I want to install a Ubuntu in one of the existing partition while not

What I've counter is, when i want to install it, either it will erase all

So how i want to install the Ubuntu in the existing partition either in c

The easiest way is probably to do the first step in Windows.

So, in Windows, move everything you want to keep off D onto C or
something. Then run Disk Manager (assuming you're using XP) - Start |

ok it was just that i was thinking when i did it that i had to type the size

setting it offered and then you could then change it to whatever you wanted.

I'm assuming you are talking about a home DSL router?

I always recommend Netgear DG834G

The wireless is 54Mbs, (they do have a 108mbs model too) and its ADSL
(not cable). If that's what you are looking for, then 40 quid or so will
buy you a solid reliable piece of hardware.

I use Netgear hardware at home and in the office, and have never had a

I don't know of one particularly, but I did some training in business
analysis at work recently and the tutor pointed out a couple of Open Source

If you're doing stuff around that kinda field you might find some of the
following interesting too...

Requirements management tool to help organise system requirements when
planning. OSRMT: http://sourceforge.net/projects/osrmt

UML development platform StarUML (probably more relevant, help model
systems?) : http://staruml.sourceforge.net/en/ (Windows only but I wonder if
it'd run on Wine perhaps?)

if you install gparted, you will be able to see where each partition is, and
you'll be able to remove any partition you wish, it will appear under
 system-administration-Partition editor

He wants to install Ubuntu. To do this, he wants to get rid of his D:
partition. Until he does that, he can't install Parted, so that
suggestion is really not much help, is it?

Steady on there Liam. Keep off the grumpy pills.

It's a valid suggestion. Gparted can be installed onto a running live
cd (as can any other app if you have enough ram to hold it) and then
the disk can be partitioned at will. This is assuming it's not already
installed on the Live CD.

You did not suggest that he boot the LiveCD and run Parted from there,
which would have been rather more use. However, in Linux, it can be
rather hard to tell which drive is C: and which is D:. That is why I
suggested using Windows to remove the partition.

It's not hard at all. You click each drive in turn and the one with
the partition type NTFS is likely to be the one. In addition he has
(as I understand) a C: with Windows installed and an empty (formatted
NTFS) D:. In gparted the C: drive will show up as being partially full
up whereas the D: will be empty.

Cheers,
Al.

I'd second that, I have a DG834G and it works great. They also support
ADSL2+ so even if your current ISP doesn't support up to 24 meg you're
at least future proofed for it. Not sure if they're very well supported
by OpenWRT but if you just want a basic router that has wireless you
can't go wrong with this one.

Don't be so scared of the command line, it's not so hard to learn to use
gnuplot. If you didn't know how to use a GUI application you would have
to spend some time learning, the only difference being with a GUI you
can guess which buttons to press.

So to get you started:
To start gnuplot, just type gnuplot at a terminal, then you'll get a
prompt looking something like this:

G N U P L O T
Version 4.2 patchlevel 3
last modified Mar 2008
System: Linux 2.6.27-11-generic

Copyright (C) 1986 - 1993, 1998, 2004, 2007, 2008

Type `help` to access the on-line reference manual.
The gnuplot FAQ is available from http://www.gnuplot.info/faq/

Send bug reports and suggestions to
http://sourceforge.net/projects/gnuplot

Terminal type set to 'wxt'
gnuplot

To plot a graph of sin(x) here's what you'd type:
gnuplot plot sin(x)

and a graph of sin(x) should pop up in a window.

If you have a file with data in it, as long as they are in columns
gnuplot can plot them easily for you:
gnuplotplot data.txt

where data.txt looks something like:
1 1
2 4
3 9
4 16
5 25

If you have more than one column, you use the using modifier i.e.
gnuplot plot data.txt using 1:3

which tells gnuplot to plot columns 1 and 3 from the data.txt file.

The other important thing to know is how to write something to a file.
First you need to decide what type of file you would like to output,
such as png or postscript. So here are the commands you would type:

gnuplot set terminal png
[This sets the file to be of type png]
gnuplot set output mygraph.png
[This opens the file for writing to it]
gnuplot plot data.txt
[This plots the graph and puts the output into the file]
gnuplot unset output
[This closes the file]

This is all just straight off the top of my head, so it's really not
hard to use once you've played with it a bit. There's plenty of good
information on the web for using gnuplot, but if you find yourself
stuck, don't hesitate to ask. As you might have noticed I quite like
gnuplot and would be willing to help...

Of course you can always type help at the gnuplot command line for
some interactive help.

If you have a SWART2, I can recommend the RouterTech.Org website.
The took the open source code to the TI chipset used in the router and
re-wrote it (several times), the end result is much more stable and
fully feature router... that bringing it back on tpoic runs Linux... :)

Just read the instructions first, and have all the recovery tools
downloaded - just in case...

That said I've been through several versions and not had any trouble...
Good piece of kit...

Hi there, When I am working at a colleague's house, I use my laptop and her
wireless connection- it was BT and the connection was unreliable for her
desk-top and I could not get a connection at all. I now have a new lap-top
and coincidentally she has switched to Tiscali and they sent her a new
router or is it a modem? You would think all would be well? All was well for
a few months and now once again her connection is on and off although it
says there is excellent strength, and I never get a connection- Any ideas?

 Hi all,

I've been having terrible router problems; one is near death,
 and a
back-up I had lying around (SafeCom Swart2) appears to be
 shoddy, not
 saving settings etc.

So it's time to buy a new, reliable router. Can anyone
 reccommend a
 decent, reliable wireless router?

 TIA

 John

Hi there, When I am working at a colleague's house, I use my laptop
and her wireless connection- it was BT and the connection was
unreliable for her desk-top and I could not get a connection at all. I
now have a new lap-top and coincidentally she has switched to Tiscali
and they sent her a new router or is it a modem? You would think all
would be well? All was well for a few months and now once again her
connection is on and off although it says there is excellent strength,
and I never get a connection- Any ideas?
