check the service
status. For all services that don't have an upstart conf installed,
puppet uses '/etc/init.d/ status', which works perfectly (for
ssh and munin-node, the two services I used while verifying the
behavior).

As I assume that we cannot expect to have all services drop the upstart
config in their vivid packages (I'm not sure about the status of upstart
support in vivid), the best fix should be to have puppet check for
'/etc/init.d/' before trying '/etc/init//.conf', at
least on vivid.

puppet-common version: 3.7.2-1ubuntu2

Note: even setting service 'hasstatus => no' and 'status =>
/etc/init.d/ssh status' in the puppet Service definition does not force
puppet to not issue the command (which probably should be a separate
bug).

[Bug 1400960] Re: Problems with a snappy tour

I suspect the problem is SIGWINCH. I can reproduce this problem if I

However once things fail they seem to continue to fail no matter what.

[Bug 1400960] [NEW] Problems with a snappy tour

2014-12-09 Thread Tom Vaughan
Public bug reported:

[This was also sent to snappy-de...@lists.ubuntu.com.]

Hi,

I followed the steps in the "Launch Snappy locally with KVM on Linux"
section on http://www.ubuntu.com/cloud/tools/snappy. Then I ran the
steps in the "A snappy tour of Ubuntu Core!" section on
http://www.ubuntu.com/cloud/tools/snappy. Sorry, I don't see a way to
link directly to these sections. I ran into a few problems. Please see
below.

kvm is running just fine, no errors.

This is on a 64-bit version of 14.10. I am running with LUKS encrypted
root partition and an ecryptfs encrypted home directory, if that's
relevant.

Thanks.

[Bug 1384555] Re: SQL error during alembic.migration when populating Neutron database on MariaDB 10.0

2014-10-24 Thread Tom Verdaat
Due to this bug Neutron will only work with version <= 5.5 of
mysql/mariadb, e.g. older versions. Downgrading to 5.5 isn't a solution,
it's a workaround! It also means there is no database upgrade path for
OpenStack, and this version limitation isn't mentioned anywhere in the
documentation.

I'd say that's a pretty big deal that somebody should look at! If not a
Neutron core developer, then somebody that works on SQLAlchemy. If
nobody is willing to address the actual technical issue then at least
the version limitation should be added to the documentation.

Can't force you to work on this, just saying that I think ignoring this
would be a mistake.

2014-10-24 Thread Tom Verdaat
So this is indeed a bug, but the real problem is not so much the neutron
database model itself but SQLAlchemy/Alembic generating SQL that doesn't
work on MariaDB 10.0. Has MariaDB 10.0 broken SQL syntax?

Hi all,

I was hitted by the same problem on the same Ubuntu version 12.04

However I found a better upstream bug to explain it:

https://issues.apache.org/SpamAssassin/show_bug.cgi?id=6745

so it seems that the problem has been fixed on version 3.4 but
Ubuntu 12.04 is running spamassassin 3.3..

[Bug 1347147] Re: krb5 database operations enter infinite loop

2014-07-31 Thread Tom Yu
Edited description to include text from Sam that was omitted when we
crossed edits.

** Description changed:

  [Impact]

On krb5 KDC databases with more than a few hundred principals,
operations can enter an infinite loop in the database library. This
affects both read and write operations. If operators are fortunate,
they will encounter this bug while testing a migration. If they are not
so fortunate, they will encounter this bug in a production KDC when the
number of principals crosses the threshold where this bug manifests,
resulting in a service outage and possible database corruption.
Probably the only way to restore service in that situation is to install
a patched KDC or to downgrade to an unaffected version.

Both Trusty and Utopic amd64 have been verified to have this issue.

One concrete reported example is an invocation of kdb5_util load (as
part of a slave KDC propagation) spinning:

  http://mailman.mit.edu/pipermail/kerberos/2014-July/020007.html

- The proposed fix at
https://launchpad.net/~hartmans/+archive/ubuntu/ubuntu-fixes
- works around a compiler optimizer bug in the gcc-4.8 series, which
incorrectly deduces that a strict aliasing violation has occurred and
miscompiles part of the bundled libdb2 library that the KDC database back end
depends upon. The miscompilation causes a data structure to contain an
inappropriate cycle, which leads to an infinite loop when the structure is
traversed.
+ A branch is linked including the upstream work around for this bug,
+ along with two other patches to bugs already nominated for trusty
+ applied to the krb5 in trusty.
+
+ For utopic, the simplest fix is to rebuild krb5 with the compiler
+ currently in utopic. An alternative is to request that the Debian
+ maintainers (both monitoring this bug for such a request) upload the
+ upstream work around to Debian and sync that. You could do an ubuntu-

  krb5kdc -r T destroy

but the latter can possibly enter the same infinite loop.

  [Regression Potential]

  Negligible.

It is theoretically possible that our upstream workaround, which
involves using TAILQ macros instead of CIRCLEQ macros in the bundled
libdb2 that backs the KDC database, will have some as-yet undiscovered
bugs or compiler interactions with consequences worse than this current
issue. I think this is rather unlikely.

The patched libdb2 passes both the extensive libdb2 test suite and the
rest of the krb5 test suite. Prior to patching, compiling krb5 with an
affected gcc would cause the krb5 test suite to stall when it reached
the libdb2 test suite. (The test suite stall is how we became aware of
  the gcc optimizer bug.)

The BSD TAILQ macros are generally considered to be safer than the
CIRCLEQ macros, and the various open-source BSD derivatives have made
the corresponding change to their libdb sources years ago, with no
reported ill effects that I can see.

[Bug 1347147] Re: krb5 database propagation enters infinite loop

2014-07-31 Thread Tom Yu
This problem is broader than slave KDCs; it can potentially affect any
write operation on a KDC with sufficiently many (more than a few
hundred) principals, causing database corruption or denial of service.
Altering the test case to create one principal per invocation of
kadmin.local shows that the spin condition depends on database contents
rather than process memory history.

It also manifests during krb5_db_get_principal(), not just
krb5_db_put_principal(), as shown in the below stack trace. Note the
krb5_db_get_principal() call in the stack trace is the one that is meant
to verify the master key.

Altered test case showing the spin condition on a fresh kadmin.local
invocation:

kdb5_util -W -r T create -s
awk 'BEGIN { for (i = 0; i < 1024; i++) { printf("%06d\n", i) } }' /dev/null |
(set -e; while read p; do kadmin.local -r T -q "ank -randkey $p"; done)

I still recommend preferring the test case I gave in comment #1 because
it executes more quickly.

kadmin.local stack trace:

I confirm that the packages at
https://launchpad.net/~hartmans/+archive/ubuntu/ubuntu-fixes appear to
fix the problem for Trusty amd64, based on the test case in comment #1.

[Bug 1349941] Re: qemu-ppc segfault on simple hello world

2014-07-30 Thread Tom Musta
This sounds like it could be the problem fixed by this:

commit a70daba3771e96cc6b8fd3d11ed297ab13717018
Author: Alexander Graf
Date: Thu Jun 5 11:39:43 2014 +0200

linux-user: Tell guest about big host page sizes

We tell the guest its page size via AUX vectors. The guest process then uses
this page size as information on which boundaries it can mmap() things.

However, if the host has a bigger page size granularity than the guest, it
can
not fulfill these mmap() requests - which falls apart when MAP_FIXED is
passed
to mmap.

So in that case, let the guest know that we're running on a bigger page size
granularity than the target would require.

This fixes running qemu-ppc (TARGET_PAGE_SIZE=4k) on a 64k page size ppc64
host
for me.

Reviewed-by: Richard Henderson

or possibly by this:

commit f46e9a0b9911fcfbc13f85f3a8808067990a0f5c
Author: Tom Musta
Date: Thu May 29 09:12:23 2014 -0500

target-ppc: Confirm That .bss Pages Are Valid

The existing code does a check to ensure that a .bss region is properly
mmap'd. When additional mmap is required, the (guest) pages are also
validated. However, this code has a bug: when host page size is larger
than target page size, it is possible for the .bss pages to already be
(host) mapped but the guest .bss pages may not be valid.

The check to mmap additional space is separated from the flagging of the
target (guest) pages, thus ensuring that both aspects are done properly.

[Bug 1347147] Re: krb5 database propagation enters infinite loop

2014-07-29 Thread Tom Yu
Test case:

On Ubuntu 14.04 on amd64, install krb5-admin-server and krb5-kdc.

kdb5_util -W -r T create -s
awk 'BEGIN{ for (i = 0; i < 1024; i++) { printf("ank -randkey a%06d\n", i) } }'
/dev/null | kadmin.local -r T

For me, kadmin.local begins consuming nearly 100% CPU starting at
"a000762". This implies that sites with more than a few hundred
principals are likely to find running a KDC using the 14.04 krb5
packages impossible.

[Bug 1242376] Re: "reload php5-fpm" crashes

2014-06-20 Thread Tom Fotherby
We ran into this bug while upgrading our servers from 12.04 LTS to 14.04
LTS. It is serious for us. When we deploy our app, we need to do
`service php5-fpm reload` so that the php opcode cache is flushed,
otherwise old files will still be served. Doing a `php5-fpm restart`
isn't a option as it does not handle existing connections gracefully.

We would really really appreciate for this bug to be fixed in the Ubuntu
repos. It is really not a good bug to have in a LTS release for folks
who run PHP. It will catch many people out.

[Bug 872824] Re: Network-manager locks up when adding strongSwan VPN connection

2014-06-04 Thread Tom Metro
Here are the steps to install the 12.10 binaries on 12.04:

% wget
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/108979339/network-manager-strongswan_1.3.0-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb
% wget
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/108979332/strongswan-nm_4.5.2-1.5ubuntu2_amd64.deb
% wget
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/108979331/strongswan-ikev2_4.5.2-1.5ubuntu2_amd64.deb
% wget
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/108979327/libstrongswan_4.5.2-1.5ubuntu2_amd64.deb
% sudo dpkg -i libstrongswan_4.5.2-1.5ubuntu2_amd64.deb
% sudo dpkg -i strongswan-ikev2_4.5.2-1.5ubuntu2_amd64.deb
% sudo dpkg -i strongswan-nm_4.5.2-1.5ubuntu2_amd64.deb
% sudo dpkg -i network-manager-strongswan_1.3.0-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb

I can confirm this gets you past the hang and lets the config dialog
appear. I can't confirm that strongswan itself is functional, as the
other end of the connection I'm testing requires a pre-shared key, and
the strongswan wiki[1] page on the Network Manager plugin notes that,
"PSK is not supported, as it is considered insecure if the secrets are
not strong enough." (So PSK is supported by strongswan (as documented
elsewhere), just not by the Network Manager plugin. Thanks for the value
judgment.)

Reinstalling openswan.

[Bug 1303876] Re: VPN agent dependencies are foobar

2014-05-01 Thread Tom Verdaat
Unlike the l3 agent package the vpn agent package is lacking the
/etc/init/neutron-l3-agent.conf file required to start the l3 agent.

Does the vpn agent provide a superset of functionality which means that
if you're already running the vpn agent you don't need to separately run
the l3 agent? Or is this a mistake which means this bug needs to be
reopened?

[Bug 1301122] [NEW] Horizon Icehouse rc-1 in trusty does not work out of the box

2014-04-01 Thread Tom Fifield
Public bug reported:

Hi,

On Precise, using the cloud archive rc-1 packages, horizon works out of
the box, installed using:

# apt-get install memcached libapache2-mod-wsgi openstack-dashboard

(Havana on precise worked in the same way)

In Trusty, that install line no longer pulls in apache2, and does not
enable the horizon config ... which is probably a good thing, because
even with libapache2-mod-wsgi installed:

# service apache2 restart
 * Restarting web server apache2
   [fail]
 * The apache2 configtest failed.
Output of config test was:
AH00526: Syntax error on line 1 of
/etc/apache2/conf-enabled/openstack-dashboard.conf:
Invalid command 'WSGIScriptAlias', perhaps misspelled or defined by a module
not included in the server configuration
Action 'configtest' failed.

I'd love to know if I'm going wrong somewhere here :)

[Bug 1244713] [NEW] invalid syntax for check_ssh plugin

2013-10-25 Thread Tom Worley
Public bug reported:

Since upgrading to 13.10 our check_ssh has been failing with the
error:"Usage:" with an "unknown" state.

After a little digging it seems that the following file has the incorrect
definition for the check_ssh checker:
/etc/nagios-plugins/config/ssh.cfg
Specifically the first section:

define command{
command_namecheck_ssh
command_line/usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_ssh '$HOSTADDRESS$'
'$ARG1$'
}

[Bug 1022612] Re: private instance IPs can only reach public IPs in other regions, not the same region

2013-05-29 Thread Tom Haddon
>From http://docs.openstack.org/folsom/openstack-compute/admin/content
/associating-public-ip.html:

"""
Traffic between VMs using floating IPs:

Note that due to the way floating IPs are implemented using a source NAT (SNAT
rule in iptables), inconsistent behaviour of security groups can be seen if VMs
use their floating IP to communicate with other virtual machines - particularly
on the same physical host. Traffic from VM to VM accross the fixed network does
not have this issue, and this is the recommended path. To ensure traffic
doesn't get SNATed to the floating range, explicitly set dmz_cidr=x.x.x.x/y.
x.x.x.x/y is the range of floating ips for each pool of floating ips you
define. This configuration is also necessary to make source_groups work if the
vms in the source group have floating ips.

[Bug 623608] Re: Syslog time it's wrong

2013-03-27 Thread Tom Stocker
This bug is still open after 2 1/2 year We're also affected. tftpd
logs wrong times to syslog (UTC time instead of timezone). It would be
great if someone could resolve this.

I took a look at the other logs, so I can assure it's tftp and not
xinetd, since SSH logs correct time.

Maybe even a upstream (Debian) bug?

Cheers, Tom

[Bug 571572] Re: krb5 prefers the reverse pointer no matter what for locating service tickets.

2013-03-15 Thread Tom Yu
Additional experimentation indicates that Raring has a partial fix to
glibc that results in the observed libkrb5 behavior of rdns=false
working as intended. SRUs are still a good idea for earlier Ubuntu
releases. See also bug 1057526 for the underlying glibc bug.

[Bug 571572] Re: krb5 prefers the reverse pointer no matter what for locating service tickets.

2013-02-28 Thread Tom Yu
I can see no obvious source code changes to the krb5 packages between
Quantal and Raring that would result in the observed behavior of
rdns=false functioning on stock Raring libkrb5-3 but not on Quantal.
It's possible that the underlying bug in glibc got fixed in the
meanwhile. I haven't confirmed the Raring result personally yet, but I
do confirm that Precise is broken. I'll try to set up a public-facing
test fixture soon.

[Bug 571572] Re: krb5 prefers the reverse pointer no matter what for locating service tickets.

2013-01-11 Thread Tom Yu
I would strongly recommend SRUs for all supported releases, because this
is a high-impact bug for people who are deploying krb5 in environments
where they do not have tight control over their reverse DNS information.
Experience has shown that this type of hard-to-debug DNS interaction
leads to a lot of frustration and wasted time.

[Bug 262892] Re: Possible bug found in SSHD and tunneling(Based on question number 43605)

2013-01-02 Thread Tom Moore
FYI.. this is probably related to SSHD and not ubuntu. This happens on
archlinux as well, and may have something to do with DNS lookups that
are forwarded through the SSH proxy. Changing "AddressFamily inet" in
sshd_config may help, as that prevents the dns from doing ipv6 lookups.

[Bug 955510] Re: failed attach leaves stale iSCSI session on compute host

2012-05-14 Thread Tom Hite
Hi,

I am convinced this bug is partially fixes, though not completely. I can
recreate the issue very simply:

1) As a first point, let's use KVM/libvirt/Essex release on Ubuntu 12.04
(up to date as of 5/11/2012);

2) Create a volume (pick a size);

3) Attach that volume to a VM, supplying, /dev/vdz as your attach;

On my hardware (Dell) that creates precisely the bug given above. Logs
are below. Those are the last nova-computes that will occur until it's
restarted.

After this log, virsh *will* respond to virsh list--all, but nova-
compute is no longer responsive. If I thereafter stop nova-compute, and
restart, it will never start because at that point libvirt is hung (even
virsh cannot connect, though it could prior to the nova-compute
restart).

As for attaching under normal circumstances (pick /dev/vdc for your
first attach), and all goes well. However, I do not (re)raise the
'stupid device' thing, for instance /dev/vdz, just to raise this bug.
I'm working with another team using HP Proliant DL380G6 with BIOS v.
P62, and it exhibits precisely the error in *all* cases of /dev/vdc, but
not using higher device names (e.g., /dev/vdx) -- in that case, the VM
has only /dev/vda at that point.

In any event, this is a pretty bad situation.

[Bug 985727] Re: krb5-admin-server falsely claiming clock skew errors

2012-04-25 Thread Tom Yu
As I mentioned in the upstream bug tracker
(http://krbdev.mit.edu/rt/Ticket/Display.html?id=7118), I suspect this
is an entropy shortage issue. ("kadmind -W" should force the use of weak
random data)

[Bug 871278] Re: Cannot attach volumes to instances if tgt is used

2012-03-09 Thread Tom Ellis
I had to modify the original patch a little to to get it to work (set it to 1
instead of 0 for tgt):
http://paste.ubuntu.com/876094/

For essex, I see driver.py has changed anyway and now has that fix in
the iscsi.py helper script.

[Bug 871278] Re: Cannot attach volumes to instances if tgt is used

2012-03-09 Thread Tom Ellis
This is still occurring in oneiric with diablo, could someone spin a new
pkg that isn't superseded by the 2011.3-0ubuntu6.2 security update?

Thanks!
