[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 753216] [NEW] Computer hangs when trying to sleep after external monitor is connected or disconnected
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg On my System76 Lemur (Ubuntu 10.10, uname -a: Linux mjumbewu-lemur 2.6.35-28-generic #50-Ubuntu SMP Fri Mar 18 18:42:20 UTC 2011 x86_64 GNU/Linux), suspend will stop working after I configure the machine to use an external monitor. It does not matter whether I use multiple displays or mirror the same display onto both screens. I use gnome- display-properties to set up my screens. In order to use the computer again I must force a reboot. Steps to reproduce: 1) Boot computer 2) Connect external monitor (into VGA port) 3) Set up dual heads 4) Disconnect external monitor 5) Close the lid Expected results: - Computer goes into standby, as normal. Actual results: - Computer remains on and no longer responds to mouse or keyboard. Fan also spins up. Thanks. Re-opening this because the original problem still exists (fully updated Natty beta as of 6 April). If I boot with external monitor attached, the screen of laptop and monitor turn black as soon as I log in. If I boot without external monitor, I can log in and the desktop appears as expected. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 577340] Re: [RC410] Xpress 200M hangs when resuming from suspend with DRI, with or without KMS
Mark! Suspend or resuming from suspend does work for you with your custom kernel? And can you try an openSuSE 11.1 liveCD if resuming works correctly there for you too (no install is required, for me it works from liveCD) if you happen to have a CD too :) 2011/4/7 Mark 577...@bugs.launchpad.net OK I'm trying out Natty Beta 1 fully uptodate and suspend still doesn't work. I use this tool here, http://kcheck.sourceforge.net/ to build a custom Kernel and just enabled any AMD/Radeon options I find under video or whatever. Now suspend works fione, but funnily enough Compiz doesn't anymore, so I missed something I think. I also switched CPU to on-demand instead of Performance... maybe that helped, I dunno. That's the first time I've custom done a kernel for over 10 years, so I'm pretty clueless to be honest. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 614993] Re: 10.04 - 10.10 upgrade fails: pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks: xserver-xorg-video-v4l demoted to universe
Still no luck with this. I have removed the nouveau and so on and ran update-manager -d - as various people have suggested. I am beginning to think that the only way to upgrade is to do a vanilla reinstallation. This will be particularly inconvenient, being as I have VBox with Win7 installed, and that means I will probably have to call Microsoft to get the licence working again as each Windows doesn't like having its virtual container updated. All in all, it is going to be a real big time-consuming hassle, if I have to do a vanilla installation, so some clear instruction would be very gratefully received. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 745304] Re: Graphics corruption after hibernate with Intel GMA 3150 chipset
I looked at the grub changes a little closer. I think it's just falling back to text mode by accident. It's looking for a blacklist file that isn't there, and when it can't find the file it uses text mode. If I install grub-gfx-payload-lists it goes back to graphical mode. The upstream guys say that the graphical handoff should be able to work. I'm setting the status back to triaged. It's looking likely the problem might be in the kernel though, so I'm going to take a closer look at what's going on in the driver to see if I can figure anything out. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid = Triaged -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/745304 Title: Graphics corruption after hibernate with Intel GMA 3150 chipset ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 544496] Re: [RS100] desktop became slow after upgrading to Lucid
I recall reading recently that 32MB video RAM limit was increased to 64MB. I cant remember what kernel version it first appeared in though. Regrading the DRI2 page flipping support mentioned in the bug description and comment #3, this was included in the recently released 2.6.38 kernel. You will also need version 6.14.0 of the xserver-xorg- video-ati driver. Both of these packages are included in the upcoming Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal release. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 577340] suspend still does not work on 38 and 39-rc1
Welcome to the club, Mark :) As far as I can tell, neither 38 stable nor recent 39-rc1 work with suspend and kms enabled. My system is maverick and the said kernels are custom built from kernel.org What you are probably seeing is the same: with kms enabled no resume from suspend, with no dri/kms (radeon.modeprobe=0 or nomodeprobe kernel boot parameter) it resumes fine, while no 3d acceleration is present. Karesz, how's your Susie based distro experience with an old kernel. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 753703] [NEW] Xorg freeze upon clicking maximize button
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg System appears to freeze whenever I click the maximize button in a window. I expected the window to maximize, instead, the system froze. I fixed by dropping to a shell via Ctrl + Alt + F1, logging in, and running sudo shutdown now, then rebooting. Other methods of maximizing the window, such as keyboard shortcuts and double clicking the title bar of the window appear to work, however the maximize button does not. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 753743] [NEW] windows don't fully maximize in certain dual-head setups
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I have an ASUS 1001P netbook (resolution 1024x600) to which I attach an external display with a resolution of 1680x1050. Under the following conditions windows do not fully maximize: a) internal display below external display b) displays not fully aligned vertically but with an offset both left and right If those conditions are met then windows on the external diplay do not maximize any longer. They do maximize vertically but not horizontally. I believe they extend to the right edge of the internal (display). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 753743] Re: windows don't fully maximize in certain dual-head setups
** Description changed: Binary package hint: xorg I have an ASUS 1001P netbook (resolution 1024x600) to which I attach an external display with a resolution of 1680x1050. So, let's say the internal display has an offset of one pixel from the external display. This triggers the bug. Both displays are almost aligned left, but only almost. Looking at the maximized windows on the - external displays it seems as if they start 1024+1 pixel horizontally. + external displays it seems as if they start at 1024+1 pixel + horizontally. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 725434] Re: Nvidia drivers lead to extra memory usage for each process using libGL
I got tired of nouveau freezing my desktop (at least I assume that's what it was, maybe it's just compiz itself) and downgraded libcairo2 to the maverick-updates version ( http://packages.ubuntu.com/maverick- updates/libcairo2 ). It's been about an hour and my computer hasn't exploded yet. I'm using the proprietary Nvidia driver with an onboard 6150SE. I have 2gb RAM, and contrary to other opinions, it affected my system very noticeably and forced much swapping whereas none was needed before. I have a 2.5Ghz dual core (albeit a bit dated) and programs that normally open instantly were, well, not. Hope this gets fixed soon! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/725434 Title: Nvidia drivers lead to extra memory usage for each process using libGL ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 746396] Re: [i865] GPU lockup (ESR: 0x00000010 PGTBL_ER: 0x00000029 IPEHR: 0x02000011)
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 715096 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/715096 I doubt whether this bug has anything to do with Skype crashing the system. this error occurs directly after booting and my system crashed on almost every input made, besides it is a different chip. The situation is getting worse with every update. Now the system freezes directly after booting and the display is completely garbled. The HP d530 SFF has been a very popular machine and HP sold millions of them especially to businesses, but they are hitting the second hand market now and I bought mine for 45 euro. It is a pity it does not work with Ubuntu. It does not work with Gnome nor with Unity, but I switched to xubuntu/xfce and there it works like a Swiss watch, including the transparency for the windows and windows decorations. Once in a while I will recheck the ubuntu flavor, since it is still installed. I am not very experienced with ubuntu. As a user I have used it now as my main/only OS for 2 years, but I have not yet very much knowledge about the internals of Linux. However I know this type of complexity, because I designed and wrote parts of OSes for main frames and 16-bit minis also supporting vector based graphical radar displays back in the 70/80-ties. I am a pensioner and I have some time to spend. So what kind of information do you need and how can I help to get it? One things I need to know is how to enable/force a crash dump , most Internet sides explain how to do it from the command line, but that does not help with a frozen system and garbled display. The system does not even react to the power off button anymore. You really have to press it for 4 seconds. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/746396 Title: [i865] GPU lockup (ESR: 0x0010 PGTBL_ER: 0x0029 IPEHR: 0x0211) ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 753971] [NEW] Display garbled upon restoring original resolution or connecting external displays
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Steps to reproduce: 1- Open the Monitors control panel. 2- Choose a different resolution and orientation (we use 640x480 upside down). 3- Press Apply. 4- Select Restore original configuration to return to how things were originally. Expected result: - Resolution restores, screen rebuilds and is visually identical to how it was before the resolution changed. Actual result: - Display is corrupted in various ways. On some systems only the background or parts of it are visible. On others, there's some misplacement of elements. Some others show garbling on all or parts of the screen. On all systems, moving the pointer, dragging windows or generally forcing the system to redraw seems to eventually restore the display to a usable state. We also observed the same problem when plugging in an external display: the corruption happens when connecting the external monitor, and can be restored by dragging things around. When unplugging the external display, the integrated screen becomes garbled as described. The systems were originally installed with Natty Beta1 (March 30, 2011), we did a full update/dist-upgrade on April 7, 2011 and confirmed that the behavior is still present. The system I'm reporting this from is a Dell Inspiron 1545, but about half the systems we tested B1 on exhibited this problem (18 systems out of 32). I'll update shortly with a list of affected systems.
