Have you recently subscribed to any really busy mailing lists? After
subscribing to debian-user, I started to think that no-one was posting
to GLLUG then realised the posts were just being drowned out in the
traffic of debian-user.

I've seen two messages today asking if the list is still active, but
nothing for a couple of days previously.

I would guess that because its summer, children are just ending their
school holidays or starting back at school that people have been quite
busy over the last week or so and not had much time for mailing lists
and queries.

I think most people have just been a little bit busy of late :) been a
while since a new ubuntu has come out so things quiet down before the
storm too ;)
Of course the best way to get people talking is to start a conversation!
find an interesting bit of ubuntu news relating to the uk (or not) post
it and see what people think, have an idea about some sort of event,
post it and see if anyone is interested :)

I'm not sure what the plans are for release party's next month but It
would be interesting to get things going on that front too

I presume you mean this site:
http://www.linuxexpo.org.uk/
which is actually the site for organising the .org village, rather than
the expo itself, which is at:
http://www.linuxworldexpo.co.uk/
or rather, should be at, as it's giving
Address Not Found
and has done for at least a month.

We're probably not profitable enough for IDG, the organisers.

I did moot an alternative notexpo on the Greater London LUG list, but
nothing came of it.

Those of you who are paid a monthly salary have not yet recovered from
working an extra day in February without pay.

2008-03-04 Thread Ian Pascoe
Curiously enough this seems to be world wide as a few lists I'm on have gone
very quiet over the past couple of days and various where are you mails are
popping up.

Personally, I reckon it's all the sons and daughters hiding from their
mothers' over the weekend it kinds of knocks your self esteem to have
your mum asking you questions like did you wash your hands after being to
the toilet? in the biggest stage whisper possible at your favourite eatery
