After much hair-pulling (mostly because the documentation is sketchy at best, partly because I'm a LDAP noob), am able to confirm that the posted LDIF works. That said, in the process I found that there are the two alternate schema options for ldap automount trees - one that's apparently NIS based, and one that uses automountKey and automountMapName instead of ou and cn.
