unity-control-center makes use of libpwquality to detect password
strength, so that the library is made to main, but translations aren't
imported to launchpad, thus not included anywhere (not in langpack or
package).

Status in “im-config” package in Debian:

  SRU debdiff for trusty:
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/173673094/im-config_trusty-sru_v2.debdiff

  [Impact]

   * Cannot input languages which need IM(ibus, fcitx) in Qt5 apps, e.g.
  webapp-container, webbrowser-app, friends-app, etc.

  [Test Case]
   1. prepare ibus or fcitx environment with CJK(Chinese, Japanese, Korean)
language, for example.
   2. install and launch webbrowser-app
   3. confirm that you cannot enable IM inside webbrowser-app
   4. update im-config packages to -proposed one
   5. logout from desktop session and re-login
   6. confirm that now you can enable IM and input CJK language with ibus or
fcitx.

  [Regression Potential]

   * This patch sets QT_IM_MODULE which might affect Qt4 app behaviour,
both Qt5 and Qt4 app tests are preferred to make sure there is no
regression for both sides. I used webbrowser-app(Qt5) and skype(Qt4)
  before attaching the patch.

launch webapp-container with QT_IM_MODULE variable like the line below.

  $ env QT_IM_MODULE=ibus webapp-container --app-id=Gmailmailgooglecom
  --webapp=XX --enable-back-forward --store-session-cookies

webapp-container looks like QT5 application, im-config needs to care
about QT_IM_MODULE in addition to other *_IM_MODULE variables?

  SRU debdiff for trusty:
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/173673094/im-config_trusty-sru_v2.debdiff

  [Impact]

   * Cannot input languages which need IM(ibus, fcitx) in Qt5 apps, e.g.
  webapp-container, webbrowser-app, friends-app, etc.

  [Test Case]
   1. prepare ibus or fcitx environment with CJK(Chinese, Japanese, Korean)
language, for example.
   2. install and launch webbrowser-app
   3. confirm that you cannot enable IM inside webbrowser-app
   4. update im-config packages to -proposed one
   5. logout from desktop session and re-login
   6. confirm that now you can enable IM and input CJK language with ibus or
fcitx.

  [Regression Potential]

   * This patch sets QT_IM_MODULE which might affect Qt4 app behaviour,
both Qt5 and Qt4 app tests are preferred to make sure there is no
regression for both sides. I used webbrowser-app(Qt5) and skype(Qt4)
  before attaching the patch.

 Hi guys,

Thanks for the heads up. The process to open translations is documented on
 the Release process section on:

 https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuTranslationsCoordinators

Now that I'm back from my break, I've gone ahead and opened translations.
Does any of you guys want to do the announcement, or do you want me to do
 it?

Thanks for the work, I'll try to write an announcement during the weekend.

I think it'd be good if someone else does it, as we need to start
distributing the work and remove any blockers to invite community members
who are willing to, to help with the translation process, but I'm equally
happy to do the announcement myself.

Let me know what you think.

 Thanks!

 Cheers,
 David.

For trusty, I have the following message: Trusty translations are hidden
from everyone but translation admins. Import queue is currently halted for
 Trusty.
I can activate them today, but I have no clue about the implications.

The process won't be so complicated, but better to check with pitti
and desktop guys before making changes on Launchpad? And any member of
U-T-C team would be able to open it and do the announcement.

 Thanks,

[Ubuntu-translations-coordinators] [Bug 1138121] Re: Taiwan is practically a country, but not Province of country | (zh_TW: 「台灣」實際上是一個「國家」,而非「『國家』的一省」)

btw, altering iso-codes from what upstream ships as in your proposal
would not be an acceptable solution, it will make Ubuntu and/or
Canonical in a very risky position in the greater Chinese community.

  Invalid
Status in “software-properties” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
You may remove the zh_TW translation part if you can't handle that
  when modifying the title ;)

  How to reproduce
  ---
1.Open Software Sources in en_US.UTF-8 locale
  2.(Pretend) you are a Taiwanese.
3.Try to choose a mirror in **your country**

  Should see
  ---
  * Taiwan, Republic of China(which is the official name of the **country**)
  * Taiwan(If we want to be less China)

  But see instead
  ---
  Taiwan, Province of China

  Reasons and **current FACTS**
  ---
  * You need a Taiwan Visa instead of China Visa to travel to Taiwan
  * We can't travel to China without a China Visa, so sad :P
  * We have **working** **own** government, and is currently in any way not
controlled by any organization outside the Taiwan island
  * Although we know that ISO 3166 so called standard states Taiwan,
Province of China, a **buggy standard** is **buggy**, and definitely need to
be patched before use.
  * Almost every Taiwanese will be irritated if such bug crawling on their
screen ;)
  * And the real Chinese by country won't be happy either if they tried to
use Ubuntu mirror located outside their country and (may or may not) be blocked
by the great GFW of China.
  * (Just a joke) If we really a province of country, why shouldn't the
mirror list just show country instead?

  Possible fix
  ---
  * Fix iso-codes package to change the offending and incorrect Taiwan,
Province of China to something more neutral like Taiwan
 * Don't stick to the upstream's(ISO 3166-1) version, the country
name(which is from UN) is not part of the standard and is also not correct.
  * Same as #614236's fix, use common name of iso-codes (Taiwan) instead.

  Reference Data
  ---
  * Taiwan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taiwan
Constitutionally, the ROC government has claimed sovereignty over all of
China, in a definition that includes mainland China and Outer Mongolia, as
well as Taiwan,[14] but has not made retaking mainland China a political goal
since 1992.[15] However, the government's stance on defining its political
position largely depends on which political coalition is in charge (See
Politics below). Meanwhile, the PRC also asserts itself to be the sole legal
representation of China and claims Taiwan to be under its sovereignty, denying
the status and existence of ROC as a sovereign state. The PRC has threatened
the use of military force as a response to any formal declaration of Taiwanese
independence, or if it deems peaceful reunification no longer possible.[16]
Relations between Taiwan and China as well as issues of national identity
within the country are important factors in Taiwanese politics and a cause of
social and political division among political parties and their respective
supporters.

2013-03-05 Thread Aron Xu
This is very sensitive stuff. I don't see regulations for software
product, but it does exist in translation and interpretation field for
all kinds of stuff - the term R.O.C is forbidden in similar
situations. If a product mentions the current R.O.C or list HK/TW as
countries, the good will be automatically excluded from being imported
or forbidden to be sold.

well as Taiwan,[14] but has not made retaking mainland China a political goal
since 1992.[15] However, the government's stance on defining its political
position largely depends on which political coalition is in charge (See
Politics below).
Relations between Taiwan and China as well as issues of national identity
within the country are important factors in Taiwanese politics and a cause of
social and political division among political parties and their respective
supporters.

The application is currently a shell script that uses zenity to create

Status in Ubuntu Translations:

Status in “xfonts-wqy” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: fontconfig

  Having 70-yes-bitmaps.conf replacing 70-no-bitmaps.conf in
/etc/fonts/conf.d/ does not make available all bitmap fonts.
  Reproduce:

  1) have 70-yes-bitmaps.conf set;
  2) some bitmap fonts in /usr/share/fonts/X11/misc are then available in
fc-list. Some others are not.

Example of those are available on both xlsfont and fc-list:
  /usr/share/fonts/X11/misc/unifont.pcf.gz in xfonts-unifont package
  xlsfont says

  -gnu-unifont-medium-r-normal--0-0-75-75-c-0-iso10646-1
  -gnu-unifont-medium-r-normal--16-160-75-75-c-80-iso10646-1
  -unifoundry.com-gnu unifont-medium-r-normal--0-0-0-0-p-0-iso10646-1

  fc-list says:

  unifont.pcf:style=Regular
  unifont:style=Medium

Example of those are available on xlsfont but not on fc-list:
  /usr/share/fonts/X11/misc/gb16st.pcf.gz in xfonts-base package.
  xlsfont says:

  -isas-song ti-medium-r-normal--0-0-72-72-c-0-gb2312.1980-0
  -isas-song ti-medium-r-normal--16-160-72-72-c-160-gb2312.1980-0
  -isas-song ti-medium-r-normal--24-240-72-72-c-240-gb2312.1980-0

the font is not in fc-list.

Rationate why we need to make bitmap font available:
  +--
  | It should not happen that the system asks users to use scalable font
instead of bitmap font
  | when there is no scalable font replacement available.
  +--

In the west there are san-serif, serif as main typefaces, each have an
italic typefaces. These can be said of basic typefaces. The four basic
  typefaces in Chinese typography are:

  - Song ti:
  two varients:
low contrast book varient: scalable offered by ttf-arphic-uming
package.
heavy contrast title / strong varient: NO SCALABLE available,
xfonts-base offer a bitmap one: Song Ti
  - Kaiti. scalable offered by ttf-arphic-ukai package.
  - Fangsong ti. NO SCALABLE available, xfonts-base offer a bitmap one.
  - HeiTi. scalable offered by ttf-droid package.

The four-basics all have scalable versions in MS Windows since 95'.

As you can see some basic things only have bitmap version so far, in
Ubuntu packages. It should not be too difficult to make them work.

[Ubuntu-translations-coordinators] [Bug 892386] Re: No shortcut available for forward button for Chinese during installation / oem-config

2012-03-06 Thread Aron Xu
Remove the assignment on ubuntu-l10n-zh-cn and suggestions are not
approved. We never apply workarounds in translations for shortcuts. And
I guess this bug is not zh_CN specified, but is valid for all languages.

As for Back and Quit, I don't think they are caused by bugs in GTK+'s
translation, as in the following PO file:
http://l10n.gnome.org/POT/gtk+.gtk-3-2/gtk+.gtk-3-2.zh_CN.po

#. This is a navigation label as in go back
#: ../gtk/gtkstock.c:353
msgctxt Stock label, navigation
msgid _Back
msgstr 后退(_B)

#: ../gtk/gtkstock.c:413
msgctxt Stock label
msgid _Quit
msgstr 退出(_Q)

The msgids have _B and _Q, which are hints for accelerators, so the
Chinese translations are correct. If we remove the them from
translations then all GTK+ programs will end up with missing
accelerators.

Therefore the bug is in ubiquity, which should add corresponding
shortcuts so all translation teams will know what they should do to the
translations.

[Ubuntu-translations-coordinators] [Bug 876622] Re: Deja-Dup not fully translated into Simplified Chinese

2011-12-13 Thread Aron Xu
Hello Kevin,

Please don't assign the oem task to Ubuntu Simplified Chinese Translators,
reasons:
1) You should read the full conversation of this bug before doing any
assignment.
2) (If you have read everything, then you will find) The bug has been fixed on
translator's part, so this assignment is not appropriate.
3) OEM is not a very high priority item for the community contributors, and
there is already a ubuntu-translations task for the team which we have already
responded and acted.
4) Please don't flood the team members' mailboxes by simply clicking on the web
interface because every of your action will result into an email sent to all
members of the team.

Therefore I'm removing the assignment.

Thanks for your cooperation.

  Binary package hint: im-switch

The im-switch application is not internationalised, and thus is only
  useful for English speakers.

Its main purpose being allowing non-English users to switch between
input methods, it would just make sense for it to have natural
  language support.

The application is currently a shell script that uses zenity to create
a UI dialog. Here [1] is an example of how a zenity shell script can
  be internationalised.

 Hey all,

I'm proposing Andrej Znidarsic [1] for Ubuntu Translations Coordinators
 team membership.

Andrej has expressed interest in helping with the global coordination of
translations, he's very active in leading the Slovenian translation
community and also in the Ubuntu translators list and Planet Ubuntu.

He gets a big +1 from me, what do you guys think?

I don't know him very much, but I always see him discussing at
#ubuntu-translators with great ideas and efforts.

 +1 from me.

Re: [Ubuntu-translations-coordinators] Kubuntu Karmic Doc Strings Updated and POT Files Uploaded to LP

Hi Johnson,

18 pending templates are approved and the other two are disabled.

Best regards,

 Hey everyone,

I just uploaded all of the fixed pot files for Kubuntu karmic
documentation. David is already aware this was going to happen, so I wanted
to let you all know the templates are awaiting authorization in LP [1].

Also, could you do me a favor, so we don't pollute the tarball when I go to
download translations, could you remove the 2 templates from Karmic Docs in
 Translations:

  * kubuntu-docs-index
  * systemdocs

These are either old templates, or some bogus templates accidentally
 uploaded in the past.

There are 18 templates in Karmic for Kubuntu Docs that need approved.
 Thanks!

[Ubuntu-translations-coordinators] Hello

2009-09-14 Thread Aron Xu
Hi collaborators,

Under your patient support, my application is approved, thank you in
advance. I wish to do a good work as well as the team have ever done,
and to make Ubuntu's translations better and better.
I would take some time to get familiar with all facilities on
Launchpad which are new for me to get the work done, soon I will fully
participate in the work.

Cheers,
Aron Xu
