If you had the Alt is mapped to Right Win, Super to Menu setting set when

you need to log out and log back in after returning the setting to Default.

That doesn't sound like it's the same bug. For instance, I see this bug

There can be more than one cause for why X would crash on startup, and this one
has most likely been fixed.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 442124] [NEW] Xorg process always at 100% CPU

2009-10-04 Thread Nicola Jelmorini
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I'm using the 9.10 Karmic Beta version from an USB pen in Live mode.
When the session start the Xorg process always use 100% of the CPU. I use a
laptop with nvidia graphic card and 4 core 64 bit intel CPU, and always one of
the CPU is at 100%.

I don't know if this is a problem related only to the open source
drivers, or if the nvidia closed driver will have the same problem,
because I can't upgrade my system right now. I can only try the Live
Session.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 442144] [NEW] Xorg crashes with SIG 11 in FindGlyphRef

2009-10-04 Thread Fuchs
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Dear all,

when using some applications (easiest to reproduce is kmail, when
writing a new mail) X crashes with Signal 11.

Backtrace is:

Backtrace:
0: /usr/bin/X(xorg_backtrace+0x3b) [0x8133e0b]
1: /usr/bin/X(xf86SigHandler+0x55) [0x80c7bd5]

10: /usr/bin/X [0x8071911]
Saw signal 11. Server aborting.

Steps to reproduce: (please note that this doesn't happen always)

- Open Kmail
- Write a new mail

Expected result:

- Window opens, I am able to write a mail

Actual result:

- Xorg crashes and I am back at the login screen

Unfortunately i am not 100% sure which package causes this, whether it
is Xorg, the intel driver or Qt. But my best guess was the intel driver,
as I only saw it on my intel system so far.

Hope you are able to reproduce and fix this.
Just ask if you need further information.

Kind regards

add the appropriate hal-rule (it's not calle IBM...). I assume the

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 442171] [NEW] Black screen in full resolution/maximized window

2009-10-04 Thread bowtiev8
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

When run in maximum resolution (1400 x 1050) the desktop and every
window run in maximized window ends up with a black background. The top
menu field and the bottom line is always visible and I can see any
context in any window fine as long as I keep the window less than a
decided size.

I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 beta with Kernel version 2.6.31-11 generic and
GNOME 2.28.0.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 442144] Re: Xorg crashes with SIG 11 in FindGlyphRef

2009-10-04 Thread Fuchs
Hello Bryce,

I will update the bug report tomorrow, as for today I don't have access
to this system anymore.

As an update in general:

I tried to track down the problem, and as it seems to be font rendering
(glyph cache), I tried a few options there.

The problem is only reproducible when

1) Font Antialiasing is on for Qt/KDE
2) Specific fonts are used (tried: Serif/Sans Serif, which should be an alias
to deja-vu (default)

As soon as I either change fonts (tried with Arial) or disable font
antialiasing I can't reproduce it anymore.

I will reproduce it for you tomorrow and add the output requested.
Please note that in the meantime I updated the intel driver with the
xorg-updates ppa, but the problem stays the same. Just as a sidenote, as
the output will differ from what I wrote in the original report.

Thanks so far, kind regards

Christian

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 442124] Re: Xorg process always at 100% CPU

2009-10-04 Thread Joao
The same is happening to me.
Using Ubuntu 9.10 beta 64bit running on a USB pen drive. My system is an Acer
laptop with a AMD Turion64, 1,5 Gb RAM, ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 128 Mb. Xorg
eats up 100% of CPU since booting throughout the session.
Im almost sure it didnt happen with the alpha6 release.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 376099] Re: xserver crash on closing a window

2009-10-04 Thread Ryba
I'm also experiencing this type of problem. It only started happening to
me in the last couple of months though (when I upgraded from my old
nvidia 7600 GT to the nvidia 9400GT card). I used to use a different
nvidia driver (173 maybe???) but now that wouldn't work and I had to use
the 180 version. Since then I had sparatically noticed silly things most
of which were not reproducable but the computer would suddenly power off
both monitors and then stay frozen or sometimes reboot itself.

I finally found a game that I could start up which would reproduce the
error 100% of the time called Heroes of Newerth (in beta so requires
permission to download the game). The game would startup just fine and
start downloading patches and stuff and then after almost exactly 15
seconds, in the middle of it downloading the entire computer would lock
up and crash just like what I had randomly noticed in the past.
Repeating the process implies that the download wasn't the problem
because it resumes where it left off and finishes up more of the upgrade
process but it keeps crashing after about 15 seconds (after the login
process, doesn't crash at the login screen ever).

I had sometimes noticed that Google Chrome would do the same thing if
you started typing in the address bar. It would suddenly go extremely
slow on its lookups and then power off the computer. These things only
happen on my computers using the 180 (or 185 in karmic cases) computers.
The intel and ati computers have no problems what so ever with anything.
And I don't recall my older video card ever having problems (but it used
the version before 180).

2009-10-04 Thread Philip Muskovac
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command, as it will
automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 442197

This will help us to find and resolve the problem. Bear in mind that you
may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe
repository. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect
permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability
to Change Non-Private data as it will be adding information to your
bug report. Thanks in advance!

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 442251] [NEW] i810 driver not found after newest Karmic updates

2009-10-04 Thread Ilmari Vacklin
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 431955 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/431955

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

After the newest Karmic updates (3.10.2009), Xorg.log has the following:

(II) LoadModule: i810
(WW) Warning, couldn't open module i810
(II) UnloadModule: i810
(EE) Failed to load module i810 (module does not exist, 0)
(II) LoadModule: vesa

I am using Ubuntu Netbook Remix, and I have the appropriate metapackages
installed. xserver-xorg-video-intel is installed. The desktop falls back
to vesa, which is naturally terribly slow.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 442197] Re: Issues with the xserver-xorg-video-intel[?] on an Intel Mobile 945GME.

2009-10-04 Thread Torma László
I think I had the same issue on my Asus Eee PC 701.
I filed a bugreport under linux because downgrading to the previous kernel
solved the issue:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/441577

So these bugs may be duplicates of each other...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 442345] [NEW] nvidia 185.18.36 completely unusable

2009-10-04 Thread srikumar
Public bug reported:

I cant use the new nvidia driver at all. This is on a fresh Karmic beta
64 bit install. I was using version 185.18.14 just fine on jaunty. On
karmic if I load v.185 the screen either becomes garbled or the text-
mode terminal starts flashing before X starts. I have an 8400M GT, and
am currently using version 173.14.20, because I cant use the 180 series
at all.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 395476] Re: nvidia sets HUE to -1000

2009-10-04 Thread Giorgio Stefanoni
I solved the problem by:
 1. Open gstreamer-properties (alt+f2, enter gstreamer-properties)
   2. Change to the video tab
   3. Change the default output plugin to custom
   4. Place the following command in the bottom box: videobalance hue=-1 !
autovideosink
   5. Close the box and enjoy your now correct colour
