[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 401820] [NEW] Open Office 3.1 screen redraws are messy
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: openoffice.org I'm getting messy screen redraws on Open Office writer 3.1. Characters shift out of place, paragraphs go out of alignment, deleted words remain on the screen, etc. It happens when I scroll, and also when I delete words and characters. When I minimize then restore the window, the screen is accurate. I had this problem occasionally with previous versions of OO, but with 3.1 it's particularly bad. Since OO 3.0, I have upgraded my video card driver from Nvidia 184.44 to 185.18.14. In other words, with OO 3.0 and Nvidia 184.44 I had occasional problems, with OO 3.1 and Nvidia 185.18.14 I'm having frequent problems. Might be a video driver problem, but I don't think I've had trouble with any other program but Open Office. Any thoughts? I think I've found out what was causing my freezes. During a boot I noticed that something called DKMS loaded fglrx even tho I uninstalled everything fglrx related. I just saw this too, while doing nothing very special, just editing a text file. Public bug reported: After upgrading to karmic my radeon graphic driver works fine. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 306605] Re: Random artifacting on Jaunty x64
I have the same problem with an NVidia on-board chipset GeForce 6150 (Asus N2NPV-VM, latest bios 1401) since upgrading to Ubuntu 9.04 amd64. The problem is apparent, regardless of the used xorg-driver (have xorg- edgers in my apt-sources and tried everything: nouveau, nvidia 180, 173, 96 and even nv!) or regardless of compiz being turned on. I made a few screenshots to illustrate the problem. In the attached screenshots, you can see that apparently refreshing a widgets background fails, so the problem occurs on a widget level and results in the background being drawn partially black with garbage at its edges. The foreground (i.e. text etc.) is always rendered fine. I can trigger the error when e.g. resizing a window or changing the focus (mine follows mouse) back and forth. It does not happen every time, but in about every 20th situation (average), sometimes more frequently. As this occurs in exactly the same way with and without compiz enabled (which fundamentally determines how the screen is rendered - either via GL textures or via pixmaps) and with different drivers including nv, I would agree with last post and would think that the driver is NOT causing the error during hardware rendering but that the error is caused at some X-layer before (some timing-related issues when refreshing a widget's background). ** Attachment added: 3 Screenshots (separated by red lines): Corrupt widget background in Jaunty's X (AMD64) http://launchpadlibrarian.net/29512927/jaunty-xorg-blackwidgetbackground.jpg -- Random artifacting on Jaunty x64 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/306605 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-173 in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 332100] Re: wine fullscreen app makes X server crash on jaunty
I'm not sure how many people my case affects but its not just running wine applications that is a problem. It seems that this bug might be related to a bigger one regarding changing resolutions in general. I have a Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device (still using Jaunty) and I get undesired behavior when I change resolutions in two different cases. First case: If I have no acceleration enabled (in my xorg.conf), when I change resolutions (from my native 1280x768 to something else) I just get a black screen. I know applications are still running because I can hear sounds and still use keyboard shortcuts. I read on some other posts that what I'm experiencing is X unable to sync or vsync. This is also true for wine applications. Second case: If I do have acceleration enabled (UXA), then when I change resolutions, X crashes and I'm brought back to the log in screen. Thus my crash might not have anything to do with wine applications. Like I said, this is the behavior I experience on my computer, and I wonder how many other people experience the same behavior. Hope I was able to shed some light on the bug. Hi Scott, I'm regularly testing the karmic daily build. As of 20090724, the gdm does not load properly and goes to cli, asking for login(development brach). I've filed this under bug#404577. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 353763] Re: [i965gm] Blender is unusable with UXA (UXA bug)
I have been testing this and is not fixed in Karmic yet, but it is fixed upstream (in the sense that blender now is unusable in a new and different way). The upstream bug requires fixes in xorg-server, the intel driver and the kernel, and the xorg-server version currently in Karmic (1.6.1.901 IIRC) does not contain the fix. The xorg-edgers PPA has it (1.6.2). See my comments on bug 401067 (which probably is a duplicate of this one). I would like to report the new problems upstream using the xorg-edgers PPA, but before I got far enough to collect the information I wanted, my computer crashed and my karmic partition got corrupted. So if anyone beats me to it, it would be great.
