[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 740655] [NEW] Incorrect colour map for xv on radeon driver

2011-03-22 Thread Grant Likely
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

XV video output with the radeon driver (at least I assume it is a driver
problem) produces incorrectly coloured video output. The effect can be
seen from the gstreamer-properties application by selecting both xv and
no xv options in the video tab and clicking 'test'.

I'll attach screen shots of the good and bad output.

2011-03-22 Thread Bryce Harrington
Possibly this is a dupe of
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34014

Upstream thinks kernel patch 0faba0d4e49361886b16c703995a3477951b14e5
may help there, and this bug is similar enough that it is worth testing
that as a next step.

I am running the xorg-edgers repo. Should I file another bug and if so,
where and to what project? This is kind of part of the crashing
lifecycle for my notebook atm...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 729448] Re: [gm45] GPU lockup (ESR: 0x00000001 IPEHR: 0x11230000)

2011-03-22 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi, in the past couple weeks we've put in several fixes to common freeze
bugs. I don't recognize the error codes for this one, so am not sure
whether it was fixed or not.

You had mentioned that you'd been seeing this lockup quite frequently.
Are you still seeing lockups with current natty?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 730823] Re: Input device button/click not working on fresh Natty Alpha 3 install

2011-03-22 Thread Bryce Harrington
There may be an X aspect to this bug but it looks more like a conflict
at the kernel level in getting the buttons correctly mapped to the
device.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 730823] Re: Input device button/click not working on fresh Natty Alpha 3 install

2011-03-22 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hmm, well the kernel and X seem to be detecting the touchpad device and
hooking up its buttons...

[16.324] (**) Option "config_info"

userspace configuration looks sane as well

Loss of buttons sounds sort of like a device conflict in ACPI, but I
don't see any errors or multiply-assigned device nodes.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 567517] Re: [RS690] sporadically while scrolling in any application the screen in most parts would change to "static" noise.

2011-03-22 Thread Migs
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 556782 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/556782

This started happening to me recently and I'm relating it to two
distinct factors: firstly, no cpu scaling in ubuntu which means the cpu
gets hotter and so does the gpu; secondly, the weather's getting a bit
hotter here in Portugal so I guess the gfx card's saying bye bye...

I'm still ubuntunizing but I'm planning my return to windows :( I've
changed some settings in a modded bios ( see
http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer/480992-acer-laptop-phoenix-bios-
bios-mod-request-108.html ) and reduced the gfx core to 200mhz and
everything to do with voltage. So far it seems like it's holding itself
together, managing to withstand a whopping 15 minutes without
crashing...

Lets see if this sticks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 665546] Re: Drop and sub menus don't always show up

2011-03-22 Thread Joe Thomlinson
Add me to the list as well. Amd64 10.10, Compiz and Nvidia drivers.
Menus and drop downs randomly don't display on first activation unless
you move the pointer over the screen area where the menu should be and
then it appears, subsequent activations work as expected.

I have seen the problem as far back as 9.04 (Amd64, Compiz & Nvidia),
although mainly with the Firefox 'awsome bar' occasionally not showing
matching previous entries as I type a URL. If I clicked outside firefox
and then back to it the problem goes away for a while, I still get this
occasionally today on 10.10.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 726142] Re: Wacom tablet mouse does not work properly when monitor set to vertical resolution

2011-03-22 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Ok, so wacom is the only driver which supports proper rotation, evdev
and synaptics only support switching the axis around.

There are a couple of options to fix this bug; make the wacom driver
recognize that the tablet screen has rotated, and rotate the wacom
device as well, or make the GUI notice it and offer to rotate it for the
user. Neither are fixable for natty, but are longer term projects.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 416516] Re: Touchpad isn't sensitive enough on MacBook 5, 2

2011-03-22 Thread Ahmed Shams
After a little discussion, it seemed to be a kernel bug in it's origin(thanks
to ~simar),
so if you please can run: 'sudo evtest /dev/input/event8 > evtest.log'
Note: it won't show you what's happening, it'll just save it, try to move your
finger on the touchpad normally, I mean without excessive pressure.
You may need to install evtest first: sudo apt-get install evtest

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 738352] Re: s-video - TV grey only (should be PAL)

2011-03-22 Thread benste
(19.03.2011) - got it colored now.

I'd change the description to xrandr not able to change the video output
mode.

iirc even if NTSC isn't valid for my region i should be able to switch
to NTSC which i wasn't - and luckyly it was only a tweak in the TV to
get the default PAL signal working.

I'd say it's a regression changeing the video standard via xrandr -
remember testing this during the 10.10 release with nouveau too, but now
in natty it's not working anymore.

had this problem for a long time, definitely in Ubuntu 10.04 as well as
10.10 but then I get the latest unstable updates so may have gotten
whatever was causing the problem early while still using 10.04.

I don't use compiz. I had the problem with compositing turned on for
metacity, and also with mutter that I use now. I've had this problem on
3 different computers, all using the proprietary Nvidea driver.

I also have a problem with office applications not always displaying the
window when opened. Specifically Open Office (now using Libra Office
and still have the same problem) and also GnuCash. Usually works fine
the first time I start one of these apps after logging in, but if close
the app and try to open it again a while later, nothing shows up. I
have to kill the process from System Monitor and then try to open it
again. That usually works, but sometimes I have to log out and back in.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 522061] Re: Nvidia proprietary drivers fallback test failed

2011-03-22 Thread Ofir Klinger
Just followed the test again and this time I also tried booting using
recovery mode.

Ubuntu booted up just fine. When an option to continue with failsafe X was
offered I took it and then chose to run Ubuntu in low graphic mode.
Then I run gksudo jockey-gtk and jockey said that the nvidia driver is running
properly and is activated, while it should say that something is wrong and ask
whether to reinstall the driver.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 353126] Re: Compiz / vnc screen refresh with nvidia-restricted driver/VirtualBox/ATI fglrx driver using X.org

2011-03-22 Thread rambamram
I can confirm that I'm also having this issue on 10.10 x32 with nVidia
drivers.

Was having this issue with 10.04 as well.

yes with Visual effects disabled you can get Client side info but with
visual effects enabled it does not automatically disable when someone
connects.

If you setup a vncserver :1 and higher the issue does not present
itself...it only affects the main Desktop vncserver :0

in earlier versions there was a built in visual effects auto disable
when VNC connected to the main desktop...but not since 9.14.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 738352] Re: s-video - TV grey only (should be PAL)

2011-03-22 Thread Bryce Harrington
Is this a recent regression or has it always been this way? If it is a
regression, when did you first start noticing it behaving this way.

Note from your xrandr output, 'NTSC' is not a supported mode. You can
try these values:

mode: PAL
supported: PAL PAL-MPAL-NPAL-Nc
   NTSC-M NTSC-J

Some won't be valid for your region of course, but do any of them work
properly?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 560433] Re: [clarkdale] Xorg freeze

2011-03-22 Thread Joshua
I'm also seeing the freeze and the errors posted by Marcello Romani.

I have Intel DH57JG board with i5 650 processor. Nothing else on the
board (using the integrated graphics).

Using Ubuntu 10.10 and 2.6.35-28-generic.

This issue progressed for me to the point where it would occur very
frequently and even when only booted into BIOS. Intel suspected a board
problem and replaced it but I'm still seeing the issue, though not as
frequently with the new board. I've only had the replacement about a
month so time will tell if the performance degrades again. I may also
looking into trying a different processor.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 727620] Re: [Radeon HD 5650 and 5470] Driver crash during recovery boot and in normal boot (Regression from 2.6.38-3 to -4)

2011-03-22 Thread Johan Fornander
I have a theory... Maybe there is a race condition between the intel and
ati driver involved here? My notebook starts up in two seemingly random
configurations, or three including the radeon crash:

1. X server is on VT8 -> unable to unload radeon module because it is in
use (by some framebuffer I guess). I am also unable to switch to
consoles VT1-7. If I use vga_switcheroo to switch to integrated gpu in
this mode then radeon crashes.

2. X server is on VT7 -> I can unload the radeon module and use the
consoles VT1-6. vga_switcheroo works and I can also use acpi calls to
turn off the gpu.

3. The radeon driver crashes. Forcing reboot through RSEIUB.

This makes it difficult to control the temperature since I cannot know
if the radeon module is in use or not (i.e. I might or might not be able
to use the vga_switcheroo, or unload the module and use a specific acpi
call to shut of the gpu).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 740461] [NEW] Striping, Tearing, Flashing on video display when using SiS video driver

2011-03-22 Thread 9Sageev George
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Please see https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/297335 for full information. This
report was filed so that Ubuntu developers would know that the bug in the x.org
SiS driver currently exists in the Lucid distribution. It appears that the bug
has never been resolved. The only workaround has been to use the VESA driver
instead.
Release: Lucid Lynx, 10.04.2 (with latest updates)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 726438] Re: Can't login after standby since 2:2.12.0-1ubuntu5.2

2011-03-22 Thread mrvanes
I think the problem is not related to the intel driver version
2:2.12.0-1ubuntu5.2 bump, but to these bugs in kernel 2.6.38 that
apparently have not been fixed completely yet?

https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23472
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31803

I therefor consider this bug invalid.

Both screenshots are from the -intel box.

The black smudge over the trashcan is the corruption, the overlapped

2011-03-22 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

When using classic desktop, I am seeing graphical corruption from
incorrect damage handling. This is on my Thinkpad T61 with the nvidia
binary driver. It happens when using the classic desktop with metacity,
I am not seeing this when using compiz.

(I also see a similar issue with -intel, see bug #740387)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 740387] Re: graphical corruption with multiple drivers and classic desktop

2011-03-22 Thread Bryce Harrington
Even though it may look the same, let's handle the issue on the -intel
box here and the -nvidia issue on a separate bug report (different
upstreams, etc.)

Are both of the attached screenshots for the -intel box?

In the first screenshot I notice overlapped icons and a black smudge
over the trashcan. Is it just the latter which you consider to be
corruption, or both?

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xorg

When using classic desktop, I am seeing graphical corruption from

nvidia driver, and my Thinkpad T510 with the intel driver.

It happens with the classic desktop when using metacity, I don't think I
could see it when using compiz.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 717114] Re: [i945gm] Screen Corruption with new Xorg stack with terminal programs

2011-03-22 Thread Bryce Harrington
Closing as fixed since the linux task is closed, and has been validated
by several people.

If others are still seeing text corruption issues, it's likely there is
are multiple rendering bugs going on, or else that there is something
hardware-specific going on. In either case, best next action for you is
to file a new bug (you can file against xorg if you want, although like
this one they may technically be kernel bugs.) Include a screenshot or
photo showing the corruption.

** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu Natty)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 740387] [NEW] graphical corruption with multiple drivers and classic desktop

2011-03-22 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

When using classic desktop, I am seeing graphical corruption from
incorrect damage handling. This happens on my Thinkpad T61 with binary
nvidia driver, and my Thinkpad T510 with the intel driver.

It happens with the classic desktop when using metacity, I don't think I
could see it when using compiz.
