Re: [ubuntu-uk] Backing Up Ubuntu
2009/1/7 Jai Harrison j...@jaiharrison.com: [snip] Also, do tarballs preserve permissions were I ever to need to restore it? Yes, they do. The only small problem you might have is that users are stored using numeric ID. If you're restoring on another machine, or re-create the users manually in a different order before restoring, the IDs might not match. Not a problem if it's the same machine and /etc/passwd /etc/shadow are backed up too. The discussion of venues comes up all the time, so I think we should compile a list of UK venues, so that we know what our options are for different events. Therefore I would appreciate your help in completing this page: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UKTeam/Venues so that we can start to make this process easier by knowing what venues we can use. Secondly, to help everyone plan for the global bug jam it would be useful to know who wishes to come, and what proposed locations there are. Therefore, please also add yourself, and any proposed locations to this page: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UKTeam/GlobalBugJam09 I've contacted the Uni of Westminster, who hold GLLUG (London LUG) meetings as to whether it would be possible to use their rooms. I need some idea of what we would require for the bug jam; I'll add the venue to the list when they've given some indication as to whether they can accomodate us. There's some information available at: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/RunningBugJam#The%20Venue Essentially it seems like power, network and (optionally) a projector are the requirements. And a nearby pub to retire to afterwards :). Iain -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UKTeam/

I have just heard Peter Day's In Business program, and it is totally about free software its past and future. Very concise I thought, and well informed.
