I've given up on ubuntu having a good version and just wrote my own script to get the newest go-lang installed. Kind of unfortunate to require this effort. This is a major release ahead of the package currently available for trusty and other versions of Ubuntu. This is one of those packages that needs to be on a 'rolling release' list. It doesn't make sense to not update this package as soon as a new release is released. Each new version of Go fixes bugs and makes drastic improvements over the last version.
