[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 746826] Re: [i915gm] GPU lockup ESR: 0x00000001 IPEHR: 0x7d8e0001
These gpu lockup bugs typically involve your computer freezing (except sometimes the mouse cursor moves), with a blank screen or the screen no longer painting or responding to clicks. Only way to recover is to power cycle your computer. Do you ever notice problems such as that? From the log message it appears you did experience that at one time. (Reason I ask is we sometimes get false positives with the capture tool.) ** Summary changed: - i915gm GPU lockup ESR: 0x0001 IPEHR: 0x7d8e0001 + [i915gm] GPU lockup ESR: 0x0001 IPEHR: 0x7d8e0001 ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/746826 Title: [i915gm] GPU lockup ESR: 0x0001 IPEHR: 0x7d8e0001 ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 745308] Re: [arrandale] GPU lockup (ESR: 0x00000001 IPEHR: 0x05000000)
I think this lockup bug was likely due to the older mesa that was present in ia32-libs. Version 20090808ubuntu11 was just recently added to natty a day ago; it's possible at the time your system locked up that you had the older version of ia32-libs with the broken mesa. Have you had any system lockups since you upgraded to this version of ia32-libs? If not, then please see if you can reproduce the lockup again with this ia32-libs, and give it a few days to recur. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/745308 Title: [arrandale] GPU lockup (ESR: 0x0001 IPEHR: 0x0500) ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 730476] Re: Part of the time appears cut off when displaying the day of the week and date
unity 2d uses the gnome panel as well I believe, and it's indicator- applet-complete or indicator-applet there are a few packages for various indicator bits in the gnome panel. I've investigated this bug a bit, and there's a guide being set in indicator-datetime and that guide is adequate as it works for unity3d, so I took a poke at the indicator-applet-complete and couldn't find anything that may particularly limit it. I imagine there's some calculation going wrong somewhere down the line and it'll be in indicator-applet somewhere. ** Changed in: indicator-datetime Assignee: (unassigned) = Karl Lattimer (karl-qdh) ** Changed in: indicator-datetime Status: New = In Progress -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/730476 Title: Part of the time appears cut off when displaying the day of the week and date ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 747069] [NEW] [natty beta-1] Screen flashes on and of every few seconds with nouveau driver
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau I tried booting the Natty 11.04 beta-1 live cd (32-bit) on a compaq presario with an nVidia chipset. The system took a long time to boot, possibly because of fairly low RAM and possibly because the hard disk is currently only formatted with a FreeBSD partition so that no swap space is available. However, the bug I'm reporting is that once the system logs in to a Gnome screen, the screen blanks for a second or so every few seconds. Looking at Xorg.0.log (in attached bug.tgz file) it looks like noveau and vesa drivers are loaded, along with various other drivers including frame buffer drivers. I previously had Fedora 14 installed, which displayed the same problem with the default nvidia driver, but worked ok at the Samsung SyncMaster 570S panel's max 1024x768 resolution using a vesa driver. Likewise on FreeBSD a vesa driver works better than the nv driver (which has another resolution problem). ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu Natty (development branch) Release:11.04 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.04 Package: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:0.0.16+git20110107+b795ca6e-0ubuntu6 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.38-7.39-generic 2.6.38 Uname: Linux 2.6.38-7-generic i686 Architecture: i386 CompizPlugins: [core, bailer, detection, composite, opengl, decor, mousepoll, vpswitch, regex, animation, snap, expo, move, compiztoolbox, place, grid, imgpng, gnomecompat, wall, ezoom, workarounds, staticswitcher, resize, fade, unitymtgrabhandles, scale, session, unityshell] CompositorRunning: None DRM.card0.DVI.D.1: status: disconnected enabled: disabled dpms: Off modes: edid-base64: DRM.card0.VGA.1: status: connected enabled: enabled dpms: On modes: 1024x768 800x600 800x600 848x480 640x480 edid-base64: Date: Fri Apr 1 08:02:46 2011 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: natty DistroVariant: ubuntu GdmLog1: GdmLog2: GraphicsCard: nVidia Corporation C51 [GeForce 6150 LE] [10de:0241] (rev a2) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device [103c:2a3e] LiveMediaBuild: Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal - Beta i386 (20110330) Lsusb: Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 001 Device 002: ID 058f:6362 Alcor Micro Corp. I have the same set up with the same symptoms, however there is a workaround - Bob, when you enable dual monitors log out and back in again and it should be ok, you will need to add a logout button to the panel away from the garbled mess:) This works but if enabling desktop effects under appearance, the display gets messed up as described above and a log out and back in again somehow reverts it back to no effects -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/706890 Title: dual monitors garbled display on 10.10 with Radeon X600 ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 730476] Re: Part of the time appears cut off when displaying the day of the week and date
Digging deeper into indicator-applet it appears this code just responds to the size request that the indicator makes, which should be perfectly ample. I doubt there is a way to detect indicator side if you're unity2d or unity3d particularly easily, and even then I wouldn't really want to special case the size stuff for one over the other. The effected code appears to be in indicator-datetime.c, guess_label_size. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 747338] [NEW] LiveCD should have a safe graphics option
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Especially on nVidia cards, the default nouveau driver may not work and the user would have to add a nouveau fake parameter at boot options in order to crash the driver. It would be much better, especially for unexperienced Ubuntu users, to have an easy option to boot with safe graphics. For instance I filled the nouveau bug #564572 on april 2010 and it hasn't been fixed. A new Ubuntu user would probably just give up because it doesn't work. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 747338] [NEW] LiveCD should have a safe graphics option
Public bug reported: Especially on nVidia cards, the default nouveau driver may not work and the user would have to add a nouveau fake parameter at boot options in order to crash the driver. It would be much better, especially for unexperienced Ubuntu users, to have an easy option to boot with safe graphics. For instance I filled the nouveau bug #564572 on april 2010 and it hasn't been fixed. A new Ubuntu user would probably just give up because it doesn't work. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 649809] Re: the session settings manager can try starting before the login screen one exits
mb21, I assume you are really running the package with the patch applied, right? Can you double-check? If so, can you please run: # echo sleep 5 /etc/X11/Xsession.d/50slowdownthere as root and see if that fixes the problem? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 649809] Re: the session settings manager can try starting before the login screen one exits
Rodrigo, for me, the sleep-workaround didn't help in any way, either (even with sleep 5 or sleep 10). And I'm on the fast end :) As said, for me, gdm's gnome-settings-daemon seems to actually hang after I'm logging in. Still seems to be some kind of a race condition, as this only happens maybe 1 in 15 times or so. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 747126] Re: X crashes on first touchpad touch
That's a perfectly reasonable question, Daniel. Thanks to Chase, it is going to the main natty repositories, no need for a PPA. It has already been published at http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/x/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/ and should be headed to all of them shortly (maybe it has already propagated fully). I was able to install by running update-manager a few minutes ago without doing anything special. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/747126 Title: X crashes on first touchpad touch ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
