2014-12-09 Thread Liam Young
Public bug reported:

Please sync python-logutils 0.3.3-2 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

[Bug 1400660] [NEW] the mailman package removes preconfigured debconf on installation

2014-12-09 Thread TheSeal
Public bug reported:

the mailman package removes preconfigured debconf on installation

When installing mailman for the first time the ”config” script (that seems to
be called in preconfigure state by debconf) removes the preconfigured debconf.
This behaivor is not wanted and I don’t think that the debconf rules allows it.

[Bug 1400705] [NEW] Xen 4.4 used Qemu suddenly after update

2014-12-09 Thread Sven
Public bug reported:

I am using Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS on two maschines for Xen.
After upgrading from Ubuntu 12.04 LTS to 14.04 and switching from xm to xl as
recommended, Xen 4.4 started one qemu-system-i386 process per Linux VM. Before
upgrading, it was different, without qemu.

I also noticed, that xentop prints out zero for all VBD_xx values.
Hint: My Xen-maschines load disk images via samba from an other maschine.

I am a little bit confused, are qemu-system-i386 processes nessassary
for Linux VM?

[Bug 1387594] Re: init: symbol lookup error: /lib/powerpc64le-linux-gnu/libnss_ldap.so.2: undefined symbol: __libc_lock_lock

2014-12-09 Thread Louis Bouchard
debdiff for the SRU on Trusty

** Description changed:

- This bug is specific to the PPC64EL architecture. More details in the
- analysis.
+ [SRU justification]
+ The version of the library in the archive for Utopic and Trusty has been
built prior to a change in glibc that removes an expected symbol. Rebuild of
the libnss-ldap library with the current source package will render the library
unusable and may cause systems to become unbootable.
+
+ [Impact]
+ Without this fix, a rebuild of the libnss-ldap package will cause grave
impact where usage of the libnss-ldap will segfault. Such a segfault during the
boot process will cause the system to become unbootable.
+
+ [Fix]
+ Backport the glibc-2.16.patch that is now merged in Vivid into Utopic and
Trusty. The version of the library in Precise already uses the correct glibc
symbol.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ $ sudo apt-get download libnss-ldap
+ $ mkdir tmp
+ $ dpkg -x libnss-ldap_264-2.2ubuntu4_amd64.deb tmp
+ $ nm -D tmp/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libnss_ldap-2.15.so |grep lock$
+  w __pthread_mutex_lock
+  w __pthread_mutex_unlock
+ #Rebuild the library
+ $ pull-lp-source libnss-ldap trusty
+ $ sbuild -A -d trusty libnss-ldap_264-2.2ubuntu4.dsc
+ $ rm -Rf tmp/*
+ $ dpkg -x libnss-ldap_264-2.2ubuntu4_amd64.deb tmp
+ $ nm -D tmp/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libnss_ldap-2.19.so | grep lock$
+  U __libc_lock_lock
+  U __libc_lock_unlock
+
+ Notice that the libnss-ldap version change (2.15 -> 2.19). With the
+ newly built version, the expected _pthread_mutex_lock|unlock is no
+ longer present.
+
+ [Regression]
+ None expected. This is already present and in use in the upstream version of
the library.
+
+ [Original Description of the problem]
+
+ Unlike previously thought, this bug is _NOT_ specific to the PPC64EL
+ architecture. More details in the analysis.

  Many commands that require the use of libnss-ldap will fail with
  Segmentation Fault. The boot procedure itself can be blocked with the
  following message.

  One potential workaround is to remove the use of ldap from the
  /etc/nsswitch.conf file to at least provide a bootable system.

[Bug 1400745] [NEW] lxc-create -t download and specifying Lucid for release ends w/only IPv6 addr

2014-12-09 Thread brian mullan
Public bug reported:

I don't know if this is considered an LXC bug or a bug in the "download"
rootfs build process but I recently had a need to use a container with a
lucid image.

I created it using:

$ sudo lxc-create -t download -n my_test

[Bug 1387594] Re: init: symbol lookup error: /lib/powerpc64le-linux-gnu/libnss_ldap.so.2: undefined symbol: __libc_lock_lock

2014-12-09 Thread Louis Bouchard
** Description changed:

  [SRU justification]
  The version of the library in the archive for Utopic and Trusty has been
built prior to a change in glibc that removes an expected symbol. Rebuild of
the libnss-ldap library with the current source package will render the library
unusable and may cause systems to become unbootable.

  [Impact]
  Without this fix, a rebuild of the libnss-ldap package will cause grave
impact where usage of the libnss-ldap will segfault. Such a segfault during the
boot process will cause the system to become unbootable.

  [Fix]
  Backport the glibc-2.16.patch that is now merged in Vivid into Utopic and
Trusty. The version of the library in Precise already uses the correct glibc
symbol.

  [Test Case]
+ On a server properly configured for ldap authentication :
+
+ root@trusty-ldapclient:~# getent passwd john
+ john:x:1:5000:John Doe:/home/john:/bin/bash
+
+ The same test on arm64 or ppc64el platform where the libnss-ldap have
+ been rebuilt recently you will get :
+
+ root@trusty-ldapclient:~# getent passwd john
+ Segmentation fault (core dumped)
+
  $ sudo apt-get download libnss-ldap
  $ mkdir tmp
  $ dpkg -x libnss-ldap_264-2.2ubuntu4_amd64.deb tmp
  $ nm -D tmp/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libnss_ldap-2.15.so |grep lock$
-  w __pthread_mutex_lock
-  w __pthread_mutex_unlock
+  w __pthread_mutex_lock
+  w __pthread_mutex_unlock
  #Rebuild the library
  $ pull-lp-source libnss-ldap trusty
  $ sbuild -A -d trusty libnss-ldap_264-2.2ubuntu4.dsc
  $ rm -Rf tmp/*
  $ dpkg -x libnss-ldap_264-2.2ubuntu4_amd64.deb tmp
  $ nm -D tmp/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libnss_ldap-2.19.so | grep lock$
-  U __libc_lock_lock
-  U __libc_lock_unlock
+  U __libc_lock_lock
+  U __libc_lock_unlock

  Notice that the libnss-ldap version change (2.15 -> 2.19). With the
  newly built version, the expected _pthread_mutex_lock|unlock is no
  longer present.

  [Regression]
  None expected. This is already present and in use in the upstream version of
the library.

  [Original Description of the problem]

  Unlike previously thought, this bug is _NOT_ specific to the PPC64EL
  architecture.

[Bug 1400960] [NEW] Problems with a snappy tour

2014-12-09 Thread Tom Vaughan
Public bug reported:

[This was also sent to snappy-de...@lists.ubuntu.com.]

Hi,

I followed the steps in the "Launch Snappy locally with KVM on Linux"
section on http://www.ubuntu.com/cloud/tools/snappy. Then I ran the
steps in the "A snappy tour of Ubuntu Core!" section on
http://www.ubuntu.com/cloud/tools/snappy. Sorry, I don't see a way to
link directly to these sections. I ran into a few problems. Please see
below.

kvm is running just fine, no errors.

This is on a 64-bit version of 14.10. I am running with LUKS encrypted
root partition and an ecryptfs encrypted home directory, if that's
relevant.

Thanks.

-Tom

[Bug 1292234] Re: qcow2 image corruption in trusty (qemu 1.7 and 2.0 candidate)

2014-12-09 Thread Chris J Arges
Serge,
So I was able to just compile my own qemu and test with that.

I did attempt a reverse bisect, and was able to reproduce as early as v1.1 and
also reproduce on master HEAD.
v1.0 was inconclusive because qcow2 format I made with the newer binary seemed
to be incompatible with v1.0; however from Jamies testing this seems to be a
working version; so I'd say somewhere between v1.0.0, v1.1.0 lies the original
change that enabled this issue. As I've been unable to reproduce this without
virsh, reverse bisecting and using older qemu versions is a bit challenging as
machine types change, features virsh wants to use aren't available, etc.

Another interesting thing I tested today was I was able to reproduce
with ext4 with extents disabled; maybe that gives more clues. Just to
make sure I wasn't crazy, mkfs'd the partition to vanilla ext4 and
iterated for most of the afternoon with no failures.

My next steps are going to be enabling verbose output for qcow2, looking
more deeply into what gets corrupted in the file, and turning on host
filesystem debugging.
