[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 725600] Re: nvidia EDID issue, wrong resolution selected
Well, even with just one attached the log makes it pretty clear that -nvidia doesn't much like your monitor. Hmm, by chance does it work properly when you boot into Classic Desktop (no effects)? Perhaps [26.834] (WW) NVIDIA(GPU-0): The EDID read for display device CRT-0 is invalid: [26.834] (WW) NVIDIA(GPU-0): unrecognized EDID Header. I assume it makes no difference whether you're running Classic Desktop (no effects), vs. Unity? (Sometimes that makes a difference, but I'm guessing not in this case.) Not sure there's much we can do to help in this case, since the EDID handling code is internal to the proprietary driver. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 728101] Re: Closing laptop lid causes screen to freeze
Hmm, offhand it sounds like a bad lid status bug in the kernel. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Quirks#Intel No Display After Lid Close Quirks: i915/intel_lvds.c ** Description changed: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel This is related to another but I filed, but I wanted debug information to be preserved. As I said in bug #726918, whenever I leave my laptop lid closed for a long enough period of time and power manager settings kick in, the screen locks up, preventing the cursor that I can still move from interacting with any screen elements (and the clock freezes, too.) Now, it appears even leaving the lid left down for a few minutes triggers this issue. Anyways, I hope the extra debug info helps. + This appears at the end of dmesg: + [ 6734.973629] [drm:i915_gem_do_execbuffer] *ERROR* Object 8800b19c5200 [handle 664, index 1] appears more than once in object list + [ 6900.242656] [drm:i915_gem_do_execbuffer] *ERROR* Object 8800b19c5200 [handle 626, index 1] appears more than once in object list + ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.04 Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.14.0-1ubuntu11 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.38-5.32-generic 2.6.38-rc6 Uname: Linux 2.6.38-5-generic x86_64 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: [core, bailer, detection, composite, opengl, decor, vpswitch, commands, resize, gnomecompat, grid, obs, regex, titleinfo, compiztoolbox, place, move, mousepoll, resizeinfo, animation, workarounds, wall, wobbly, session, expo, ezoom, staticswitcher, fade, scale, unityshell] DRM.card0.DP.1: - status: disconnected - enabled: disabled - dpms: Off - modes: - edid-base64: + status: disconnected + enabled: disabled + dpms: Off + modes: + edid-base64: DRM.card0.DP.2: - status: disconnected - enabled: disabled - dpms: Off - modes: - edid-base64: + status: disconnected + enabled: disabled + dpms: Off + modes: + edid-base64: DRM.card0.HDMI.A.1: - status: disconnected - enabled: disabled - dpms: Off - modes: - edid-base64: + status: disconnected + enabled: disabled + dpms: Off + modes: + edid-base64: DRM.card0.LVDS.1: - status: connected - enabled: enabled - dpms: On - modes: 1280x800 - edid-base64: AP///wAyDAEvAAASAQOAIRV4CreFmVlTjSclUFQBAQEBAQEBAQEBAQEBAQEBEhsAiFAgEDAwGDYAS88QAAAZ/gBMR1BoaWxpcHNMQ0QK/gBMUDE1NFdYNC1UTENBAGc= + status: connected + enabled: enabled + dpms: On + modes: 1280x800 + edid-base64: AP///wAyDAEvAAASAQOAIRV4CreFmVlTjSclUFQBAQEBAQEBAQEBAQEBAQEBEhsAiFAgEDAwGDYAS88QAAAZ/gBMR1BoaWxpcHNMQ0QK/gBMUDE1NFdYNC1UTENBAGc= DRM.card0.VGA.1: - status: disconnected - enabled: disabled - dpms: Off - modes: - edid-base64: + status: disconnected + enabled: disabled + dpms: Off + modes: + edid-base64: Date: Wed Mar 2 17:23:54 2011 DistUpgraded: Yes, recently upgraded Log time: 2011-02-26 15:36:51.885303 DistroCodename: natty DistroVariant: ubuntu GraphicsCard: - Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:2a42] (rev 07) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) -Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device [103c:360b] -Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device [103c:360b] + Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:2a42] (rev 07) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) + Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device [103c:360b] + Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device [103c:360b] InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.10 "Maverick Meerkat" - Release amd64 (20101007) MachineType: Hewlett-Packard Compaq Presario CQ50 Notebook PC ProcEnviron: - PATH=(custom, user) - LANG=en_US.UTF-8 - SHELL=/bin/bash + PATH=(custom, user) + LANG=en_US.UTF-8 + SHELL=/bin/bash ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.38-5-generic root=UUID=c81bf10f-70b0-4749-9b9e-3c2ce03e0f34 ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 Renderer: Unknown SourcePackage: xserver-xorg-video-intel UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to natty on 2011-02-26 (4 days ago) dmi.bios.date: 08/26/2009 dmi.bios.vendor: Hewlett-Packard dmi.bios.version: F.52 dmi.board.asset.tag: Base Board Asset Tag dmi.board.name: 360B dmi.board.vendor: Wistron dmi.board.version: 09.66 dmi.chassis.asset.tag: Chassis Asset Tag dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: Wistron dmi.chassis.version: Chassis Version dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnHewlett-Packard:bvrF.52:bd08/26/2009:svnHewlett-Packard:pnCompaqPresarioCQ50NotebookPC:pvrPCID:rvnWistron:rn360B:rvr09.66:cvnWistron:ct10:cvrChassisVersion: dmi.product.name: Compaq Presario CQ50 Notebook PC dmi.product.version: PCID dmi.sys.vendor: Hewlett-Packard version.compiz: compiz 1:0.9.4-0ubuntu3 version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.23-1ubuntu3 version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx 7.10.1~git20110215.cc1636b6-0ubuntu2 version.xserver-xorg: xserver-xorg 1:7.6~3ubuntu8 version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.14.0-0ubuntu2 version.x

Found the cause. The problem is caused by syndaemon running in background. Running "killall syndaemon" in the terminal restores normal mouse behavior. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 737891] [NEW] gnome-display-properties unable to correctly enable monitors connected to VGA
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: x11-xserver-utils While trying to connect external monitors through VGA in my Lenovo x201 with Intel HD Video graphics, gnome-display-properties fails to correctly display in the external monitors IF LVDS is set to off. If LVDS is kept on, then external monitors work correctly (Note that I'm not duplicating screens between LVDS and the external monitors). To reproduce, do as follows: 1. Connect external monitor to VGA output. 2. Launch gnome-display-properties and enable external monitors. 3. At this point, both LVDS and external monitor should be working just fine. 4. Using gnome-display-properties, turn off LVDS. 5. At this point, the image in the external monitor looks like [1]. Now, note that when disabling LVDS with xrandr instead of gnome-display- properties, then the external monitors have a correct image and [1] is not reproduced. High X CPU issues are almost always due to some client application driving the load up. As long as it doesn't crash X and things keep working, there isn't anything wrong with X - it's the client app that needs fixed. ;-) In this case, since you found cpu usage went down when compiz was turned off, that indicates something compiz does is causing the excess load. Btw, on another bug report I see the reason the hook fails is because the system runs out of memory, so the utility simply can't allocate the memory it needs to operate. My best guess is that's what's happening in this case too. If you want, you could try sshing into the locked up box and collecting the data manually. You'll need to: Kill X and anything else that might be consuming memory to make some space: sudo kill -9 `pidof X` copy this file: sudo cp /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state ~/i915_error_state.txt and run this command: sudo intel_gpu_dump > ~/intel_gpu_dump.txt Attach both to this bug report. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 733073] Re: [gm45] GPU lockup - i915_error_state failed in allocation of memory
>From dupe (and upstream discussion): i915_error_state: Error: [Errno 12] Cannot allocate memory Best guess is this is probably a dupe of 702090 or one of the gm45 bugs (which I suspect are just subcases of bug 702090). We have a fix in the works for 702090 in process of being uploaded so I think that will take care of the underlying problem. So I'm going to focus this bug report on the utility failure. i915_error_state seems to have failed during the automatic collection due to the system running out of memory. We should look at if the utility can be made more robust, or else adjust the apport hook to either free up memory or suppress filing bug reports in this case. ** Summary changed: - [gm45] GPU lockup 818ac509 () + [gm45] GPU lockup - i915_error_state failed in allocation of memory -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/733073 Title: [gm45] GPU lockup - i915_error_state failed in allocation of memory ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
