[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 685682] Re: [fglrx] compiz crashed with SIGSEGV in nux::IOpenGLSurface::UnlockRect()

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 716595] Re: Apport hook prompts 3 times for password
Unfortunately, in looking into this it's not easy to fix, at least not in the apport hook itself. The code in question is: report['GdmLog'] = root_collect_file_contents('/var/log/gdm/:0.log') report['GdmLog1'] = root_collect_file_contents('/var/log/gdm/:0.log.1') report['GdmLog2'] = root_collect_file_contents('/var/log/gdm/:0.log.2') Each of the root_collect_file_contents() calls essentially calls and return root_command_output(['cat', path]). root_command_output() is one of the stock apport lib routines. So the question is, why isn't root_command_output() caching the sudo permission from one call to the next? ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: New = Triaged ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Medium -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/716595 Title: Apport hook prompts 3 times for password ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 717268] [NEW] Color depth set too low
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Since recently, the color depth on my EEE PC netbook is set to a too low value in Natty. As there is no GUI tool to change that, this can become a major issue for the end user. You have to picture how ugly it really is. All gradients, such as that one in the exposé view (Super+E) is really graded and not smooth at all. A prospective user would just find Ubuntu very ugly and revert to his previous OS. Hopefully it is visible on the attached screenshot. I would like to propose high priority for this. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 713864] Re: Black screen with nouveau on a GeForce 8600M GT, either LiveCD or fresh install
I still get a black screen when removing quiet splah and adding vesafb.anything=1 as kernel parameters. Xorg.log is attached, 29.900 is when I Ctrl+Alt+F1 to see if that works on the tty (and it doesn't work either). The screen is turned on but black, it's not off. Note that it kind of works when nVidia proprietary drivers are installed or when I use nomodeset (it actually uses Vesa instead of Nouveau, log attached as well). ** Attachment added: Xorg.log using nomodeset (actually using Vesa) https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/713864/+attachment/1843697/+files/Xorg.0.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/713864 Title: Black screen with nouveau on a GeForce 8600M GT, either LiveCD or fresh install ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 669535] Re: desktop mysteriously freezes until keyboard or mouse input
Same issue on my side. Just bought a new laptop: Lenovo G550, installed Ubuntu 10.10 and am facing issue as above: while it is not all the times, it very often (50% of time?) runs into mode where until I move mouse or press a key the computer completely freezes (does completely nothing, e.g. flash animation on the web stops, or screensaver demo). It does things in the background only as long as I am moving the mouse. Interesting: this laptop model is known for its issues with touchpad. In my case, when I use touchpad, every few minutes touchpad stops working for approx 5 seconds and then it works again. Visual effects linkage: not sure if any. E.g. I was using normal visual effects mode when the system freezing started. When switched to no visual effects in Ubuntu, the freezing continued. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/669535 Title: desktop mysteriously freezes until keyboard or mouse input ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Please execute the following commands, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal ( Applications - Accessories - Terminal ) : sudo apt-get clean sudo apt-get update Then try performing the update again. This may resolve your issue. If the above fails to resolve this issue, since according to the actual log files, the error is different than this report states, you have a corrupted file system. Please start the Memory check from the boot menu. If that runs successfully, please start the desktop cd. Hold right-shift key after the bios checks to get to the grub menu and run Check disc for errors option. If the file system corruption is serious, the safest option would be to reinstall your system. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 711954] Re: Cannot use external monitor at its native resolution
[ 328.760] (II) intel(0): Modeline 1680x1050x60.0 146.25 1680 1784 1960 2240 1050 1053 1059 1089 -hsync +vsync (65.3 kHz) Likely a bug in the kernel's kms code, probably hardware-specific, but I'll leave against -intel and see if I can give you a hand narrowing this down a bit. What was the last version of natty that worked? Can you try booting the .37 kernel and see whether it reproduces with that? Once you can identify a working version of the kernel, then you can git bisect down to the patch that caused the problem, and we can go from there. My guess is that something changed in how the modeline is generated for that monitor by the kernel (or maybe monitors in general, but your monitor is hit due to being an edge case). If you're looking for workarounds, you might try nomodeset to turn off the kernel's resolution magic, and see if X can do it better on its own. ** Package changed: xorg-server (Ubuntu) = xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/711954 Title: Cannot use external monitor at its native resolution ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 715330] Re: Freeze after login with KMS enabled on Radeon HD6310
Reproduce the issue, log in, and with the system frozen collect the output of dmesg, your /var/log/Xorg.0.log, and your /var/log/kern.log. Also, avivotool can be used to assist in debugging this issue. avivotool is provided with the radeontool package, so to install it run: sudo apt-get install radeontool After installing it, you run it like this: avivotool regs all regdump_good.txt avivotool regs all regdump_broke.txt Run it two times. Once when you have a working screen, and once in the broken case (either from the tty console or logged into the sick box remotely). Attach both of those to this bug report. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/715330 Title: Freeze after login with KMS enabled on Radeon HD6310 ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 714937] Re: GPU lockup (EQ overflow) with nouveau experimental 3D drivers
Hi Erik, I hate to say this but we don't provide development support for the 3D nouveau drivers in Ubuntu. I would redirect you to upstream, but they don't accept bug reports about the 3D drivers either (in fact, this is the primary reason we have not yet enabled it.) So, if the drivers work for you that's great, if they don't, I'm afraid that's the end of the line. The next action would be to hack on the driver and send patches upstream, if you're technically inclined and have some time. ** Package changed: xorg-server (Ubuntu) = mesa (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: mesa (Ubuntu) Status: New = Won't Fix -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/714937 Title: GPU lockup (EQ overflow) with nouveau experimental 3D drivers ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

No, I've been seeing invalid frame buffer messages in a lot of logs (including my own). I need to look into that at some point but I suspect it's a red herring. Are you able to reproduce this issue easily enough? If so, please collect a full backtrace - see http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing for directions.
