[Bug 255368] Re: ebox: Depends: libapache-authcookie-perl but it is not installable

2008-12-05 Thread drapsag
Leslie:

I tried that before and it doesn't works. It look likes it is installed,
but it won't start the Ebox deamons. It keeps on saying there is
something wrong with orbit I can't reproduce it, because I installed
ebox by adding the deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/ebox/ubuntu intrepid
main to my sources.list. This isn't the best solution although, because
it isn't stable in my opinion.

My whole impression of ubuntu 8.10 isn't very good. It is buggy, not
finished, not complete. I think I will go back to hardy...

Max, Richard others, I need your help: in order to issue an official
update for Intrepid, we need an easy test case to demonstrate the bug in
the current version and show that the proposed update fixes it.

Could you provide a minimal example webapp that could be used by
verifiers ? Thanks in advance for your help.

[Bug 294277] Re: Tomcat 6 missing directory Catalina in /etc/tomcat6 - so impossible to deploy webapp

2008-12-05 Thread Thierry Carrez
Intrepid SRU Report

Bug impact: Tomcat doesn't fully autodeploy applications dropped into
/var/lib/tomcat6/webapps: it fails to autodeploy the context file into
/etc/tomcat6/Catalina/localhost. This results in half-deployed
applications and a difficult problem to troubleshoot.

Versions affected: Intrepid (tomcat6 didn't exist before)
Fix in development branch: Was fixed in 6.0.18-0ubuntu4 (see comment 5)

Minimal patch: see comment 6 just above. This will be released as a
combined SRU with bug 283852.

TEST CASE:
Download the attached test-deploy.war, then:
$ sudo apt-get install tomcat6
$ sudo cp test-deploy.war /var/lib/tomcat6/webapps/
After a few seconds, you should be able to access
http://localhost:8080/test-deploy/
Without the fix, the displayed context parameter value is null.
/etc/tomcat6/Catalina/localhost doesn't exist.
With the fix, the displayed context parameter value is My Company,
Incorporated. An /etc/tomcat6/Catalina/localhost/test-deploy.xml file was
automatically created.

Regression potential:
The patch basically creates the Catalina/localhost directories in tomcat6
(rather than waiting for a webapp package to create them) and changes the
permissions from root:root 755 to 775 root:tomcat6. This is a targeted and
permissive change, so the regression potential is very low.

[Bug 305454] [NEW] 'mount error 13 = Permission denied' when user mounts cifs (sudo works!)

2008-12-05 Thread Ernst
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

I'm using samba to share files between my home computer (dual boot
Windows/Ubuntu 8.10) and my laptop (Ubuntu 8.10). Most of the time,
Windows is running at the home computer. Sharing goes fine with the
following fstab entry:

//172.19.3.4/Media  /home/user/media  cifs
noauto,users,exec,uid=1000,gid=1000,password=,iocharset=utf80
0

With this command line, a user can mount it (if Windows shares the
directory!).

Yesterday I booted again to Ubuntu on my home computer and there were a
lot of updates, I also think Samba got updated. I noticed that all my
shares were unshared, so I had to share my folders again. I did so,
using the 'Share' tab of the folder and I gave access to guests.

Now, on my laptop I can only mount the share as super user (sudo mount
~/media). If I mount the share as normal user, I get the following
message:

mount error 13 = Permission denied
Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g.man mount.cifs)

This used to work, but now it doesn't. So, I think this justifies a bug report.
Hopefully, this makes Ubuntu better :-).
(Again: If I share a map on Windows (Desktop) and access this map with Ubuntu
(Laptop), a user can mount it. If I share a map on Ubuntu (Desktop) and access
this map with Ubuntu (Laptop), a user cannot mount the share.)

Some more info:
Both computers are running the following version of Samba:
apt-cache policy samba
samba:
  Installed: 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3.3
  Candidate: 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3.3
  Version table:
 *** 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3.3 0

100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3 0

The laptop has proposed enabled.

sudo smbmount 192.168.1.102\\video video

it seem to work, but not in my case.

Any help please? I have all my information in the NAS disc so I'm
completely lost here. Even FTP protocol doesn't work fine with folders

Thanks for help!

2008-12-05 Thread Randy Slzlr
Could this be related to 302252, which I reported last week.

I'm using id_rsa, instead of id_dsa. Unlike this bug, the workaround
(removing the default key) does not work.

[Bug 305107] Re: mysql refuses to start after security update

2008-12-05 Thread Henning Sprang
O.k. I checked this again.

I went through the steps mentioned before to reproduce the problem.

After installation of mysql-server-5.0 from the apt repository _without_
security updates, the directory conf.d and a file in it,
old_passwords.cnf EXISTS!

Adding the security repository and then upgrading the package, makes the
directory conf.d be DELETED, seemingly be the upgrade/postinstall
script, and then, the server fails to start!

Nnot only is it wrong in my opinion that a sertver fails to start when
an optional directory is missing, that the upgrade process even deletes
this directory, without which the server cannot start... strange.

Additional info: I made a default desktop install from live cd, not a server
install. marking the bug confirmed, as I thoroughly tested it on a clean
install.

The simplest fix I can imagine would be to change the mysqld start
script to ignore the optional directory if not there.

What's happening is that the /etc/init.d/drbd script is having it's LSB
headers parsed by the update-rc.d program. These are the LSB headers:

### BEGIN INIT INFO
# Provides: drbd
# Required-Start: $network $syslog sshd
# Required-Stop: $network $syslog sshd
# Default-Start:  3 5
# Default-Stop:   0 1 2 6
# Short-Description:Control drbd resources.
### END INIT INFO

The line:

# Default-Start:  3 5

Means update-rc.d will only create start links in rc3.d and rc5.d. This
is why not start link appears in rc2.d and why drbd doesn't start at
boot.

It seems a simple fix would be to remove the LSB headers from this
script as they are breaking the expected function of update-rc.d.

Patched. I decided to just change the start/stop lines to match the
update-rc.d defaults.

Debdiff attached.

[Bug 252200] Re: ssh-agent does not expire key

2008-12-05 Thread Kenny Millington
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 209447 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/209447

That's certainly gnome-keyring's socket.

I'm going to go ahead mark this bug a duplicate, for a work around
please see bug: #209447.

The work around involves resetting your ssh-agent back to the standard
one and not gnome-keyring.

However Intrepid introduced a further bug which stops you from doing
this, so for a further workaround you'll also need to see bug: #275010

Hope this helps!

[Bug 305107] Re: mysql refuses to start after security update

2008-12-05 Thread Marc Deslauriers
I can't reproduce this issue. Here's what I've done:

- Installed Hardy
- Disabled -updates and -security in /etc/apt/sources.list
- sudo apt-get install mysql-server-5.0
- Directory /etc/mysql/conf.d exists with old_passwords.cnf in it
- Enabled -updates and -security in /etc/apt/sources.list
- sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
- Directory /etc/mysql/conf.d still exists (with no files in it)
- Mysql starts fine

Also, I took a look at all the scripts in the mysql package, and I don't
see where any of them could remove that directory.

I am not sure why you're getting this issue. Is there anything else you
are installing or doing to reproduce it?

[Bug 255368] Re: ebox: Depends: libapache-authcookie-perl but it is not installable

2008-12-05 Thread Matthew East
The task on ubuntu-docs is invalid, this isn't a problem with the
documentation as the package should be installable. When the package is
fixed, the documentation will work as intended.

I've accidentally declined this bug for intrepid on ebox as I didn't
realise that declining it on the ubuntu-docs task would decline it on
all tasks... Launchpad's UI is rather misleading there.

Strange.
I'm checking again - it will take a while.

About the only thing that I did additionally before installing, to
better track changes, is that I installed etckeeper and did

git init-db
git add .
git commit -m init

[Bug 302252] Re: openssh sshd authorized_keys wrong command= (statefull value?)

2008-12-05 Thread Randy Slzlr
The problem goes away if I manually kill the gnome-keyring-daemon

If not killed, /var/log/auth.log contains suspicious entries such as...

Dec  5 17:12:30 slzlr7 gnome-keyring-daemon[5489]: Unsupported or unknown SSH
key algorithm: command=echo
Dec  5 17:12:30 slzlr7 gnome-keyring-daemon[5489]: invalid secure shell public
key file: HOME:/.ssh/id_rsa-BUG-TEST6.pub

This suggests to me that gnome-keyring-daemon does not parse
~/.ssh/authorized_keys correctly
when the value for command= contains a multi-word value (which must be
quoted).

You're right!
When I don't do any git / etckeeper stuff, the empty directory remains.
When I do

apt-get install etckeeper
etckeeper init

the conf.d directory is deleted and mysql cannot start.
I did not think that could be causing the error

So we have really two bugs:

1) for etckeeper: it should not delete empty directories after a
system upgrade (in general, don't apply any changes on upgrades,
unless being explicitly told to clean something up)
2) In any case, the issue of the daemon not starting just because a
missing optional directory remains here for mysql

[Bug 305646] [NEW] PerlSetEnv not working consistently in libapache2-mod-perl

2008-12-05 Thread Vernon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libapache2-mod-perl2

PerlSetEnv does not work correctly, unless it appears after a Perl/Perl
block.
This may also affect PerlPassEnv, SetEnv, or other directives.
This has been reported elsewhere on the web but no-one seems to take note.

Here's how to duplicate...

Test1 - In http.conf:

PerlModule Data::Dumper
PerlSetEnv BOB hello
Perl
warn Data::Dumper::Dumper(\%ENV);
/Perl

Ok, so when we run apache2ctl configtest we get:
$VAR1 = {
  'PATH' =
'/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games',
  'MOD_PERL_API_VERSION' = '2',
  'MOD_PERL' = 'mod_perl/2.0.4'
};
Syntax OK

As you can see the environment variable BOB does not exist. So, next test...

Test2 - In http.conf:

PerlModule Data::Dumper
Perl

/Perl
PerlSetEnv BOB hello
Perl
warn Data::Dumper::Dumper(\%ENV);
/Perl

Note the empty Perl/Perl block with a blank line! (The blank line is
important)
Ok, so when we run apache2ctl configtest we get:
$VAR1 = {
  'BOB' = 'hello',
  'PATH' =
'/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games',
  'MOD_PERL_API_VERSION' = '2',
  'MOD_PERL' = 'mod_perl/2.0.4'
};
Syntax OK

Suddenly the PerlSetEnv works! PerlSetEnv should work without the need to
include a blank Perl/Perl block.
This is particularly important because scripts called with PerlRequire and
other directives (PerlConfigRequire PerlPostConfigRequire) will NOT get the
correct %ENV variables passed on to them.

This was tested on:
Linux ubuntu 2.6.27-9-generic (Ubuntu 8.10)
libapache2-mod-perl2 2.0.4-1ubuntu1
apache2 2.2.9-7ubuntu3
