Hi Robie, this is a ubuntu specific bug because ipv6 support is added by backuppc_3.3.0-1ubuntu1.diff.gz Unless ping6-variable is defined hosts which have an ipv4 and ipv6 dns record will fail! Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It looks like this functionality would best be sent upstream, if it is not fixed and has not been reported there already. Unless Ubuntu has a specific blueprint goal that involves adding ping6 support, I don't think it would be appropriate to patch this support into Ubuntu directly without upstream support, due to the additional maintenance burden.
