[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 655200] Re: Radeon driver + DVI + Syncmaster 2232bw = blank screen

2010-12-09 Thread eltro5000
Hi,
I have a very similar problem,
but I don't get any screen to work via dvi and the radeon driver. (But with
fglrx it works)
The Screen / TV is recognized correctly (the right resolutions are listed), but
I always get a no-singal from the screen.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 656279] Re: NVRM: os_raise_smp_barrier(), invalid context!

2010-12-09 Thread Martin Spacek
I have a Thinkpad W510 with nvidia driver 260.19.26 from xswat, running
in amd64 maverick, stock 2.6.35-23 kernel. Whenever I resumed from
suspend, I mostly noticed the graphics slowdown while (smooth) scrolling
a PDF in evince. A reboot restored graphics performance. After reading
this, as well as seemingly duplicate bug #671932, I went and disabled
hyperthreading in the BIOS. Voila, no more slowdowns after resume!
Haven't tried the 2.6.36 kernel yet (not too sure how) to confirm
Claudio Melis's comment that disabling hyperthreading is no longer
needed with that kernel.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 573101] Re: No video signal after Log out in gnome when multiple users

2010-12-09 Thread MarcelD
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 546578 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/546578

David,
I have to disagree with re-entangling two bugs, which seem to be copycats (i.e.
displaying similar behaviour).

The blackscreen bug #546578 (duplicates #529882, #555298, #555870,
#557779, #570687) appears after a few user switches, which can happen
with only ONE user on the system. For some people the resolution has
been to apply xgamma… The bug has now been related to a fade-out
problem in the gnome-screensaver.

The blackscreen bug #573101 (duplicates #560911, #561538, #573101,
#574909, #577219, #578979, #585685) appears only with MULTIPLE users on
the system. The blackscreen appears after one user logs out, even from a
failsafe xterm session. So a change to gnome-screenssaver CANNOT be a
workaround for bug #573101 (the failsafe session does not run gnome-
screensaver) and is therefore not a duplicate of bug #54678. This bug is
related to the NVidia driver, which stops the active TTY from displaying
the GDM – LoginWindow session (I have confirmed this with SSH). The
x-update solution by Connie is the definite resolution for this bug.

I would suggest to differentiate between bug #54678 and bug #573101 by
marking them as copycats (not an official launchpad option though, but
references can be placed in the bug descriptions). Please confine
yourself of the difference by reading the bug reports and if so change
the duplicates as suggested above (I will not take the liberty myself at
this point).

Regards,
 Marcel

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 688037] [NEW] display turns off after login when on battery

2010-12-09 Thread montag42
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Hello. I have a Sony Vaio computer with Ubuntu Maverick Meerkat. It is
equipped with special keys (Sony Vaio keys) one of which is Display
off and which is functionning correctly and turning off backlight of
display when pressed.

The problem emerges when I'm on battery. Just after the login screen,
the backlight is turned off, just like when I press the display off
button and I cannot turn it on back.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 599463] Re: monitor blind sometimes

2010-12-09 Thread Txutxifel
I think I found a posible solution of this bug. It was a problem with a
S-video. I have disabled in xorg S-video, I don't know if there are
another solution.

I've changed this files:

1 FILE-/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-device.conf
Section Device
  Identifier Default Device

  #Driver radeon

  ## Required magic for radeon/radeonhd drivers; output name
  ## (here: DVI-0) can be figured out via 'xrandr -q'
  #Option monitor-DVI-0 Default Monitor
Option monitor-S-video monitor-S-video
EndSection

2º FILE-/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-monitor.conf (ADDED AT THE END)

Section Monitor
Identifier monitor-S-video
Option Ignore true
EndSection

Now, xrand not detect S-video and I have no problems with blinks

I hope it help yours

I'm sorry for my english!!!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 573101] Re: No video signal after Log out in gnome when multiple users

2010-12-09 Thread MarcelD
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 546578 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/546578

It seems patching with xgamma and gnome-screensaver is indeed a
workaround for a problem in the ATI driver. This is what I conclude
after reading more bug reports. I cannot be sure as I do not experience
this bug #546578. I do know from experience that it is not a workaround
for the NVIDIA driver bug #573101, which appears after user logout with
multiple users on the system (as described above).

  To reproduce:

  1) Choose another user in your FUSA menu.
  2) After logging in to that users account, log off.

Expected results: I expect to see GDM
Actual results: I have a black screen

Note: I can still press enter and type my password to log in. I knew
this worked from the sound of my hard-drive. To be certain, on a
subsequent test, I did ALT+F2 and ran touch testfile. After a reboot,
there was a file called 'testfile' in my home directory. But all this
was performed with a black screen.

  Hello!

I have installed Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Desktop (lucid) from scratch.
Then I've made 2 users. Then I login as one user and switch to the second
user using gnome menu (not gdm). (New feature in lucid).
When I do Log Out from the second user - video signal disappears and I'm
not able to use neither X nor tty to do something with the system.
I have Nvidia driver (version 173.14.22) turned on. When I turn it off and do
the steps described above - video signal remains, but when I return to the
screen of the first user - the brightness of the screen goes very low. (Fade
bug in Gnome?) And sometimes I even get black screen with lonely mouse. (The
screen is not unfaded).

Maybe there are two different bugs? With nvidia driver (when screen is
reset). And with gnome unfading when unlocking the screen.

  Best regards, Vladimir

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585685] Re: Logout after switch user causes black screen and disables keyboard and mouse

2010-12-09 Thread MarcelD
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 546578 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/546578

** Description changed:

- [Copycat - A blackscreen can also appear due to a bug in the Gnome
- screensaver. (goto bug #546578)]
+ [Copycat - A blackscreen can also appear due to a bug in the ATI driver
+ - workaround involving gnome-screensaver. (goto bug #546578)]

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. While logged in as user A, System|Log Out username|Switch User
  2. Login to user B, ensure all is working properly and logout from user B.
  - screen goes black
  - keyboard no longer works
  - mouse no longer works

  100% reproduceable.

  However, I can:
  1. ssh -X into the machine w/o issue. I can bring up gui's from the affected
machine (i.e., gnome-system-log, vino-preferences, etc).
  2. remote login to the machine via VNC and get a screen; however I then get
multiple tserver instances have to kill it. Remote login to the machine using
NX w/o issue.
  3. reboot the machine from the remote ssh.

  Attempts to resolve:

- 1. Ensured that the problem exists with enhanced graphics turned off
(System|Preferences|Appearance|Visual Effects|None)
+ 1. Ensured that the problem exists with enhanced graphics turned off
(System|Preferences|Appearance|Visual Effects|None)
  2. Ensured that the problem wasn't related to gnome-screensaver as per
similar reports (purged gnome-screensaver, installed gnome-screensaver
2.30.0-0ubuntu2 etc).

  Workaround:
Remove nvidia-96 and reboot. All switching between users then works properly.
Reinstall nvidia-96 and the problem occurs.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 662998] Re: System freezes when running on battery

2010-12-09 Thread Dominic
Yes, 605967 looks similar, but the original post was for Ubuntu 10.04,
which never froze on my system, even after I gave up on 10.10 and
reinstalled Lucid.

There is a bunch of other testimonials on the forum:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1595196

One thing that has not been mentioned in this thread: the magic key
sequences to reboot Linux don't work either.

On my system, I tried disabling the wireless, and I thought it was
fixed, but just as I was typing my findings (on Ethernet), it froze
again...

3) What is expected to happen is that when one slides their finger in an
upward motion on the right hand side of the laptop touchpad, it does not
spontaneously paste.

4) What happened instead in gedit, Firefox, and OpenOffice Calc is while
scrolling upwards with the touchpad, it pastes without my fingers being
on the keyboard at all, nor have I set any hotkey or special mouse
control to do so. It just happened in this box while typing out this
bug. It happens intermittently but often enough to be highly annoying
and buggable.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 688153] [NEW] Kwin OpenGL Compositing + mplayer (-vo gl) fullscreen - kwin crash (30% chance)

2010-12-09 Thread Gautham
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

The Admin over at KDE Bugs was sure this is a driver issue. So, posting
it here.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=259287

See the related bug too.

Application: kwin (4.5.1 (KDE 4.5.1))
KDE Platform Version: 4.5.1 (KDE 4.5.1)
Qt Version: 4.7.0
Operating System: Linux 2.6.35-23-generic x86_64
Distribution: Ubuntu 10.10

-- Information about the crash:
- What I was doing when the application crashed:
After enabling OpenGL compositing on the kubuntu desktop, I played an hd movie
on commandline mplayer which starts by default on fullscreen. The output mode
was gl.

kwin crashed immediately. This occurs about 30% of my fullscreen movie
playbacks only when compositing is enabled and only using opengl compositing
(as opposed to xrender: a reasonable number of attempts with no crashes)

There appears to be no crash using the xv output of mplayer either.

- Custom settings of the application:
No compositing effects were turned on (except a few that activated during
login/logout)

Running on Core i3 with latest drivers from ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates

The crash can be reproduced some of the time.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 683648] [NEW] i915 driver is in really bad shape in Maverick

2010-12-09 Thread Bryce Harrington
Since maverick is released, we're not doing further development on it,
however for serious issues sometimes patches are accepted.

So, if you'd like to help improve the state of i915 in maverick, please
look through the upstream changes and propose patches that you think
would make i915 better.

Note we also have updated drivers available in the x-updates PPA.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 688200] [NEW] nvidia-settings--system lock

2010-12-09 Thread Coz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nvidia-settings

Hey guys,
  ubuntu natty 11.04
nvidia settings

When openening nvidia-settings.. and x server configuration... nvidia-
settings freezes... system is nearly frozen ..hard driver and cpu at max

this is the read out from terminal;

Gdk-ERROR **: The program 'nvidia-settings' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 1501 error_code 11 request_code 53 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
aborting...
Trace/breakpoint trap

coz
