[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 582206] Re: Ubuntu crashes and automatically logout

2010-05-21 Thread Mikael Andersson
These two options are still deselected. It seems that the crash only
occurs when I am using Firefox at a certain web site (idg.se). Yesterday
I was able to reproduce the problem quickly, several times when I was
surfing on this web site. Do not know if it could be that this web site
is stressing my system more than other web sites have been using so far.
Now I can see that something is printed on the screen a couple of
seconds after the screen has gone black. Among other things, something
about timidity was printed (see date and time: May 20 18:06:50 in the
log below). Here follow a new excerpt. Anyone seeing anything
suspicious? I should underline that the crash may not have occurred
exactly during this excerpt. I will post a new and hopefully more
precise log during the day.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 583676] [NEW] Resume with two displays gives scrambled pixels on only one display

2010-05-21 Thread Florian Achleitner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

I use two monitor connected via DVI. After suspend to ram and resume,
the picture on only one display gets scrambled and unusable.

Some Facts:
- Everthing runs as expected, but the left display show a picture looking like
every fourth pixel is displayed, and the ones in between have the values of
their neighbor. The picture is updated and flickerfree. I can attach a foto if
it helps..

- Taking a screenshot gives a normal picture.

- Disabling KMS by passing radeon.modeset=0 to the kernel solves the
problem. I attach 2 dmesg outputs of the resume sequence. Note that with
modeset=0 [drm] Resetting GPU is output, while with KMS it is not.

- It occurs only if using the 2 monitors in big desktop mode.

- logging out an back in solves it

- fglrx (i used it until lucid) had the same issue. It was silently
fixed around version 10.2.

- Hibernation doesn't work too. It ends up in gdm after resuming. Maybe
X crashes, but thats another story.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 313514] Re: MASTER: evdev driver ignores keycodes 255

2010-05-21 Thread Roman V. Isaev
I made a quick fix for this problem. It's based on kbd's showkey that
DOES show scancodes. It looks into configuration table and stuffs
required keysyms into X via Xtst package. Ugly, buggy and setuid (to
read console under X you have to be setuid), but it works (at least for
me) and requires only installation of the deb package. Lucid package is
here:

add-apt-repository ppa:rm-isaev/rawkeybind
apt-get update
apt-get install rawkeybind

Source code: http://www.isaev.ru/rawkeybind/

By default zoom up and down are bound to up arrow and down arrow but you
can change it in /etc/rawkeybind.conf

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 554835] Re: [855GM] GPU hang when an application tries to use XVideo

2010-05-21 Thread MarcH
I found the following wiki page useful:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Bugs/Lucidi8xxFreezes

It seems to basically contains the information already posted in this
bug, but presented (in a much clearer way).

I am surprised that this bug is undecided. Maybe I do not understand
the meaning of this field.

I am also surprised that any distribution keeps distributing such new,
totally untested software from Intel. Every time I upgrade Ubuntu it is
becoming more and more difficult to make my laptop usable.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 583245] Re: heavy display corruptions with KMS and x1400

2010-05-21 Thread Max Liebkies
After doing some further investigation, looking into the radeon-driver source
etc I found out that this most likely has something to do with PLL. After
searching for pll quirk (which is what the x1400 needs, imho) I found
similiar bugs which I haven't discovered before:
1. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/509273
2. http://www.mail-archive.com/ubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com/msg2240533.html

So, in a way: Sorry for the duplicate...

I should add that when this happens, my computer almost grinds to a
halt. Everything becomes very slow and it feels unresponsive. Moving the
mouse becomes very slow. CPU utilization seems low in top though.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 583716] [NEW] Some icons appear corrupted with new nouveau driver

2010-05-21 Thread tdn
Public bug reported:

After installing the new Kubuntu 10.04 with nouveau driver, icons
sometimes appear corrupted. I have attached screenshots illustrating the
problems.

PS.
Launchpad says:
libdrm (Ubuntu) guidelines:
Please report bugs against libdrm with this command:
  $ ubuntu-bug -p libdrm

However, it says that -p is depricated and that libdrm does not exist.
Maybe this text should be updated?

One other thing: I have noticed that the graphics card gets much more
hot with nouveau driver than with the nvidia driver. This makes it
practically impossible to use my laptop (Thinkpad T61p) on my lap.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 574576] Re: lucid final hard freeze w/ screen garbling (suspect xorg crash)

2010-05-21 Thread Peter B P
Status update:

Over the past week, I've experienced a hard freeze once more. Active
apps were Firefox, System Monitor, Deluge torrent, and the gnome-
screensaver.

The freeze was triggered just after the gnome-screensaver kicked in, and
i tried wakign the computer from the screensaver again with a mouse
movement, at which point i found it to have been hard frozen, with the
screensaver stuck on the first picture in the slideshow sequence.

I noticed there was still harddisk (and LAN) activity from time to time
due to an active bittorrent in the background.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 412113] Re: gdm[17077]: WARNING: gdm_slave_xioerror_handler : Fatal X error

2010-05-21 Thread Bryce Harrington

@the-analist-3d - thanks for providing that info, but we would like to see it
from the original reporter. We may want to send this bug report upstream, but
upstream has a hard and fast rule that logs from someone other than the
original reporter are not acceptable. The reason for that is that quite often
with X.org bug reports, two people may *think* they have the same issue based
on commonality of symptoms and/or hardware, but in truth they have separate
issues and mixing the report and the files can cause the developers some
confusion.

If this bug report seems not to be getting attention, I would encourage
you to file a new bug report with this data, and simply reference this
bug report in your bug description.

2010-05-21 Thread Dr. Kenobi
Mikael, the screensaver seems not to be related. This unexpected
logout's happen to me using Firefox, but I don't think the bug it's
related to the browser. I think it's because the browser or any
application gets slower and slower, almost freeze. My problem is maybe
cos I have a small swap. Do you have enough memory and swap?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 582206] Re: Ubuntu crashes and automatically logout

Yes, there should be enough memory (1 Gbyte) and swap (1,3 Gbyte).
Right now the memory usage is around 560 Mbyte and swap usage is around
15 Mbyte.

It is probably not Firefox itself, as you are saying, but some resources
it is using, which get stressed. Are you using a 3G connection as well?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 369070] Re: screen blinking when opening display in preference

2010-05-21 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi Rod,

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with
the latest development release of Ubuntu? (ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/)

If it remains an issue, could you also attach a new /var/log/Xorg.0.log?
Thanks in advance.

i am using a HP dv5-1157 and have the same problem, if I disable the touchpad

touchpad - the mouse will move but the clicks are not recognized and the

yeah -- I found it pretty much constant when I had the effects on. Am using
gnome for a bit to see if it makes any difference, it maybe seems to happen
a bit less often, but it still happens :( so it doesn't seem to be purely
down to KDE (kubuntu developers will be pleased to hear (maybe! - sorry if
it makes it worse))

will try to remeber to post kde.log when i switch back to kde for long

I just posted a thread at ubuntuforums.org (before I saw this) in case
anyone wants to follow whatever discussion results there:
 http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=9300254 (that thread also
complains about the hundreds of thousands of lines of output from
kmail/kontact and amarok that are needlessly being thrown into
xsession-errors, which is probably not relevant to the crashing).

 X server crashes randomly

You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber

Status in “xorg-server” package in Ubuntu: New

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: xorg

After upgrade to Lucid, the X server started to crash, however I fail to
detect any pattern. It can occur only after hours of use or quite soon after
logging in, thus I guess it's pretty random.

After the crash, the screen blinks (with black screen and terminal output)
for a few times and then GDM restarts and I'm able to log back in.

Please note that I'm not using a standard Ubuntu kernel due to a problem
I've had since Karmic: in that case, X wouldn't even start. However, even
with a modified kernel, I experienced no problems while using Karmic.

A sample output of .xsession following the crash :
