Public bug reported:

The net-tools package (provides ifconfig etc) is deprecated on GNU/Linux for 
decades already in favor of iproute2.
  Openvpn is capable to work with iproute2 if compiled with ./configure 
--enable-iproute2
  Thus openvpn package should be compiled with --enable-iproute2 and depend on 
iproute2 instead of net-tools.
