'exit status 139' is a segmentation fault and there's virtually nothing
in the postinst script which should segfault.

Please check your memory using memcheck (f.e. from Ubuntu CD)

I disagree, the problem seems to be an impossible circular dependency 
problem, which after so many iterations
looks like it is blowing up... IE segfault.

I also ran a complete memory test on this server it passed with no
errors.
