[Bug 1303717] Re: (trusty) missing /etc/init.d/ files

2015-01-21 Thread Ze Grisi
Please, how do I restart nis on Ubuntu 14.04?
If the commands
/etc/init.d/nis stop
/etc/init.d/nis start
doesn't work, how do I do it now?

2014-11-19 Thread Eagle D
It seems that the new nis package is a bit different from the old one in
what services startup location matters... Please, make it clear on the
basics steps needed to configure and use nis. Not knowing where the
services are or how to call them is the main problem here.

[Bug 1303717] Re: (trusty) missing /etc/init.d/ files

2014-04-07 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

This package uses upstart on Ubuntu, which uses files in /etc/init/
rather than /etc/init.d/. Considering this, please could you explain why
files missing in /etc/init.d/ is a bug?

Once you're replied, please change the bug status back to New.

Thanks!

[Bug 1303717] Re: (trusty) missing /etc/init.d/ files

2014-04-07 Thread hiweed
Thanks a lot for your prompt response, Robie!

Before reporting this, I double-checked nis package in:
 - lucid (10.04LTS)
 - precise (12.04LTS)
 - quantal (12.10)
 - raring (13.04)
 - saucy (13.10)
nis in all above versions have /etc/init.d/ folder.

Then I read the changelog of trusty, there is no such record about
removing /etc/init.d/.

This is a compatibility Issues. Users will feel very confused when they
were not able to find /etc/init.d/nis.

2014-04-07 Thread Leng Ganghua
Document of nis package is still using /etc/init.d/nis script:

In /usr/share/doc/nis/nis.debian.howto.gz:

  1.4 Start NIS by typing:

   /etc/init.d/nis stop
   /etc/init.d/nis start
