[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 562739] [NEW] Ubuntu 10.04 graphics crash when run as guest in VirtualBox
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I installed ubuntu 10.04 as guest os on virtualbox which was running Mac os x 10.6.3 Once installed, I booted into the guest os and installed Guest Additions. Upon successful installation I was told I restart so that the kernel module of guest additions could loaded into the kernel. Upon restart, during the boot, x windows reported that the graphics have failed and gave me an option to run with lower graphics, I choose that mode and my guest additions didn't get installed. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 349341] Re: launchpad xkeyboard-config .pot is obsolete (1.6pre1 whereas binary is 1.8)
Based on some testing (using Crimean Tatar/Turkish and French locales) after installing updates of all core packages today, the same issue we had last year is present this year as well (i'm updating bug title for versions, but not sure whether it's better to open a completely new bug instead). Ideally, a new pot file could be uploaded in launchpad before the 15th, so that all issues in lang-packs could be resolved w/ the build to be performed on the 15th (if translation updates are made after the 15th, translation issues won't be resolved in time for the official 10.4 release). Test strings in Options (there is a dozen others): Make CapsLock an additional Hyper Zero-width non-joiner character at second level The first indicator of the bug having been fixed would be the total count for lang-pack changing from 681 to 694 (assuming no Ubuntu-specific strings added or strings removed): https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/lucid/+source/xkeyboard-config/+pots/xkeyboard-config/fr/+translate ** Summary changed: - launchpad xkeyboard-config .pot is obsolete: 1.4 whereas binary is 1.5 + launchpad xkeyboard-config .pot is obsolete (1.6pre1 whereas binary is 1.8) ** Changed in: xkeyboard-config (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Released = New -- launchpad xkeyboard-config .pot is obsolete (1.6pre1 whereas binary is 1.8) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/349341 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xkeyboard-config in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 351186] Re: [M76] [ubuntu 9.04] [ubuntu 9.10] [ubuntu 10.04] slow unminimizing with ati card and desktop effects enabled
@Bryce #419 I dont think so. @Bryce #420 Full ACK. As i wrote, a patch can't be the final solution. But i think, as the bug is present for over two releases of ubuntu, there must be a semi-official ppa or so one. This means, the ppa has to be promoted in the wiki, faq etc. I know that the people at ATI are working on this problem too. Promoting a ppa give new users the chance to find it quickly and for the maintainers the chance to keep it actual in a simple way. And it were the right place for the good news that it is obsolete. if there are a final solution. Keeping Marks words about the meaning of ubuntu in mind - these words mean to me, give new users a fair chance enjoing ubuntu too. For me it is no big problem aplying the patch and be happy. I dont know how it shows for a first time ubuntu-(linux)-user. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 351186] Re: [M76] [ubuntu 9.04] [ubuntu 9.10] [ubuntu 10.04] slow unminimizing with ati card and desktop effects enabled
I already proposed B (via a special patched xserver version which should replace current xserver when installing fglrx from repositories). I think it's the easier/better solution: No need to worry about potentials regressions on nvidia, intel or whatever else. The patch is ready NOW, this just need an update to fglrx dependencies and the upload of the 'xserver-fglrx-fix' (or whatever name you prefer). For some packaging hero it's surely possible to build the patched xserver from the main source package along with other xserver packages, so the patched version will always be sync with further xserver updates. So AFAIK we basically need 2 updates. If someone can/wants to take care of this, it might not be too late for Lucid... -- [M76] [ubuntu 9.04] [ubuntu 9.10] [ubuntu 10.04] slow unminimizing with ati card and desktop effects enabled https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/351186 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

#422 Nice idea, getting the patched Server in sync, but imho it is not applyable to .deb packages. That's the point i like Arch for: Doing it the Arch way. Make a Sourcepackage, get it, build it, mostly it works. The build system in Arch does this that way. Make a BUILD package and most of the work is done. Then do a makepkg. The makepkg does the folloing: Get the actual sources, get the actual patches, build the actual package. Every thing is done. My way in Ubuntu is: apt-get sources xorg... Patch it manually, make a debuild with the right options, upload it to my ppa. Its a nice idea doing this in time automatic if a new version occurs. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 562872] [NEW] xkeyboard-config needs to create a POT template on build
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xkeyboard-config This is a follow-up to bug 349341 xkeyboard-config needs to create a translation template (POT file) during the build process, so it can be uploaded to Launchpad Translations and translators can do their work. The problem now is that it does not create it and an outdated xkeyboard- config.pot file in the debian directory is uploaded to Launchpad. The solution would be to simply add a 'cd po; intltool-update -p' rule in debian/rules and remove the outdated debian/xkeyboard-config.pot file For more information, see: * https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuDevelopment/Internationalisation/Packaging#Translation%20templates * https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuDevelopment/Internationalisation/RecipeVerifyingTranslationUploads * https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Translations/TranslationLifecycle ** Affects: ubuntu-translations Importance: Low Status: Triaged ** Affects: xkeyboard-config (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: needs-pot-on-build ** Also affects: ubuntu-translations Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: ubuntu-translations Status: New = Triaged ** Tags added: needs-pot-on-build ** Changed in: ubuntu-translations Importance: Undecided = Low -- xkeyboard-config needs to create a POT template on build https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/562872 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xkeyboard-config in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 561094] [NEW] X-Server Crashes on NVidia Graphics
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I try the 10.04 Beta2. During booting it seems that the x-server crashes several times. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 562872] Re: xkeyboard-config needs to create a POT template on build
In the meantime I've manually uploaded an updaed template, which will be imported soon. This will give translators the opportunity to translate the additional strings. See https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/lucid/+source/xkeyboard- config/+imports?field.filter_status=allfield.filter_extension=pot to track the progress of the import. Note that the manual upload is not a permanent solution, since until this bug is fixed, any subsequent package upload will overwrite the manually uploaded one with the outdated one in the package. -- xkeyboard-config needs to create a POT template on build https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/562872 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xkeyboard-config in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 551003] [NEW] HDMI output fails after 10.04 installation
You have been subscribed to a public bug: After the grub splash screen, display output fails over HDMI with a Radeon 5870. Video output over DVI is not affected, as tested by connecting an old monitor to a DVI port instead. This issue affects all display aspects after the grub splash; activating additional TTYs does not enable display output. This continues to occur after selecting an older kernel version; adding flags to grub boot menu has no impact either. This happens via an upgrade from 9.10, as well as a clean install of 10.04 from any of the distributions listed below. The Desktop cd fails to display also, alternate cd can install through text mode, and then experiences the same problem after install. I do not believe there to be actual system breakage; sounds play after the display output fails which show the system is still responsive. I believe this should also be considered a regression, as this issue never occurred on 9.10; it has been a problem with every 10.04 build I have tested (Alpha 1, alpha 2, beta 1 and the daily build listed on 28/03/10). Apologies for not knowing exactly which package causes this, and for my lack of concision. ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Incomplete -- HDMI output fails after 10.04 installation https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/551003 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Chris, with this way of disabling DRI, it would not be possible to re- enable DRI to test a new kernel without replacing the xserver-xorg- video-intel package. Would it be possible/easy to disable it by default, but let Section Device Identifier my-self-configured-device Driver intel Option DRI On EndSection in xorg.conf re-enable it? Bug reporters, it would be nice to have some confirmation that the workaround works as intended. The expected behaviour is that with 2:2.9.1-3ubuntu3, the freezes will stop and the performance (at least 3D and video) will be horrible. While there is a fix in the works upstream for 855GM it looks like it is intended for the drm-intel-next series of kernels, which I think means that it will end up in the 2.6.35 kernel. It should probably also be possible to apply it to 2.6.34, but I'm not sure about 2.6.33 which is effectively what we have in Lucid when it comes to these drivers. -- MASTER: [i855] GPU lockup (apport-crash) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/541511 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 432814] Re: Touchpad: Action for middle and right click is reversed since jaunty
It's very difficult to find a really good title for a bug. In short: We don't use the buttons around a touch-pad. If we want to perform a click, we tap on the pad. The standard configuration until jaunty was, that tapping with two fingers performs a mouse3 click. Unfortunately this changed in karmic and lucid. Now we have to use three fingers in order to perform a mouse3 click, which can't be done by normal humans. I use these multi-touch capabilities very often and it would be great if lucid restores the old behavior. My use cases: * Scroll through websites by using two finger scrolling. * Click at items on the screen by using single-finger tapping. (mouse1) * Open links on websites in new tabs of Firefox by using two-finger tapping. (mouse3) * Open the context menu of an item by tapping on the right lower corner of the touch-pad with one finger. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541511] Re: MASTER: [i855] GPU lockup (apport-crash)
If someone wants to help upstream verify the potential fix on your 855GM hardware, Christian Beier has built a kernel-package with the patches (for Debian, but hopefully it will also work in Lucid). See https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27187#c98 . The feedback they want is dmesg output from running this for a few hours while exercising the system (glxgears, 3D-apps, video, screensavers, x11perf, and whatever you may think of). If the system hangs, the file /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state is interesting (will have to be retrieved by ssh while the system is hung). It is a bit slower than usual due to all the debugging code that is intended to catch any errors. Of course, this will not work with xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.9.1-3ubuntu3, since it disables DRI. The one in my standard PPA should be equivalent to the current Lucid one, except that DRI is not disabled. https://launchpad.net/~gomyhr/+archive/standard -- MASTER: [i855] GPU lockup (apport-crash) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/541511 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541492] Re: MASTER: [i845] GPU lockup (apport-crash) (Should KMS be blacklisted?)
Daniel, do you have the possibility to ssh into the locked up system and grab the output of `dmesg`, the output of `sudo intel_gpu_dump`, /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state, and /var/log/Xorg.0.log. This is so that we can check the nature of the new lockups. Also, you should be commenting on bug 541511 instead of this one, since that is the same symptom as this one on 855GM hardware. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Mactel-support] [Bug 381884] Re: Appletouch touchpad driver produces jumpy two-fingered scrolling
I'm not sure about this. I know that the synaptic driver can use multiple hardware drivers. In my system, I am using appletouch.c which I believe has support for all modern macbook, macbook pros, powerbooks, and ibooks. There are branchings (if statements) in the driver that execute different buffer reading procedures depending on how the trackpad identifies itself. There may be an intermediate driver that could be different though. That would make sense as to why the two finger jumpiness is not present with all macbooks. Thanks Nikos for testing out the jumpy cursor thing. Someone with a bit more experience with reading trackpad input could give some insight into the best way to read sensory data. Right now I think it is just a linear weighting (ie every sensor has equal weight) but I think that the primary sensor that your finger is connecting with should have a higher weighting so that the cursor doesn't jump around as much... but even that doesn't exactly seem right. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 432814] Re: Touchpad: Action for middle and right click is reversed since jaunty
As far as I'm concerned, we have some behaviour that a lot of users don't like, we have a patch to configure the behaviour the way anybody likes (and the patch is the debian patch, so it can be used with no additional issues), the patch is working and — please point our if I'm mistaken here — doesn't break anything being applied. The most sensible thing to do right now is to include this patch in Ubuntu version of gnome-settings-daemon and let people, not g-s-d default, deside for themselves. Whether the current default configuration is good for default or not is the whole other story, after all, Ubuntu is becoming known for controversial default settings — most users don't care about defaults as long as they can tweak things to they liking. As of now, the issue in question is untweakable. We have a patch to make it tweakable. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 381884] Re: Appletouch touchpad driver produces jumpy two-fingered scrolling
I believe that Macbook Pro 4,1 and newer use newer hardware and thus have a different kernel module (bcm5974). The issue is with two-fingered scrolling. The Appletouch features the ability to detect two (or three) touches. OS X uses this feature to enable scrolling, similar to a scrollwheel on a mouse. The synaptics driver causes the simulated scrollwheel to start moving as soon as one places a second finger on the touchpad. That is to say, placing a second finger causes the trackpad driver to deliver scrolling signals, which means that attempts at vertical scrolling feels jumpy, or over sensitive. There was an update to the OS X driver that fixed this situation for Apple. I guess that it detects the second finger and programmatically ignores the first few scrollticks, thereby 'deadening' the output. This is what we need. The synaptics driver allows for some modification, but not for multitouch input. This needs to be fixed at source code level. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 432814] Re: Touchpad: Action for middle and right click is reversed since jaunty
@Sebastien Bacher Windows defaults: - two finger tap, three finger tap: no action (typical version of Synaptics drivers doesn't make use of these, however Synaptics Gestures Suite - if provided by the laptop manufacturer - may add support for three finger tap), - one finger scrolling on side of the touchpad. MacOS defaults: - I believe that it can be configured so that two finger tap acts as right click, but then again Mac mice haven't got a right button anyway, - two finger scrolling. Linux defaults *for years* before Karmic: - two finger tap as middle click, three finger tap as right click, - one finger scrolling on side of the touchpad, - I noticed that two finger scrolling is recently on by default, however it is sometimes hard to properly distinguish between two finger tap and two finger scroll, so I chose to disable scrolling. -- Touchpad: Action for middle and right click is reversed since jaunty https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/432814 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 563020] Re: 2:2.9.1-3Ubuntu3 - Display garbled after resume from suspend/hibernate
Changelog of the latest intel driver package : [Christopher James Halse Rogers] * debian/patches/107_disable_dri_on_845_855.patch: + Disable DRI on i845 and i855 chips. Works around the stability problems these chips have in Lucid (LP: #541492, LP: #541511). This means, no compiz and no 3D-accel at all for this types of chipsets, until the mentioned bugs are otherwise fixed. -- 2:2.9.1-3Ubuntu3 - Display garbled after resume from suspend/hibernate https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/563020 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 432814] Re: Touchpad: Action for middle and right click is reversed since jaunty
To sum things up: the problem (actually a matter of taste) affects gnome-settings-daemon as the synaptics driver already has the desired behaviour (which is overridden by the former).
