[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 563387] Re: X Server crashes due probably due to wacom tablet driver
I believe we're also seeing this same bug here, on mythbuntu 10.04 with a Wacom Graphire 3. Over the past week or so we've been getting occasional gdm session crashes which seem to be triggered sometimes when we move the pen into range on the tablet (i.e. we're just about to perform some mouse action such as clicking on something) - not always but sometimes. We have multiple sessions running (using the switch users gui item) and what happens is that the session which is currently in use vanishes, dropping us back to another user's gdm session. The system has previously been running fine with the tablet for months. We did apply some updates recently - linux kernel update, for example (now running 2.6.32-25-generic #44-Ubuntu). I don't yet spot any other updates which might relate to this, but would be grateful for clues. I didn't have apport running so no logs yet sorry - but have started apport now and will post info here next time we manage to crash it. -- X Server crashes due probably due to wacom tablet driver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/563387 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xf86-input-wacom in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 657976] Re: [Intel GMA 945/950] Unity Interface Is Extremely Slow (Ubuntu Netbook 10.10)
For those of you using CLUTTER_VBLANK=none - you shouldn't be too afraid of all the spooky error messages in the terminal. The worst thing it should give you would be some rendering glitches - which is nothing compared to the pain you have now anyway I guess ;-) My initial command to make the CLUTTER_VBLANK permanent didn't work, sorry about that. In stead you can create the required file by hand by executing 'sudo nano -w /etc/X11/Xsession.d/10unity-quirks' and then adding one line to that file 'CLUTTER_VBLANK=none' and save it (Control-X). Then restart your computer. I think there are two different issues at play here. The one discussed for this bug is the CLUTTER_VBLANK issue (which seems to happen on a range of different hardware), the other is probably related to a most elusive (but very big) memory leak we seem to be triggering on some very specific variations of i945 cards - this is bug #652864. While I continue to chase this, I can assure everyone that we are taking very serious measures to assure that something similar doesn't happen for Natty. -- [Intel GMA 945/950] Unity Interface Is Extremely Slow (Ubuntu Netbook 10.10) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/657976 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 658183] Re: Critical: 10.04 - 10.10 blank screen on reboot - checking non-existent battery
I have created xorg.conf with vesa video driver entry (copied from xorg.failsafe). This enables me to boot up for the first time but, of course, still only in low graphics with horribly wrong aspect ratio. Very poor show, 10.10. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 649809] Re: Meerkat (10.10) does not apply theme properly
I have this bug too. I have seen multiple related problems with Core i-7 processors on x-58 MoBos with newer Nvidia cards, posted in other bugs and forums. Sune Bredahl already mentioned his, but also these forum post: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=9971971 http://www.uluga.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1592275 Many people are saying things were fine under 10.04 including myself. I had some random freezes and weird system slow downs under 10.04, but the slow install, slow system, theme errors, and stuttering in video are all new with 10.10. Could there be an underlying issue with the hardware that is causing all of these problems? My hardware worked fine under 10.04 (mostly) and works fine in windows 7. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 649809] Re: Meerkat (10.10) does not apply theme properly
I did notice occasionaly that the interface (compiz effects etc.) were somewhat slower, which I don't think is normal on this class of hardware. It improved somewhat after upgrading to the latest nVidia driver, but it's still not as good as 10.04. There may well be an underlying cause. Meerkat came with new versions of X and Gnome. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 663328] [NEW] Intel® GM45 Express performance drop on maverick
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I own a lenovo T400 laptop with an Intel® GM45 Express gpu card (basically gma4500), and got installed maverick on a clean partition I use to play a game called Heroes of Newerth (native build, not through Wine), and the performance drop is horrible, no characters nor buildings are visible in the game, just the terrain. Also the 3D acceleration generates a lot of artifacts, like black lines and parts of black screen. http://ubuntuone.com/p/LCe/ Can somebody point me to the right direction, what should I upgrade/downgrade to get the 3D support back (as in Lucid)? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 600178] Re: Screen tearing when dragging window, in videos and other large screen redraws
I'm not sure my comment will be relevant, but I've just noticed some tearing *at the top of the screen only* (that's barely noticeable -- in openGL 2D games like SMC for instance), when using nvidia proprietary drivers + compiz. Please note I'm doing the following which usually gives a flawless output but not now as of Ubuntu 10.10 : - Option DynamicTwinView false in /etc/Xorg.conf so that the right refresh rate is given by the driver (I hope nvidia will fix it one day, so that it's not necessary anymore) - nvidia-settings : I tick sync to VBL everywhere - CCSM : I tick : autodetect vsync + sync to VBL This bug was definitely not there *before* Lucid. Was probably there in Lucid though. It's very noticeable in SMC or Steelstorm for instance but not much in regular 3D apps with no 2D scrolling. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 663480] [NEW] ATI proprietary driver (fglrx) does not provide correct EDID data
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: fglrx I ran into this bug when using gnome-color-manager (2.32.0-0, in Pascal de Brujin's PPA). GCM could not correctly detect my screen and gave me an error output when trying to dump EDID data: failed to parse edid. The screen's EDID is correct since get-edid/parse-edid is not affected by this problem and gives correct results. According to GCM's author Richard Hughes : GCM, like the display capplet just reads the X output property EDID (and EDID_DATA for some broken drivers) which is supposed to be a cached copy (by the display driver) to avoid hitting the hardware every time, which is very slow. It's likely the fglrx are not doing the EDID block copy correctly, given that there is only the first 128 byte block present [in the GCM EDID dump]. Using the free driver solves the problem. I'm using Ubuntu 10.10. fglrx version is 2:8.780-ubuntu2. Please tell me if you need additional information. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 651294] Re: X crash on KDM logout (still - yes, really)
I have been trying to debug this and think I found the problem: - The crash is caused when an already freed drawable is used (drawable contents are invalid) - The crashing resource always has xid=0. If I prevent DrawableGone calls when xid=0, the crash does not happen. XID=0 seems strange, as the minimum xid should be SERVER_MINID (=32). Also, walking through clientTable[0]-resources[0] shows we have multiple resources with xid=0, which seems strange as well (i.e. calling FreeResource(0, x) may well remove the wrong resource). - The resources with xid=0 are added via DoCreateGLXDrawable, where pDraw-id is used to add the resource. pDraw-id is 0 in these calls. - The pDraw with xid=0 should be the X pixmap backing the GLX pixmap. This pixmap is created via ProcCompositeNameWindowPixmap. This function indeed creates pixmaps with drawable.id=0. The glxdrawable should be registered with the glxdrawableid and the drawableid of the backing X pixmap, as stated in the comment in DoCreateGLXDrawable. In DoCreateGLXDrawable this would be easy, but drawableGone does not get this pixmaps drawableid as parameter. Therefore in my opinion this could only work if the pixmaps drawableid is properly set, so I changed ProcCompositeNameWindowPixmap to set the pixmaps drawableid to stuff-pixmap (like ProcCreatePixmap would do). With that change I no longer get resources with xid=0 and KDM does not crash anymore when I logout. So far all seems to work fine, but I am not sure if setting the drawable id like this is safe. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 492782] Re: Mouse cursor disappears after restarting screen (xrandr / resume)
Otto - I was getting this problem on KDE and don't have Gnome installed at all, so I don't think it's gnome specific. Admittedly I didn't get it for months and then just got it once a few weeks back. If it's not the desktop environment, and it's not the video driver / hardware, then that suggests to me that it's probably something X / Kernel related. -- Mouse cursor disappears after restarting screen (xrandr / resume) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/492782 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
