[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 737891] Re: [Arrandale] gnome-display-properties unable to correctly enable monitors connected to VGA
Okay, one more interesting tidbit... I am actually unable to run *any* resolution on my external monitor, if I disable my laptop LCD in gnome's monitor configuration utility. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 737891] Re: [Arrandale] gnome-display-properties unable to correctly enable monitors connected to VGA
Okay, I'm *finally* back home and was able to test this... I can confirm part of what Thierry suggested. I removed ~/.config/monitors.xml and that got rid of the Samsung flashing monitor on reboot. It comes up in cloned monitor mode, dropping down to the lowest common resolution, which is 1280x800. I am now working on my 24" monitor at 1280x800, which is better than the unusable flashing screen. Okay, so now I try to change the resolution of my Samsung monitor to its max. I disabled the laptop screen entirely, and then I set the external Samsung to 1920x1080, and boom, flashing green/black screen all over again :-( Give it 30 seconds, and it restores. Next, I tried enabling both screens, with my laptop at 1280x800 and my external monitor at 1920x1080. Surprisingly, this worked just fine. Unfortunately, this isn't my preferred working setup :-( I prefer to put my laptop in my docking station, lid closed, and go straight from a single screen with 1280x800 resolution, to a single external monitor with 1920x1080. Note that all of this works fine in 10.10. And also note that all of my testing is in the Gnome Classic Desktop. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/737891 Title: [Arrandale] gnome-display-properties unable to correctly enable monitors connected to VGA ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

This is repeatable by going to the same website in Firefox: the first PIC in http://reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/gvm1w/i_work_in_a_brothel_photo_validation_ama/ . 3. this runs with no xorg.conf - xconfigurator gets confused when I try to run it, presumably because it's a new sandy bridge laptop with dual nvidia/intel video. (But that's a different bug.) 4. "[mi] EQ overflowing. The server is probably stuck in an infinite loop." seems to be a common thread in the logs. However, this particular lockup doesn't seem to show it in Xorg.0.log. [mi] EQ overflowing. The server is probably stuck in an infinite loop. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 770036] [NEW] In Code::Blocks when scrolling the text vertically and downwards using scrolling wheel I get screen corruption
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Check the png to see what I mean. It worked just fine in 10.10 so I think it's an issue with Ubuntu not Code::Blocks. It happens only when scrolling down with the mouse wheel. Upwards works just fine. Very annoying because in order to get rid of the effect I need to click the screen once. Just a heads-up: If I disable Sync to VBlank in CCSM, and keep Tear Free Desktop enabled in AMDCCCLE, I get normal performance, as well as no tearing (because AMD is handling it at the driver level). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 769911] [NEW] System freeze after login in 11.04
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-nv System locks up after login and doesn't respond to mouse or keyboard. Alt + SysRq + REISUB is also unsuccessful. On reboot it will crash multiple times at boot before booting successfully without freezing. After that, the system runs normally until next boot. It generally takes 5-7 attempts to get the system running. I upgraded to Natty a few days ago, but this has been an issue in 10.10 as well. Video card is Nvidia 8600GT with most recent proprietary driver. The ram memory test showed no problems and after adding 'blacklist=nouveau' to etc/default/grub the problem persists. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 700646] Re: nVIDIA 425M (with Optimus) is not detected
My guess is that the problem is much worse than just lack of driver support, because if you can't turn the intel card off via the BIOS, you can't use the nvidia card because the video output is driven by the intel card, meaning it's not as simple as just writing a driver for the nvidia card - you also need to be able to copy the output back to the intel card's framebuffer. (eg look http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1657660.) The root cause is actually that there is no support for optimus in either the proprietary or open-source drivers, and there is unlikely to be any for some time because (a) nvidia are refusing to support it or to provide information about how to support it, and (b) you simply cannot turn it off unless there is hardware support switchable via the BIOS to do so. It's a complete disaster for nvidia cards in linux. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nv in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/700646 Title: nVIDIA 425M (with Optimus) is not detected ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 762135] Re: [i865] natty beta2 desktop live session - display heavily corrupted
I again ran the natty beta2 live CD but this time I used F6 from the initial live CD boot menu and edited the boot string to include nomodeset as it happens, I also chose to mark nomodeset in the F6 options, and I also removed quiet splash from the string also, if it makes any difference I don't know. However, the Live CD then booted and displayed OK and ran ok in what looked like classic gnome, without display corruption. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 763808] Re: 11.04 does not properly load NVIDIA driver for Geforce 9500 GT
I'm having a similar problem with my Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop running the latest 11.04 Beta 2 install. Unity worked for a while, then Update Manager came up and I installed updates and now I can only run the old desktop. I'm not dual booting this laptop and I'm just running the screen on the laptop itself. When I check the Additional Drivers dialog, it says that the driver is active but not in use. I tried running the command line given above and got an error when I tried to run the dkpg -l command. Here's the rest of the output: Linux michael-MM061 2.6.38-8-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Mon Apr 11 03:31:50 UTC 2011 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux Distributor ID: Ubuntu Description:Ubuntu 11.04 Release:11.04 Codename: natty *-display description: VGA compatible controller product: G72M [Quadro NVS 110M/GeForce Go 7300] vendor: nVidia Corporation physical id: 0 bus info: pci@:01:00.0 version: a1 width: 64 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: pm msi pciexpress vga_controller bus_master cap_list rom configuration: driver=nvidia latency=0 resources: irq:16 memory:ed00-edff memory:d000-dfff memory:ee00-eeff memory:ef00-ef01 I've also tried the sudo nvidia-xconfig command with no luck. What I find odd is that when I first installed the new OS, Unity worked fine until update manager ran. I've also noticed that there is a long pause during the boot up sequence where the screen is blank. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 752445] Re: Intermittent white window contents when maximizing/switching windows
Yes, 173 version isn't affected with this white windows bug but it has a big issue about the waking up from suspend (at least in my case: nvidia GeForce 6200Go in a laptop so I often use suspend). If I wanna use unity I have to use Nouevau Gallium 3D driver which is working good but approx. 5 times slower. I hope there will be a fix that at least one driver will be usable. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/752445 Title: Intermittent white window contents when maximizing/switching windows ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 752445] Re: Intermittent white window contents when maximizing/switching windows
Mine is nvidia GeForce 7025 / nForce 630a. The problem is exactly same. For Eg: You open firefox , nautilus, Libreoffice in fullscreen. First two of them are fine and the third, Libreoffice window goes white. Try to shuffle them in order the third maximised window will be white. But for flash videoes like youtube the first attempt to 'FULLSCREEN' makes them white. It's just not natty, I upgraded maverick's compiz to latest version with compiz ppa and even that shows similar problem. May be the latest NVIDIA-CURRENT (270.41.06) drivers conflict with latest COMPIZ (0.9.4+bzr20110415). Problem should be sorted as soon as possible, when we are so close to release. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/752445 Title: Intermittent white window contents when maximizing/switching windows ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 762478] Re: No icons shown in unity launcher
I have this problem as well, I reinstalled Ubuntu from the beta 1 CD and and the Icons in the Launcher were showing but after updating to Beta 2 the problem came back I lost all the Icons in the Launcher. As a kind of workaround I installed Unity 2d which looks and acts much like the 3d version, everything works fine in Unity 2d I think it would be a good idea if Unity 2d was installed along with the main install of Ubuntu so if issues arise with the 3d version you could drop back to Unity 2d which is far better than the Gnome 2x desktop at leased with Unity 2d you can still get the look and feel of the new desktop Ubuntu is promoting -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/762478 Title: No icons shown in unity launcher ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
