There isn't enough information provided to do any analysis on this bug.
very slow is a vague symptom, there needs to be something more
specific to go on.

Btw, the mesa devs do not look at the ubuntu bug tracker, so if you want
their attention you need to post to their bug tracker.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 616997] Re: [RV515] Unity keeps reloading with a white background

2010-09-16 Thread Bryce Harrington
If there isn't an error message to look at, then the only way you can
analyze this problem really is via git bisection.

Determine the most recent version of mesa that works for you, and the
oldest version that fails, and then do a bisection search between them
to find what patch causes the breakage.

Says it didn't install because it was already installed and configured.
So not really much indication that something's actually broken in mesa.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 36812] Re: Keyboard layout change on hotkeys press instead of release and do not work well with shortcuts

2010-09-16 Thread Nick Andrik
I believe this bug falls in the papercut category and I have nominated
as such.

It satisfies all the requirements for a papercut:
* A bug, or an unintended problem occurring within an existing piece of
software, (Xorg)
* the presence of which makes a computer more difficult or less pleasant to
use, (international users cannot use the desired shortcuts)
* that is easy to fix, (patch already available)
* that the average user would encounter... (insternational users with
multiple keyboard layouts)
* in a default installation of Latest release of Ubuntu or Kubuntu, Desktop
Edition. (Xorg is installed by default and this bug is already many years old)

Please consider applying Ilya's patch attached in this bug report.

Do you know if will be there a new version of this driver in the final
 version of Ubuntu Maverick?

Em Qua, 2010-09-15 às 21:59 +, Felix Kuehling escreveu:
This happens every time Ubuntu updates their kernel and/or Xorg version
and leaves the old fglrx driver in place that was never designed to work
with those new X.org and kernel versions.

Maybe one way to save users this kind of trouble in the future would be
to add versioned dependencies to fglrx to make it conflict with kernel
or X.org versions newer than what was in the last stable Ubuntu release.
This way, if a user explicitly or implicitly updates their X.org or
kernel to a new major version, they'd be forced to uninstall fglrx
  first.

2010-09-16 Thread mando
The solution proposed by Luiz Carlos works fine (kubuntu lucid).
The nvidia-settings's maintainer should add a dependancy to fix this bug.

Summary :

sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude safe-upgrade
sudo aptitude install python-gtk2
sudo rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf
sudo nvidia-xconfig
sudo nvidia-settings

Cheers,

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 631413] Re: [FFe] Mesa 7.9

2010-09-16 Thread Bryce Harrington
We have a pre-release snapshot of 7.9 in maverick currently, and are
dealing with the resultant bugs. Whether Mesa 7.9 final depends
entirely on whether Mesa releases the final version in time for the
Ubuntu final freeze. I wouldn't hold my breath.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 638808] Re: No unity board but White screen after GDM

2010-09-16 Thread Bryce Harrington
Btw, make sure to restart X (e.g. `sudo service gdm restart` would do
it). I found this resolved the white screen issue, but it is possible
there are subsequent usage issues.

Mark, some further info I've gleaned. The root cause here actually is
not a bug in X, but rather that clutter has been depending on a bug in
mesa which was fixed in mesa 7.9. My bisection work actually just
restored the buggy code that clutter depends on.

The proper fix is to fix Clutter... Specifically
https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/clutter-1.0/+bug/632352
needs to be resolved.

As I understand the bug, Mesa 7.8 would spam event notifications to all
clients regardless of whether they wanted them. Clutter used this to do
its updates. In Mesa 7.9, it changed to only send notices to clients
that registered interest in them. Since clutter doesn't register
interest, it doesn't get updated, so you just see a white screen. The
patch in bug #632352 enables clutter to request these updates. The
fix I uploaded causes mesa to resume its old spammy behavior.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 629516] Re: edid cannot be read on Sony VPCCW2S1E and nouveau fails

2010-09-16 Thread Franck
I have tried the xorg-edgers ppa, where xserver-xorg-video-nouveau is slightly
newer than that of Maverick (1:0.0.16+git20100827 vs git20100805), but it still
fails. I guess the fix comes in the kernel level part of the driver, where
nouveau git is using 2.6.36-rc3.
So I might have to wait for 11.04 to get any chance to see nouveau working on
that laptop... Until then I guess I'll have to stick to NVidia proprietary blob
:(

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 631413] Re: [FFe] Mesa 7.9

2010-09-16 Thread madbiologist
Final freeze is 3 hours and 20 minutes away, according to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MaverickReleaseSchedule

It would be good to make an exception for Mesa 7.9 final, given the pre-
release testing we are currently doing.

2010-09-16 Thread Devang Negandhi
I am facing a similar problem. I bought an ASUS 20 monitor a few days
back and this problem started creeping in on my system. before this, it
wasn't an issue. It happens 4-5 times in an hour for me though. I just
can't get any work done on my laptop :(. The only way out is I have to
hard power-off. Also, i could easily SSH into my system from another
machine. the following is my Xorg log:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 554855] Re: After suspend-resume on a duel screen setup, display settings are set to 'mirror screens'

2010-09-16 Thread Jan Rüegg
Doesn't seem to be fixed for me... I have the exact same problem that is
described at the beginning:

After suspend-resume with an external monitor and a laptop (embedded
intel graphics), display settings are set to 'mirror screens'. The user
must enter the Display preferences and re-configure the screens.

I'm on an up-to-date 10.04 64-bit lucid system.

What I can see, also, is that the screen is set to mirror screens
during suspend, and not resume. I can see on the external monitor that
the resolution changes on the attached second screen when suspending,
and it stays when I resume.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 625239] Re: X starts on wrong tty because gdm starts before nvidia driver is ready

2010-09-16 Thread Jamie Krug
Forgive me if I'm missing something, but based on comments from Martin
and Steve, and Seth's thorough testing reported in comment #159, my
understanding is that I should simply wait for the bug #615549 fix to be
back-ported to Lucid. Is this correct? Should I be updating bug #615549
for Lucid in some way, or will this bug continue as a way to get that
back-port? I don't want to step on toes of developers or other who know
better, but I didn't want to sit here doing nothing if I could help move
this along :) Thanks.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 640059] Re: Maverick Beta update changed screen resolution

2010-09-16 Thread Jake LeMaster
I'm also getting this issue. (1440x900 monitor being incorrectly given
1280x1024 resolution). I filed LP: #638103 as I thought it was a gdm
problem, since I started getting the issue after upgrading gdm a couple
days ago.

gdm (2.30.5-0ubuntu4) maverick; urgency=low

  * debian/gdm.upstart: Do not already fire on a framebuffer device. When a
real DRM driver gets loaded later on, X will be started too early to catch
it. This should go a long way towards fixing LP: #615549
