What about Precise (as this is still the mostly used on servers)? The
current client version in precise is 90% unusable.

[Bug 1179966] Re: Please upgrade python-pika to 0.9.12

2013-07-29 Thread Robie Basak
See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates -
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#New_upstream_microreleases
in particular.

If the version in Precise is completely unusable, then I think an SRU
would be reasonable. Or if all the changes through to 0.9.13 meet the
SRU criteria. So does 0.9.5 - 0.9.13 only fix bugs, or add new
features as well? And is the current version completely unusable for all
users, or only unusable for a specific subset?

If an update does not meet SRU criteria, then another option is a
backport: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuBackports

Please could you investigate, comment on which route is appropriate, and
justify the criteria?

@darren make sure you also update 'libcib1' package. That's the binary
where the fix is contained.

anyone as it is both unstable and missing key features like keepalives
and reconnections.

[Bug 1179966] Re: Please upgrade python-pika to 0.9.12

2013-07-29 Thread Robie Basak
I appreciate that the Pika developers say that it should not be used by
anyone. Nevertheless, 12.04 was released with that version, and people
may be using it today. We cannot undermine the stability of the stable
release by just updating without considering SRU criteria.

It is not reasonable to break existing users of the stable release, so
we must be careful not to do so. If nobody is willing to take this care,
then the stable release will not be updated.

I'd love to see this fixed, but if nobody is able to answer my questions
in comment #6, then I don't think this bug will be able to make any
progress in terms of an update for 12.04.

Have you considered driving 0.9.13 into the backports repository? This
doesn't really require anything except for backporting the package and
testing it, since it cannot break existing users.

[Bug 1206071] Re: package mysql-server-5.5 5.5.32-0ubuntu0.12.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: 子进程 已安装 post-installation 脚本 返回了错误号 1

2013-07-29 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your log files attached to this bug report it
seems that a package failed to install due to a segmentation fault in
the application being used for the package installation process.
Unfortunately, this bug report isn't very useful in its current state
and a crash report would be much more useful. Could you try recreating
this issue by enabling apport to catch the crash report 'sudo service
apport start force_start=1' and then trying to install the same package
again? This process will create a new bug report so I am marking this
one as Invalid. Thanks again for helping out!

inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1179966] Re: Please upgrade python-pika to 0.9.12

2013-07-29 Thread Robie Basak
OK, great!

The backports process is documented here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuBackports

You should file a new bug for the backport, and then prepare the
packaging appropriately.

[Bug 1202758] Re: hostname not resolvable on azure

2013-07-29 Thread Scott Moser
Interesting, i launched 10 instances and grepped cloud-init timestamps.
it seems pretty reliable that the ifdownup cycle is reported to take between 12
and 22 seconds.

$ cat /etc/cloud/cloud.cfg.d/my.cfg
datasource:
 Azure:
  hostname_bounce:
   # policy can be 'on', 'off' or 'force'
   policy: force
   # the method 'bounce' command.
   command: [bash, -xc, 'date; cat /proc/uptime; time echo ifdown
$interface; cat /proc/uptime; date; cat /proc/uptime; time echo ifup
$interface; cat /proc/uptime; date']

I put the above in that file, and then
echo ubuntu | time sudo sh -c 'tee /etc/hostname; hostname -F /etc/hostname;
ifdown eth0; ifup eth0;' ; sudo rm -Rf /var/lib/cloud/ /var/log/cloud-init.log

and reboot.

The issue seems to be ntpdate somehow getting in the way, although I'm not
exactly sure how.
If I put the .cfg file in place above, and then do:

chmod ugo-x /etc/network/if-up.d/ntpdate
sudo rm /var/lib/cloud/instance/obj.pkl ; time sudo cloud-init init
..
real0m1.273s
user0m0.791s
sys 0m0.257s

then this will take wall clock ~1.2 seconds.
doing the same with execute permissions on that file takes much longer.
$ sudo chmod ugo+x  /etc/network/if-up.d/ntpdate; sudo rm
/var/lib/cloud/instance/obj.pkl ; time sudo cloud-init init
...
real0m7.689s
user0m0.804s
sys 0m0.267s

just for reference, actually counting in my head, there is a measurable
difference in time (ie, its not just a clock-getting-set-while-counting-
thing).

You can run the above without rebooting too, and you'll see the issue.

[Bug 1202758] Re: hostname not resolvable on azure

2013-07-29 Thread Scott Moser
I'm going to fix this issue simply by not capturing output. I had done
that initially because there is no /dev/console output on azure.
However, if the user wants to see output, they should just have their
supplied command be 'sh' and redirect to a file.

[Bug 1206164] [NEW] /etc/network/if-up.d/ntpdate does not detach correctly

2013-07-29 Thread Scott Moser
Public bug reported:

It seems that the intent of /etc/network/if-up.d/ntpdate is to
background itself, as it creates a subshell with .

As reported in bug 1202758, this doesn't seem to work correctly. That
doesn't close the file descriptors. As a result, if something is
waiting on the output of 'ifup', it will sit and wait until ntpdate is
finished.

Example:
$ time sudo sh -c 'o=$(sh -c ifdown eth0 ; ifup eth0 21) ; echo $o'

If we change the way it detaches itself to close stdout, stdderr, and
stdin, then we're fine.

I'm reporting this, but I'm not sure how much of a real problem it is. As if th
e command sends stdin and stdout to /dev/null, then debugging its output would b
e more difficult.

Example diff:
$ diff -u /etc/network/if-up.d/ntpdate.dist /etc/network/if-up.d/ntpdate

[Bug 1206164] Re: /etc/network/if-up.d/ntpdate does not detach correctly

2013-07-29 Thread Scott Moser
for my usecase, it would probably be nicest if I could just disable this via
environment variable.
perhaps:
  DISABLE_NTPDATE=1 ifup eth0

and then just a simple check for that variable in the script:
[ ${DISABLE_NTPDATE:-0} != 0 ]  exit 0

[Bug 1206367] [NEW] radclient fails to validate Message-Authenticator on Disconnect-ACK packets

Acct-Session-Id = -XXX
User-Name = u...@name.com
Message-Authenticator = 0x
Event-Timestamp = Jul 30 2013 06:51:06 CEST
rad_recv: Disconnect-ACK packet from host 10.0.0.2 port 3799, id=176, length=44
rad_verify: Received packet from 10.0.0.2 with invalid Message-Authenticator!
(Shared secret is incorrect.)

The last line is where the problem is: the incoming Disconnect-ACK
