[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 685682] Re: [fglrx] compiz crashed with SIGSEGV in nux::IOpenGLSurface::UnlockRect()

2011-02-11 Thread sunny
AMD OpenGL driver doesn’t support GL_EXT_stencil_two_side, but compiz
attempts to call to glActiveStencilFaceEXT which cuases segmentation
fault, because the API glActiveStencilFaceEXT deosn't exit.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 716595] Re: Apport hook prompts 3 times for password

2011-02-11 Thread Bryce Harrington
Unfortunately, in looking into this it's not easy to fix, at least not
in the apport hook itself.

The code in question is:
report['GdmLog']  = root_collect_file_contents('/var/log/gdm/:0.log')
report['GdmLog1'] = root_collect_file_contents('/var/log/gdm/:0.log.1')
report['GdmLog2'] = root_collect_file_contents('/var/log/gdm/:0.log.2')

Each of the root_collect_file_contents() calls essentially calls and
return root_command_output(['cat', path]). root_command_output() is one
of the stock apport lib routines.

So the question is, why isn't root_command_output() caching the sudo
permission from one call to the next?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 717164] [NEW] Compiz crashes with experimental Nouveau DRI 3D support

2011-02-11 Thread Sense Hofstede
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 710588 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/710588

Public bug reported:

I enabled Experimental 3D support for NVIDIA cards from Jockey, which
installed the library 'libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental'.

This does make the Nouveau driver pass the 3D support test, but Compiz
segfaults when it tries to start itself. The relevant line from the terminal
output seems to be:
compiz: nv50_pc_emit.c:863: emit_flop: Controletest 'STYPE(i, 0) == 0x09'
faalt.
'Controletest' is 'Control test', 'faalt' means 'fails'.

My graphics card has an Nvidia Geforce 9600GT chip. Natty is up-to-date.

I can confirm this bug on an up-to-date installation of natty—I just marked my
own bug #717164 a duplicate of this—with a PCI-E Nvidia Geforce 9600GT (the
Asus EN9600GT).
The assertion error is exactly the same for me.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 717268] [NEW] Color depth set too low

2011-02-11 Thread Ingo Gerth
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Since recently, the color depth on my EEE PC netbook is set to a too low
value in Natty. As there is no GUI tool to change that, this can become
a major issue for the end user. You have to picture how ugly it really
is. All gradients, such as that one in the exposé view (Super+E) is
really graded and not smooth at all. A prospective user would just find
Ubuntu very ugly and revert to his previous OS.

Hopefully it is visible on the attached screenshot. I would like to
propose high priority for this.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 713864] Re: Black screen with nouveau on a GeForce 8600M GT, either LiveCD or fresh install

2011-02-11 Thread Mathieu Marquer
I still get a black screen when removing quiet splah and adding
vesafb.anything=1 as kernel parameters. Xorg.log is attached, 29.900 is
when I Ctrl+Alt+F1 to see if that works on the tty (and it doesn't work
either). The screen is turned on but black, it's not off.

Note that it kind of works when nVidia proprietary drivers are installed
or when I use nomodeset (it actually uses Vesa instead of Nouveau, log
attached as well).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 669535] Re: desktop mysteriously freezes until keyboard or mouse input

2011-02-11 Thread Jacek Kolodziej
Same issue on my side. Just bought a new laptop: Lenovo G550, installed
Ubuntu 10.10 and am facing issue as above: while it is not all the
times, it very often (50% of time?) runs into mode where until I move
mouse or press a key the computer completely freezes (does completely
nothing, e.g. flash animation on the web stops, or screensaver demo). It
does things in the background only as long as I am moving the mouse.

Interesting: this laptop model is known for its issues with touchpad. In
my case, when I use touchpad, every few minutes touchpad stops working
for approx 5 seconds and then it works again.

Visual effects linkage: not sure if any. E.g. I was using normal
visual effects mode when the system freezing started. When switched to
no visual effects in Ubuntu, the freezing continued.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 598122] Re: package nvidia-current-195.36.15 0ubuntu3 failed to install / upgrade: archive file system corrupt - corrupted package archive

2011-02-11 Thread Charlie Kravetz
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error caused by a corrupted
archive. Please execute the following commands, as it will clear your
package cache, in a terminal ( Applications - Accessories - Terminal )
:

sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue. If so please set the bug's status to Invalid. Thanks in advance!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 709486] Re: package nvidia-current 195.36.24-0ubuntu1~10.04 failed to install/upgrade: corrupted filesystem tarfile - corrupted package archive

2011-02-11 Thread Charlie Kravetz
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error caused by a corrupted
archive. Please execute the following commands, as it will clear your
package cache, in a terminal ( Applications - Accessories - Terminal )
:

sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update

Then try performing the update again. This may resolve your issue.

If the above fails to resolve this issue, since according to the actual
log files, the error is different than this report states, you have a
corrupted file system. Please start the Memory check from the boot
menu. If that runs successfully, please start the desktop cd. Hold
right-shift key after the bios checks to get to the grub menu and run
Check disc for errors option. If the file system corruption is
serious, the safest option would be to reinstall your system.

Thanks in advance!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 683323] Re: X11 crashes at startup

2011-02-11 Thread Radu C
Installed 2.6.36 and it didn't fix the problem for me. But in my case
this is because I have a manual addition to xorg.conf:

Section InputDevice
Identifier TouchAsusET2002T
Driver evtouch
Option device /dev/input/evtouch-AsusET2002T
Option MinX 180
Option MinY 0
Option MaxX 8192
Option MaxY 8192
Option ReportingMode Raw
Option Emulate3Buttons false
Option Emulate3Timeout 50
Option SendCoreEvents on
Option MoveLimit 180
EndSection

And it's the fact that /dev/input/evtouch-AsusET2002T doesn't exist at
all (sometime in the past I had udev rules creating it, but not now).
Without this section X starts, and I don't get this:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 711954] Re: Cannot use external monitor at its native resolution

2011-02-11 Thread Bryce Harrington
[ 328.760] (II) intel(0): Modeline 1680x1050x60.0 146.25 1680 1784
1960 2240 1050 1053 1059 1089 -hsync +vsync (65.3 kHz)

Likely a bug in the kernel's kms code, probably hardware-specific, but
I'll leave against -intel and see if I can give you a hand narrowing
this down a bit. What was the last version of natty that worked? Can
you try booting the .37 kernel and see whether it reproduces with that?

Once you can identify a working version of the kernel, then you can git
bisect down to the patch that caused the problem, and we can go from
there.

My guess is that something changed in how the modeline is generated for
that monitor by the kernel (or maybe monitors in general, but your
monitor is hit due to being an edge case).

If you're looking for workarounds, you might try nomodeset to turn off
the kernel's resolution magic, and see if X can do it better on its own.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 712212] Re: Natty USB Live install failed, Xorg message flashed on screen

2011-02-11 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi Jerry,

The date on this bug report looks like when we were right in the middle
of switching to xserver 1.10. There were a spate of issues people ran
into during that period which have since been straightened out.

Could you try reproducing this bug using a live build from today (or
newer)?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 715330] Re: Freeze after login with KMS enabled on Radeon HD6310

2011-02-11 Thread Bryce Harrington
Reproduce the issue, log in, and with the system frozen collect the
output of dmesg, your /var/log/Xorg.0.log, and your /var/log/kern.log.

Also, avivotool can be used to assist in debugging this issue.
avivotool is provided with the radeontool package, so to install it run:

sudo apt-get install radeontool

After installing it, you run it like this:

avivotool regs all regdump_good.txt
avivotool regs all regdump_broke.txt

Run it two times. Once when you have a working screen, and once in the
broken case (either from the tty console or logged into the sick box
remotely). Attach both of those to this bug report.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 714937] Re: Natty:Xorg uses 100% CPU

2011-02-11 Thread Bryce Harrington
** Description changed:

It seems that Xorg will eventually lock up, using 100% CPU and not updating
the screen, after the computer is running for a couple of hours. The only way
to get out of it is kill Xorg with a signal 9.
I'm using the Nvidia Experimental 3D drivers from Jockey.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 714937] Re: GPU lockup (EQ overflow) with nouveau experimental 3D drivers

2011-02-11 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi Erik,

I hate to say this but we don't provide development support for the 3D
nouveau drivers in Ubuntu. I would redirect you to upstream, but they
don't accept bug reports about the 3D drivers either (in fact, this is
the primary reason we have not yet enabled it.)

So, if the drivers work for you that's great, if they don't, I'm afraid
that's the end of the line. The next action would be to hack on the
driver and send patches upstream, if you're technically inclined and
have some time.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 714780] Re: [Natty Alpha-2] segfault in libexa module

2011-02-11 Thread Bryce Harrington
No, I've been seeing invalid frame buffer messages in a lot of logs
(including my own). I need to look into that at some point but I
suspect it's a red herring.

Are you able to reproduce this issue easily enough? If so, please
collect a full backtrace - see http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing for
directions. I haven't seen other crashes matching this signature (or
conditions), and unfortunately the trace you posted doesn't show
symbols.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 716467] Re: package nvidia-current 195.36.24-0ubuntu1~10.04 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2011-02-11 Thread Charlie Kravetz
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error caused by a corrupted
archive. Please execute the following commands, as it will clear your
package cache, in a terminal ( Applications - Accessories - Terminal
):

sudo dpkg --configure -a

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue. If so please set the bug's status to Invalid. Thanks in advance!

This got filed against libdrm, however the backtrace does not provide
symbol information for the libdrm calls so it's hard to discern if it is
indeed libdrm faulting, and if so what happened.

Are you able to reproduce this issue easily? If so, please collect a

directions. If not, could you describe the conditions under which the
crash tends to occur?

Weird that i did my full update it removed the nvidia driver and the
nouveau driver doesn't work for kdm or gdm. So i guess i need to either
downgrade some packages or wait for nvidia to release a new driver.
