[Bug 456602] Re: libvirtError: operation failed: could not query memory balloon allocation

2009-11-03 Thread Boris Devouge
My experience on fully updated karmic amd64 kvm host:

- an ubuntu 8.04 LTS i386 guest crashes constantly (VM simply goes *poof* and
disappears after 5 to 10 minutes uptime)
- 9.10 amd64 guest lives

Now what is interesting relating to the 'acpi' suggested cause is:

- All 2 guests have acpi/ defined in their xml definitions
- Pressing the 'Shutdown' button on the 9.10 guest has no effect
- Pressing the 'Shutdown' button on the 8.04 LTS guest works and shuts the VM

I have the same messages in logs:

libvirtd: 03:02:32.711: error : qemudDomainGetMemoryBalloon:3117 :
operation failed: could not query memory balloon allocation

Happy to provide more info.

i think what dustin means here is that this is a valid karmic-updates
target. adjusting karmic target status and milestone accordingly.

[Bug 456602] Re: libvirtError: operation failed: could not query memory balloon allocation

2009-10-20 Thread Jamie Strandboge
I can't confirm personally because I don't have a XP install disk handy, but
this looks like the following bugs:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=500968
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=519667

From 500968:
Okay, I can reproduce - the key is that this is a guest which doesn't have ACPI
enabled.

With -no-acpi, qemu will exit immediately when issued the system_powerdown
command.

Then when virt-manager does a virDomainGetInfo(), libvirtd detects an error on
the monitor fd and returns an error rather than handling it as a normal guest
shutdown.

[Bug 456602] Re: libvirtError: operation failed: could not query memory balloon allocation

2009-10-20 Thread Dustin Kirkland
Thanks for the bug report.

I'm declining this for Karmic right now (in that I'm not going to
personally work on fixing it between now and release).

If someone else has a tested, working patch (ideally from upstream
libvirt), I will gladly look it over, test it, and sponsor an upload.
It will be up to the release team as to whether or not this succeeds.
