[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 371066] Re: xorg key events not registering causing missed keypresses and sticking key repeats

2009-10-21 Thread Rolf Leggewie
Jason, thank you for your update. I believe the most likely candidate
is xorg. Can you report is to the xorg bugtracker at
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/ I hope that way we can grab the attention
of someone who knows enough to troubleshoot this issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 413296] Re: Nvidia binary driver won't build with 2.6.31-rt kernel

2009-10-21 Thread Trulan Martin
To get the latest NVidia-185.18.36 drivers to work on 2.6.31-9-rt, I had
to disable the recently added 'fall_back_on_mtrr_if_no_pat.patch' in
addition to applying Iain's patch posted above. Otherwise X fails to
start.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 456637] Re: Please consider turning powermizer OFF

2009-10-21 Thread Cyberkilla
I have a Sony Vaio VGN-AR41E with an NVidia GeForce 8400M GT graphics
card.

Your problem is almost identical to my own. No driver newer than
185.18.14 will work properly.

The moment I reach the GDM login screen, artefacts appear. The more I
move the mouse cursor, menus, or (especially) drag windows, the more
artefacts occur.

After a moment or two, the computer will freeze, then reboot itself
without my input.

One strange behaviour I found was that I could _prolong_ the length of
time the computer would work by swapping to a TTY for a few seconds, as
soon as I noticed any artefacts. I could then return to an artefact-free
desktop for a moment longer. It would _always_ end up with artefacts and
an eventual freeze/reboot.

What testcase are you looking for? The nvidia dkms package itself?

apparently the script runs a compiler check; I don't know why it fails, can't
reproduce it, but I assume that it tries to compile something which fails. I

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 413296] Re: Nvidia binary driver won't build with 2.6.31-rt kernel

2009-10-21 Thread Iain Bucław
Alberto, that is what I have been using when compiling the drivers
manually for the past 2 months.

As for the debian build, I noticed there was already an nvidia-rt-compat.patch
file in the debian.binary/patches tree.
So I fixed that and added it to the dkms.conf.in file.

Had a try at package building, and it is uploaded here:
https://launchpad.net/~tinivole/+archive/ppa
Running on it now, so I can confirm that it works all OK!

Is there a route I must take to summit it to the main repository?
If not, I attached the _recommended_ patch to this post.

the dkms.conf.in file just has this attached to the bottom of the file:
PATCH[2]=nvidia-rt-compat.patch
PATCH_MATCH[2]=2.6.31

Regards
Iain

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 60448] Re: .xsession_errors file grows out of control saturates disk space

2009-10-21 Thread Martin Pitt
Bárbara Jiménez [2009-10-21 12:52 -]:
Yes, it is GNOME. Why not?

Because with GNOME ~/.xsession-errors is cleaned on every session
startup. So either that's broken for you for some reason, or you just
have run your session for a very long time, or there is some
particular process which spews a lot of messages into it.

Can you please copy it aside (copy it to ~/xsession-errors.old),
log out, back in, and check how big ~/.xsession-errors is? Did it get
appended on or emptied?

If it got emptied, how long have you run your previous session since
the last login from gdm? (suspending/hibernating continues an existing
session)

If the last session isn't that old yet (like only a day old), is there
something in ~/.xsession-errors which got repeated over and over?

Thanks, Martin

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 457306] [NEW] X fails in virtualbox post jaunty-karmic upgrade

2009-10-21 Thread Steve Beattie
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Post jaunty-karmic upgrade, X fails to start (repeatedly, thanks to
gdm). Note that this is subtly different than bug 439551; in that bug, a
zero length xorg.conf was the cause of the failure. Whatever was causing
xorg.conf to get truncated to nothing has been fixed (though X probably
still handles an empty file poorly); in this case there looks to be a
valid xorg.conf (see attached), but X is still failing to start, due to
the vboxvideo module not being found (the guest tools/drivers are not
installed), and not falling back to use VESA.

Removing /etc/X11/xorg.conf entirely, makes everything start working,
I've attached the Xorg.0.log from that as well.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 439551] Re: X fails post jaunty-karmic upgrade in xubuntu/virtualbox

2009-10-21 Thread Steve Beattie
Whatever it was that was causing xorg.conf to get truncated to 0 bytes
has been fixed (though I suspect X still doesn't like that); however,
virtualbox guest upgrades from jaunty to karmic without the virtualbox
guest tools/drivers installed are result in an X server that fails,
despite the existence of a seemingly okay xorg.conf file; see bug 457433
for details. Again, the workaround of removing the xorg.conf entirely
causes X to start successfully.

Looks like the file has been emptied: it was 90 KiB (in 4 hours) and the
new one is 9,6 KiB. The content is also different.
If it got emptied, how long have you run your previous session since
the last login from gdm? (suspending/hibernating continues an existing

The session that generated the huge file lasted about 2 or 3 days. I

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 455954] Re: [K8M800] AntSpotlight screensaver causes system to lock up immediately

2009-10-21 Thread Peter Belew
I disabled the Option NoAccel after finding that scrolling web pages
became very annoying, and so on. Now I have un xorg.conf

Section Device
Identifier Configured Video Device
Driver openchrome
# Option EnableAGPDMA Off
# Option NoAccel true
Option PanelSize 1024x768
EndSection

Also I removed the gl screensaver packages, so that I now have just

gnome-screensaver, screensaver-default-images, xscreensaver-data, and
xscreensaver-data-extra.

If I select 'Sonar', it crashes, the bug popup that occurs eventually
announces that there is an assertion failure in the code, that it
can't report that kind of error, and it closes. It looks like all the
other screensavers in that set are Ok.

Given that fact that I don't have any time, and the RC is just
tomorrow anyway, I won't be able to investigate this any more right
now.

I just saw the PanelSize option - I'll have to try that without some
of the other size options - that might be just the right thing to do
for this panel display.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 409797] Re: [karmic kubuntu] high cpu usage after suspend to ram

2009-10-21 Thread Sam
I can confirm, but only xorg uses high CPU. It makes it impossible to
use the computer, as gnome-screensaver never prompts me to enter my
password. All I see is a blank/black screen (which is my screensaver)
along with a mouse that will move sporadically if I move it. If I press
ctrl+alt+f1 and wait about a minute, I eventually get access, run top,
and see that xorg is using 100% cpu. Nothing else looks abnormal.

I've attached the output of lspci -vvnn

I'm on a lenovo thinkpad w500, on Karmic x64 (beta), but it also
happened in Jaunty.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 213669] Re: [Hardy] Caps Lock causes keys to repeat

2009-10-21 Thread Michael Richardson
My experience (with CAPS-LOCK as an additional CTRL key) is that the CTRL key
stays down.
xkbwatch confirms this. A vt control switch (CTRL+ALT + F4) and then back to X
(ALT+F7) solves my problem.
But, it's very annoying.
I too, experience this in Xemacs mostly, where I hold the CTRL (labelled
CAPSLOCK) down for long periods of time.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 457650] [NEW] Dual monitor not functioning properly

2009-10-21 Thread whoop
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I have a samsung syncmaster which I use as my primary display screen (res.
1680x1050), I have a small Eizo L365 next to my samsung (on the left hand side)
(res 1024x766).
I seem to only be able to configure my monitors via nvidia-settings (which
writes to xorg.conf), so I do that.
I selected TwinView functionality, and set the Eizo Position to left of and
the Samsung to absolute.
When I restart the machine the splash screen is being drawn in the Eizo while
having the screensize (or resolution) of the Samsung. So it (the splashscreen)
starts in the Eizo (which is not able to render it completely -- part of
bottom and part of right are missing), and the splash continues (partially) in
the samsung (the samsung is only partially drawn to, as there is only a
1680-1024 pixelwidth, so nothing more to draw).
So the layout is totally messed up. It's like x switches the screens around for
a moment. When the OS is fully loaded everything flashes back to the way it
should.

This all keeps on working well untill I start a fullscreen app or game... Then
it starts drawing everything wrong again.
It's hard to explain but it's like it makes the secondary monitor the primary
monitor and gives it the screensize of the primary monitor.

This bug does not occur if the Eizo is set to the right hand side (as the
non-primary screen). Everything (even splash) works fine then.
It might just be a bug in the nvidia-setting manager as It does not seem to
keep all the settings stick (the Eizo left of position always resets to
absolute +0+0 for the Eizo and +1024+0 for the Samsung). But in my opinion that
should still work like that so therefore I think it's xorg related.

Please let me know if you require further information...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 378482] Re: [GM45] Dual screen is not properly configured, size and refresh problem (UXA bug)

2009-10-21 Thread PaulReiber
Problem remains, under 9.04, on Dell's E6500 notebook. I'm looking for
solutions and workarounds.

I'll try disabling compiz per tuXzero's recommendation above (thanks,
dude!) and I'll try xrandr as well if needed.

If neither works I'll be back, looking to find whoever's in charge of
testing against karmic so we can get this re-opened and worked on.
