[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 401820] [NEW] Open Office 3.1 screen redraws are messy

2009-07-25 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

I'm getting messy screen redraws on Open Office writer 3.1. Characters
shift out of place, paragraphs go out of alignment, deleted words remain
on the screen, etc. It happens when I scroll, and also when I delete
words and characters. When I minimize then restore the window, the
screen is accurate.

I had this problem occasionally with previous versions of OO, but with
3.1 it's particularly bad. Since OO 3.0, I have upgraded my video card
driver from Nvidia 184.44 to 185.18.14. In other words, with OO 3.0 and
Nvidia 184.44 I had occasional problems, with OO 3.1 and Nvidia
185.18.14 I'm having frequent problems.

Might be a video driver problem, but I don't think I've had trouble with
any other program but Open Office.

Any thoughts?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 285603] Re: MASTER: xserver crash, performs poorly, or other severe problem when loading the radeon driver if -fglrx has not been properly removed first

2009-07-25 Thread Adam Niedling
I think I've found out what was causing my freezes. During a boot I
noticed that something called DKMS loaded fglrx even tho I uninstalled
everything fglrx related. Turned out that this DKMS was still loading
fglrx so this might have had something to do with my freezes. I had no
freezes ever since.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 343528] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in EvdevMBEmuBlockHandler()

2009-07-25 Thread Colin Watson
I just saw this too, while doing nothing very special, just editing a
text file. I'm taking the liberty of reassigning this over to xserver-
xorg-input-evdev, which seems to include the function that's crashing.

The text of the function is short enough to paste here:

void EvdevMBEmuBlockHandler(pointer data,
struct timeval **waitTime,
pointer LastSelectMask)
{
InputInfoPtrpInfo = (InputInfoPtr) data;
EvdevPtrpEvdev= (EvdevPtr) pInfo-private;
int ms;

if (pEvdev-emulateMB.pending)
{
ms = pEvdev-emulateMB.expires - GetTimeInMillis ();
if (ms = 0)
ms = 0;
AdjustWaitForDelay (waitTime, ms);
}
}

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 404502] [NEW] [HD 4800] Installed fglrx leads to black screen

2009-07-25 Thread LCID Fire
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to karmic my radeon graphic driver works fine. When I install
fglrx it stops working - the screen turns black and I cannot even switch to a
terminal anymore (seems like a problem with kbm).
Not only does fglrx not work - when it's installed radeon and radeonhd also
don't work anymore (changed via xorg.conf) - the same black screen of death.
After removing fglrx everything is back to normal.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 404509] [NEW] [Karmic] Display mirrored-ish after resume

2009-07-25 Thread Dave Gilbert
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Karmic, 64bit, Intel 945GM, dual head - internal laptop + external LCD, with
external LCD configured to be
vertically above laptop internal.

I'm not sure this is repeatable; I've only seen it once so far

Resumed from hibernate to find screens mirrored; the laptop display appeared to
be at the top of the X virtual
screen space where it should be further down - but the output of xrandr still
showed it in the right position.

With a bit of disabling/renabling of heads I got it back OK.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 306605] Re: Random artifacting on Jaunty x64

2009-07-25 Thread tigerente
I have the same problem with an NVidia on-board chipset GeForce 6150
(Asus N2NPV-VM, latest bios 1401) since upgrading to Ubuntu 9.04 amd64.

The problem is apparent, regardless of the used xorg-driver (have xorg-
edgers in my apt-sources and tried everything: nouveau, nvidia 180, 173,
96 and even nv!) or regardless of compiz being turned on.

I made a few screenshots to illustrate the problem. In the attached
screenshots, you can see that apparently refreshing a widgets background
fails, so the problem occurs on a widget level and results in the
background being drawn partially black with garbage at its edges. The
foreground (i.e. text etc.) is always rendered fine.

I can trigger the error when e.g. resizing a window or changing the
focus (mine follows mouse) back and forth. It does not happen every
time, but in about every 20th situation (average), sometimes more
frequently.

As this occurs in exactly the same way with and without compiz enabled
(which fundamentally determines how the screen is rendered - either via
GL textures or via pixmaps) and with different drivers including nv, I
would agree with last post and would think that the driver is NOT
causing the error during hardware rendering but that the error is caused
at some X-layer before (some timing-related issues when refreshing a
widget's background).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 332100] Re: wine fullscreen app makes X server crash on jaunty

2009-07-25 Thread Robert Toscano
I'm not sure how many people my case affects but its not just running
wine applications that is a problem. It seems that this bug might be
related to a bigger one regarding changing resolutions in general. I
have a Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device (still
using Jaunty) and I get undesired behavior when I change resolutions in
two different cases.

First case: If I have no acceleration enabled (in my xorg.conf), when I
change resolutions (from my native 1280x768 to something else) I just
get a black screen. I know applications are still running because I can
hear sounds and still use keyboard shortcuts. I read on some other posts
that what I'm experiencing is X unable to sync or vsync. This is
also true for wine applications.

Second case: If I do have acceleration enabled (UXA), then when I change
resolutions, X crashes and I'm brought back to the log in screen. Thus
my crash might not have anything to do with wine applications.

Like I said, this is the behavior I experience on my computer, and I
wonder how many other people experience the same behavior.

Hope I was able to shed some light on the bug. A fix for this would be
much appreciated!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 349229] Re: [RV350] system freeze randomly, need hard reset

2009-07-25 Thread Gobnuts
@Raphael

Is your system running fine now? And could you perhaps post the contents
of  your xorg.conf ?

I've got the same video card, running Kubuntu jaunty with latest updates
and experience these freezes all the time. Even when idle, the Xorg uses
20-50% of cpu time. And all of this without running compositing.

I can also confirm that this didn't happen with Intrepid. Everything ran
smoothly _with_ compositing.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 264769] Re: Intrepid - SIS video snow/fuzz

2009-07-25 Thread kendatsuba
Hi everybody.
Same problem here (see attached image): Asus laptop model L400L, VGA compatible
controller: SiS 65x/M650/740.
Unfortunately the proposed fix (adding sisfb to /etc/modules) doesn't help.
However I think I found a working fix for my hardware so please read on.
Comparing Xorg logs generated by Hardy (not affected by this bug) and the ones
from Jaunty (see attachments) I found this important difference in the output:

Hardy:

(--) SIS(0): Video BIOS version 1.15.01 found (old SiS data layout)

Jaunty (this line is also present in every log you posted):

(WW) SIS(0): Could not find/read video BIOS

Inspecting the driver source I discovered that in the transition from
version 0.9.3 to 0.10.1 a substantial amount of code gets bypassed if
Xorg 7.4 is detected. This is so because that piece of code is not
compatible with Xorg 7.4 pci rework
(http://www.x.org/wiki/PciReworkHowto). Let's get straight to point:
that bypassed code is (guess what) part of the bios detection routine:
it is the last attempt made by the driver to load the card bios and gets
called if all previous standard attempts have failed. That was the
problem.

The solution: instead of rewriting the bypassed code I just forced the
driver to read the card bios using one of the aforementioned standard
attempts. Luck was on my side, It worked!

You will find the logs, the patch and the patched i386 deb in a tar.gz
attached to this message. The fix should work with SIS_650 (tested - see
attached image) and SIS_660 (not tested). Could you please test it?

Best regards,
Matteo

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 353763] Re: [i965gm] Blender is unusable with UXA (UXA bug)

2009-07-25 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
I have been testing this and is not fixed in Karmic yet, but it is fixed
upstream (in the sense that blender now is unusable in a new and
different way). The upstream bug requires fixes in xorg-server, the
intel driver and the kernel, and the xorg-server version currently in
Karmic (1.6.1.901 IIRC) does not contain the fix. The xorg-edgers PPA
has it (1.6.2). See my comments on bug 401067 (which probably is a
duplicate of this one).

I would like to report the new problems upstream using the xorg-edgers
PPA, but before I got far enough to collect the information I wanted, my
computer crashed and my karmic partition got corrupted. So if anyone
beats me to it, it would be great. (Don't know when I will have the time
to reinstall)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 378391] Re: Source rename clobbered local changes (so tapping not working in Karmic)

2009-07-25 Thread Tom Wright
Looking in synaptic there has been no upgrade to xserver-xorg-input-
synaptics and changing the options in gpointing-device-settings they
don't work because there is probably a problem caused by the
udev/devicekit/whatever switch. This works in Fedora which switched
first so they may be doing something we are not. This is however
probably a separate bug (the settings never worked in this version).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 315456] Re: Record extension not sending events

2009-07-25 Thread Timothy Alexander
Just an update.

Looking at the upstream comments, it looks like this *may* be fixed in 1.7.
Sounds like the whole system broke between 1.5-1.6, so it's not an easy fix.
However, here a few people are discussing who/when will fix it, if only
briefly...
