[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 538362] [NEW] [lucid] No X after upgrade to Alpha 3 on ATi Mobility Radeon HD 4500

2010-03-13 Thread Dimitris Kalamaras
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

I just upgrade Ubuntu on my laptop to Lucid Alpha 3. The dist-upgrade
with update-manager went OK.

After the reboot, the Plymouth horizontal progress bar appears at the
bottom of the screeen, it reaches the end and then nothing happens.

My xorg.conf was modified during the upgrade. No fglrx driver was loaded
- I mean that the relevant Driver line in xorg.conf was commented out by
the installer.

I also tried to boot with an empty xorg.conf. Same result.

Xorg.0.log is empty. I am only attaching last 1000 lines of messages
log.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 529191] Re: X freeze - Screen turns black entirely

2010-03-13 Thread useResa
Since there has been several updates since I reported this I like to update the
status.
At the moment I am using the following version of the package (partial output
of aptitude show xserver-xorg-video intel:
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
State: installed
Automatically installed: no
Version: 2:2.9.1-1ubuntu13

At the moment each login will result in a crash report as attached to my
previous post.
I will also try and provide another apport collect so you have the latest
information available.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 441850] Re: AOC 2236vW 1680 by 1050 resolution missing

2010-03-13 Thread David Coggins
I changed this bug to In Progress because my AOC monitor cannot be set
to either 1680 or 1920 in the Monitor applet in lucid with latest
updates. Unfortunately I used the wrong language in my comment. I should
have said I have found a expert only workaround. The intel 915 X code
does NOT determine correct mode settings for the AOC monitor at 1680 and
1920 resolutions at the present time.

Booted with vga=791 kernel parameter. xorg.conf as attached.

Been using this for quite a few hours now. It seems stable, and text
console switching also works; without Driver intel in xorg.conf, X
chose the vesa driver instead. My previous report about text console
badness *does not apply* to the intel driver. I think we're back on
track.

4) The display generally starts fine, but intermittently, after apparently
random times and with random programs running, the display turns off and the
monitor reports no HDMI output. Logging in from another machine, everything
appears to be normal and xrandr reports the same as above. However, there is
no HDMI output to the monitor. This can be fixed by xrandr, using first:

xrandr -d :0 --output DVI-0 --mode 1024x768

which makes the display visible again, in the lower resolution, then

xrandr -d :0 --output DVI-0 --mode 1920x1200

which restores the original display. Things then function normally
until the next random HDMI output failure.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 537853] [NEW] kdm does not start

2010-03-13 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace

2.6.32-16-generic
kde 4.4.1
lucid 64 alpha

After upgrade to 2.6.32-16-generic, boots to blank screen.
Have to ctl + alt + prt scr + k
or boot using recovery and then at prompt sudo kdm start

Similar to bug 437067 on karmic alpha which I reported on bug 437283

However 2.6.32-15-generic boots okay.

Hi Benjamin,

Thanks for including an image to demonstrate the issue. Could you also please
attach the output of `lspci -vvnn` and `dmesg`, and attach your
/var/log/Xorg.0.log or Xorg.0.log.old file from after reproducing this issue.
If you've using a custom /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

Hi flntobi,

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with
the latest development release of Ubuntu? (ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/)

If it remains an issue, could you also attach a new /var/log/Xorg.0.log?
Thanks in advance.

Actually it looks like everything GL related was segfaulting, you can
see that glxinfo segfaults too in the script that checks for texture
from pixmap.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 498464] [NEW] Random X restarts in Karmic

2010-03-13 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

X restarts randomly since I upgraded to 9.10 Karmic. I couldn't find any reason
for this except the flash plugin segfaulting (see the attached
/var/log/messages on Dec 19 at 10:35).
My system is a Dell D630 laptop with a Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960
Integrated Graphics Controller.

Thanks

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 498464] Re: Random X restarts in Karmic

2010-03-13 Thread Monkey
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important
for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn
more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a
bug in xorg.
For future reference you might be interested to know that a lot of applications
have bug reporting functionality built in to them. This can be accessed via the
Report a Problem option in the Help menu for the application with which you are
having an issue. You can learn more about this feature at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 534662] Re: No hardware acceleration on ATI Radeon 3650 HD using 'radeon' driver

** Summary changed:

- No hardware acceleration on ATI Radeon 3560 HD using 'radeon' driver
+ No hardware acceleration on ATI Radeon 3650 HD using 'radeon' driver

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-radeon

On Lucid Lynx, after few updates I completely lost graphics hardware
acceleration. As fglrx won't work with new xorg, I use radeon driver (my
- card is ATI Radeon 3560 HD). I used to have perfect 3d graphic, compiz
+ card is ATI Radeon 3650 HD). I used to have perfect 3d graphic, compiz
and games used to work smoothly, but from some time I can't use any of
them, when I lunch a game it consumes 100% cpu and lags a lot, and when
  I start compiz, it says

compiz (core) - Fatal: Software rendering detected.
compiz (core) - Error: Failed to manage screen: 0
compiz (core) - Fatal: No manageable screens found on display :0.0

so my guess is that the radeon driver is not providing me with 3d hardware
acceleration.
  =
I don't know if it is a significant tip, but I found out that use-count of
module 'radeon' is 0, as lsmod shows.

  Module Size Used by
- radeon738407 0
+ radeon738407 0
  ttm60847 1 radeon
  drm_kms_helper 30742 1 radeon
  drm 198930 3 radeon,ttm,drm_kms_helper
  i2c_algo_bit6024 1 radeon
  ...

I have no idea on what can be wrong. Maybe the problem is somewhere in
my configuration (but I doubt it), maybe it's a bug in radeon driver, or
maybe it's a bug somewhere else.

I hope debug info I provide will be useful.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 424620] Re: X.org doesn't hotplug wacom serial tablets

2010-03-13 Thread madbiologist
The Linux kernel 2.6.34-rc1 may assist in solving this issue. From the
changelog:

commit 67b9946dd07eeef8188e4cab816d2c370bcaa7b2
Author: John Tsiombikas
Date: Thu Feb 25 17:09:08 2010 +0200

USB: pl2303: initial TIOCGSERIAL support

I've got a trivial patch for the pl2303 driver, that's what I needed to
make the wacom serial tablet driver work properly. It uses the
TIOCGSERIAL ioctl to determine if it's talking to a serial device or
not, which I gather is rather common, but the pl2303 driver didn't
implement that ioctl.

Here's a patch, I'm not sure it's absolutely correct, I mostly looked at
other similar usbserial drivers to see what I must do, but it works for
me.

Signed-off-by: John Tsiombikas
Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman

There is a PPA of this kernel at http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 387720] Re: nVidia GeForce2 MX 400 video driver fails in karmic

2010-03-13 Thread QIII
[ 15.612398] nvidia: module license 'NVIDIA' taints kernel.
[ 15.612408] Disabling lock debugging due to kernel taint

The nVidia module is not being inserted into the kernel at boot time.

Also nVidia lists the card as legacy. They are making no more updates
to the driver. Xorg has moved on. It is not likely, as with older
AMD/ATI legacy cards, that this card will work with current and future
versions of Xorg, since it is doubtful that Xorg will spend much effort
in trying to provide backwards compatibility with every possible legacy
card every OEM has ever manufactured.

I have some old Matrox cards in the garage. My guess is that they would
not work.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 538501] [NEW] [Lucid] Xorg crashes when you plug in a monitor

2010-03-13 Thread chewit
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

So I can use Ubuntu from a live CD, I have to unplug my monitor during
boot up and plug it back in again after boot, so the resolution is
correct. This bug is explained here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-
drivers/+bug/527638

I unplug my monitor and boot up lucid, once boot is complete, I plug in
my monitor, but xorg crashes. The screen displays a messed up desktop
(see screenshot). What is very odd, if I hit my power button, it will
successful shut down and even ask to eject my cd!

My computer is a Acer Aspire Revo R3600, with a nVidia ION chip. I am
guessing it will be using the nvidia open source drivers.

I'm sorry I cant give you any more details with config and log files,
but i cant get access to the desktop.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 530887] Re: Wrong display resolution when I login

2010-03-13 Thread tek640
I finally found the solution in the above problem.
I have connected in graphic card my monitor and my tv also, which has different
resolution. In monitor properties I had checked the option same image in all
monitors. When I unchecked this option the resolution settings allow me to
choose the correct resolution and i put my tv right of my monitor.
Everything is fine now.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 534662] Re: No hardware acceleration on ATI Radeon 3650 HD using 'radeon' driver

2010-03-13 Thread Robert Hooker
Indeed swrast is being used and there is no GL acceleration happening.
It looks like radeon is loading way too late in the boot process and not
ready by the time X starts in this particular case.

From Xorg.0.log:
(EE) RADEON(0): [dri] RADEONDRIGetVersion failed because of a version mismatch.
[dri] This chipset requires a kernel module version of 1.17.0,
[dri] but the kernel reports a version of 2.0.0.[dri] If using legacy
modesetting, upgrade your kernel.
[dri] If using kernel modesetting, make sure your module is
[dri] loaded prior to starting X, and that this driver was built
[dri] with support for KMS.
[dri] Disabling DRI.

rafal: Why do you have vesa=356 in your kernel command line? Can you try adding
quiet splash back to your grub boot line and remove that line from it to see if
it's any different when plymouth is involved? If that doesn't work properly,
attempting to boot with radeon.modeset=0 added to the kernel command line to
see if it works properly will provide some good info. Either way the vesa= line
should be removed.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 451518] Re: [i945g] karmic: INFO: task i915/* blocked for more than 120 seconds.

2010-03-13 Thread Wolfgang Griech
I'm seeing this problem too, since I moved from Kubuntu 8.04 to 9.10.
HW: Fujitsu Siemens Lifebook E4010D and a intel 955 GPU, all the latest
patches for xorg and kde loaded, also from PPA. Kernel 2.6.31-20, but
same problems from on -14. KDE 4.4.1, xserver-xorg-video-intel -
2:2.9.01-1. Basically 3 types of graphics errors with different severity
and effects:

the little tabs or hints with detailed info from the task bar don't
always show up at the right place, and don't always get removed right. A
bit annoying, but not too serious. One way to reproduce: left click on
the network manager icon after bootup, the info shows up in the top left
corner of the screen. Right click on the icon, info directly next to it,
left click from from on then on the same. Every other effects alike are
random, couldn't find a way to reproduce.

video from a webcam (Logitech C300) on skype or cheese never worked for
me on 9.10. No streaming of any video data in anyone of the 2 apps, but
mplayer worked fine! I almost gave up on this, but the latest xorg intel
driver update around the frame buffer alignment bug made it happen, and
everything perfectly works now, thx!

the third bug is about the one mentioned everywhere above, a complete
lockup of the screen, randomly, maybe 2 days in a row fine, then 3 times
a day. Always in conjunction with some heavier graphics activities, like
opening some new windows, selecting a bigger text etc., and only a
complete shutdown helps. I'm still not that deep into all the tools, but
after such a lockup we still can get onto the laptop with ssh, and I
think it was ksysguard showing the i915_gem_retire_work_handler status
for the i915 driver. This bug is extremely annoying, and I've lost quite
some work due to it already..

OK, a few days ago I found just by coincidence the 100% killer for my
system, it's Google Earth, the latest downloadable version. Just start,
and within a few seconds my laptop graphics is dead. Perfectly works on
another system with all the same os and graphics versions as on my
laptop, but with a ATI radeon GPU, could verify this today, so it's not
like I thought a bug in Google Earth, but apparently in the graphics
driver.

this other PC also doesn't experience the lockups, and never did so. But
it had this hints location problem too, which disappeared since we've
changed in the BIOS (!!!) the default settings for the graphics card
from PCI to PCIe, which it really is.

sorry if I messed up a little bit here and maybe put too many things
into this thread, but I think most or all of the bugs are clearly
related and come down just to the intel i915 xorg driver.

could anybody with more linux knowledge than me please verify the Google
Earth i915 killer, and publish the appropriate info, or tell me what
exactly to do in order to provide the necessary info.

TIA

2010-03-13 Thread Jeremy Foshee
Hi Gabriel,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try
with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are
available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/lucid.

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a
Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically
gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 325133

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would
be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the
issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once
you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-

deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your
results.

Thanks in advance.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 538377] Re: HD3450 HDMI output intermittently turns off

2010-03-13 Thread Daniel Newman
This Xorg.0.log is from an apparently-normal boot, with the bug as
described above occurring a couple of hours after the boot. The display
was re-enabled using xrandr as described above, then ran normally until
the bug occurred again about an hour later. Re-enabled again, and so
far has run more than 12 hours without the bug re-occurring.

Although in the original bug report I said it was independent of
programs being run, it now seems to me that perhaps it occurs less often
while mplayer is running, but paused. However, this could be coincidence.

 Hi Daniel,

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn` and `dmesg`, and attach your
/var/log/Xorg.0.log (and maybe Xorg.0.log.old) file from after reproducing
this issue. If you're using a custom /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that
 as well.
