[Bug 1021271] [NEW] KVM "enabling virtualization on CPU0 failed"
Public bug reported: Background: Ubuntu 12.04 server, running amd64 version, AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ CPU. KVM worked fine on the same physical hardware when previously Debian Lenny. $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Release:12.04 $ $ apt-cache policy kvm kvm: Installed: 1:84+dfsg-0ubuntu16+1.0+noroms+0ubuntu13 Candidate: 1:84+dfsg-0ubuntu16+1.0+noroms+0ubuntu13 Version table: *** 1:84+dfsg-0ubuntu16+1.0+noroms+0ubuntu13 0 500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status $ Expected result: KVM should start and work without error, using hardware acceleration of CPU. [Bug 1017862] Re: Migrate to dpkg --add-architecture to track foreign architecture in template lxc-ubuntu
** Changed in: lxc (Ubuntu Precise) Assignee: (unassigned) => Stéphane Graber (stgraber) ** Changed in: lxc (Ubuntu Precise) Status: New => In Progress ** Description changed: The template lxc-ubuntu uses a dpkg configuration file to enable a foreign architecture when qemu-*-static is installed. Starting from 1.16.2 dpkg added new dpkg --add-architecture and --remove-architecture commands to track supported architectures. The configauration file /etc/dpkg/dpkg.cfg.d/lxc-multiarch shouldn't be use anymore and replaced by dpkg --add-architecture $hostarch ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.10 Package: lxc 0.8.0~rc1-4ubuntu16 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.5.0-1.1-generic 3.5.0-rc3 Uname: Linux 3.5.0-1-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.2.5-0ubuntu1 Architecture: amd64 Date: Tue Jun 26 10:41:27 2012 ProcEnviron: - TERM=xterm - PATH=(custom, user) - LANG=en_US.UTF-8 - SHELL=/bin/bash + TERM=xterm + PATH=(custom, user) + LANG=en_US.UTF-8 + SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: lxc UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to quantal on 2012-01-31 (146 days ago) lxcsyslog: + + [rational] + Starting with quantal, setting up multiarch needs to be done using dpkg --add-architecture instead of writing configuration files in /etc/dpkg/. + The current lxc ubuntu template in 12.04 supports quantal but won't be able to build an armhf container unless this change is applied. + + [test case] + 1) lxc-create -t ubuntu -n p1 -- -r quantal -a armhf + + 1) should succeed, prior to that fix, it'd fail with dpkg errors. + + [regression potential] + The area of the code being touched is specific to building containers of a foreign architecture, so the worst that can happen is breakage for anyone building arm/powerpc containers on x86. [Bug 1021411] [NEW] LXC should allow writting to /proc/sys/kernel/shm* as they are covered by the IPC namespace
Public bug reported: Filing this bug based on discussion on lxc-devel and lxc-users where multiple people reported trying to increase shmmax and getting permission denied from apparmor. After doing some more checks with Serge, it was confirmed that /proc/sys/kernel/shm* are part of the IPC namespace and won't affect the host. The only problem being a potential DOS of the host by filling /run/shm but that's a generic tmpfs problem that's present whether or not we allow writting to the shm control files. [rational] Multiple people expressed the need to change their IPC namespace settings in /proc/sys/kernel/shm*, these are currently denied by apparmor through a generic rule. After checking, these aren't considered dangerous and so should indeed be allowed. [test case] 1) start a container 2) try to update /proc/sys/kernel/shmmax 2) should work, in the past it'd fail with ENOPERM [regression potential] The apparmor syntax was confirmed to be correct and was tested on quantal and precise, I can't think of any possible regression caused by this change to the apparmor profile. The only potential problem would be if some kernels were to expose shm* entries that aren't tied to the IPC namespace, but on the kernels I tried it on (stock Ubuntu kernels), that's not the case. ** Affects: lxc (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Fix Released ** Affects: lxc (Ubuntu Precise) Importance: Wishlist Assignee: Stéphane Graber (stgraber) Status: In Progress ** Affects: lxc (Ubuntu Quantal) Importance: Undecided Status: Fix Released ** Also affects: lxc (Ubuntu Precise) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: lxc (Ubuntu Quantal) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: lxc (Ubuntu Quantal) Status: New => Fix Released ** Changed in: lxc (Ubuntu Precise) Status: New => In Progress ** Changed in: lxc (Ubuntu Precise) Importance: Undecided => Wishlist ** Changed in: lxc (Ubuntu Precise) Assignee: (unassigned) => Stéphane Graber (stgraber) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to lxc in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1021411 Title: LXC should allow writting to /proc/sys/kernel/shm* as they are covered by the IPC namespace To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxc/+bug/1021411/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1021416] [NEW] lxc-clone shouldn't be messing with dhclient.conf, causes conffile upgrade prompts on quantal
Public bug reported: lxc-clone currently updates the host-name option of /etc/dhcp/dhclient.conf when copying a container. This isn't needed as Ubuntu uses "" or "gethostname()" as dynamic placeholders specifically to avoid updating that file. In quantal, I replaced our "" patch by the isc upstream "gethostname()" call in dhclient.conf, the upgrade worked fine for any regular system but would cause a conffile upgrade prompt on containers that were copied using lxc-clone. I updated lxc-clone to only update host-name on systems that don't have "" or "gethostname()" so we don't regress the behaviour for other distros but fix Debian and Ubuntu. [rational] There's no reason to currently updated /etc/dhcp/dhclient.conf on Ubuntu and Debian systems, this causes extra conffile prompts on upgrades and goes against our policy of using a clean Ubuntu system for our containers. [test case] 1) lxc-create -t ubuntu -n p1 2) lxc-clone -o p1 -n p2 3) grep host-name /var/lib/lxc/p2/rootfs/etc/dhcp/dhclient.conf 3) shouldn't contain the container's hostname but "" or "gethostname()" (depending on Ubuntu versions of isc-dhcp) [regression potential] I believe the grep call is correct but should it fail, the worst that can happen is some system not getting their /etc/dhcp/dhclient.conf mangled (on non-ubuntu/non-debian containers) or having ubuntu/debian containers getting their /etc/dhcp/dhclient.conf mangled in an identical way as we do pre-sru. ** Affects: lxc (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Fix Released ** Affects: lxc (Ubuntu Precise) Importance: Medium Assignee: Stéphane Graber (stgraber) Status: In Progress ** Affects: lxc (Ubuntu Quantal) Importance: Undecided Status: Fix Released ** Also affects: lxc (Ubuntu Precise) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: lxc (Ubuntu Quantal) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: lxc (Ubuntu Quantal) Status: New => Fix Released ** Changed in: lxc (Ubuntu Precise) Importance: Undecided => Medium ** Changed in: lxc (Ubuntu Precise) Assignee: (unassigned) => Stéphane Graber (stgraber) ** Changed in: lxc (Ubuntu Precise) Status: New => In Progress -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to lxc in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1021416 Title: lxc-clone shouldn't be messing with dhclient.conf, causes conffile upgrade prompts on quantal To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxc/+bug/1021416/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 1021421] [NEW] Allow fstype=fuse.*, for all containers
Public bug reported: It's been reported that quite a few juju charms require mounting fuse filesystems. lxc-ubuntu's default template already allows access to /dev/fuse but the apparmor profile doesn't currently allow mounting these filesystems. After discussing it with Serge, we don't think there's any additional risk to allowing fuse filesystem mounts in the container, any concern with fuse should be resolved by blocking /dev/fuse in the container's config instead of preventing mounts in apparmor. [rational] Quite a few juju charms rely on fuse to mount some filesystems (sshfs, glusterfs, ...). These are currently blocked by apparmor even though /dev/fuse itself is allowed by default. [test case] 1) lxc-create -t ubuntu -n p1 2) lxc-start -n p1 2a) apt-get install sshfs 2b) sshfs 2b) should succeed (would be permission denied in the past) [regression potential] The change is limited to allowing fstype=fuse.* in apparmor. The profile has already been tested on precise and quantal, so we know the apparmor parser will compile the profile just fine. The worst case I can see happening is some fuse filesystems not being allowed by this expression, but it'd be no worse than what we have today (none of them being allowed). ** Affects: lxc (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Fix Released ** Affects: lxc (Ubuntu Precise) Importance: Wishlist Assignee: Stéphane Graber (stgraber) Status: In Progress ** Affects: lxc (Ubuntu Quantal) Importance: Undecided Status: Fix Released ** Also affects: lxc (Ubuntu Precise) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: lxc (Ubuntu Quantal) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: lxc (Ubuntu Quantal) Status: New => Fix Released ** Changed in: lxc (Ubuntu Precise) Status: New => In Progress ** Changed in: lxc (Ubuntu Precise) Importance: Undecided => Wishlist ** Changed in: lxc (Ubuntu Precise) Assignee: (unassigned) => Stéphane Graber (stgraber) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to lxc in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1021421 Title: Allow fstype=fuse.*, for all containers To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxc/+bug/1021421/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1021428] [NEW] dh_apparmor runs against all binary packages, adding useless entries to lxc-dev's postinst/postrm
Public bug reported: The dh_apparmor call in debian/rules isn't called using "-p " and so adds apparmor entries to the postinst/postrm of all the binary packages, not just the one containing the profiles. This is clearly wrong and at the very least confusing (if not a source of bugs). [rational] The apparmor postinst/postrm code should only be added to the package containing the profiles and not to lxc-dev. The fix is trivial and can potentially fix bugs. [test case] 1) apt-get install lxc-dev 2) grep apparmor /var/lib/dpkg/info/lxc-dev* 2) shouldn't return anything as lxc-dev doesn't have anything to do with apparmor [regression potential] The change has been tested on quantal and precise, the apparmor maintainer script entries are indeed limited to just the lxc binary package after that change. Should everything go wrong, the worst that can happen is a missing apparmor maintainer script entry in lxc which will prevent a reload of the profile at upgrade time, though the profile will still be applied at boot time. ** Affects: lxc (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Fix Released ** Affects: lxc (Ubuntu Precise) Importance: Low Assignee: Stéphane Graber (stgraber) Status: In Progress ** Affects: lxc (Ubuntu Quantal) Importance: Undecided Status: Fix Released ** Also affects: lxc (Ubuntu Precise) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: lxc (Ubuntu Quantal) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: lxc (Ubuntu Quantal) Status: New => Fix Released ** Changed in: lxc (Ubuntu Precise) Status: New => In Progress ** Changed in: lxc (Ubuntu Precise) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: lxc (Ubuntu Precise) Assignee: (unassigned) => Stéphane Graber (stgraber) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to lxc in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1021428 Title: dh_apparmor runs against all binary packages, adding useless entries to lxc-dev's postinst/postrm To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxc/+bug/1021428/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 959352] Re: Ephemeral containers have "/rootfs" prefix in /proc/self/maps entries
It would be helpful if anyone could confirm if this issue remains with the latest Quantal 3.5.0-3.3 kernel. We do have the Quantal kernel available for testing in Precise via the q-lts-backport PPA: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/q-lts-backport sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/q-lts-backport sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install linux-image-generic-lts-quantal linux-headers-generic-lts-quantal -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to lxc in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/959352 Title: Ephemeral containers have "/rootfs" prefix in /proc/self/maps entries To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/959352/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 1021530] Re: update to include stable fixes for OVS 1.4
Dan-- Thanks for reporting and helping Ubuntu better! As per the policies surrounding stable release updates [1], at this point its not really possible to release a new upstream version of OVS into 12.04. Best bet would be to provide some details of the OVS bug, links to upstream bug reports and commits that fixed the issue and see about possibly back- porting the fix to Precise via an SRU.
