[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 776904] [NEW] Application windows not redrawn, appears unresponsive
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Yesterday I upgraded to Natty. Unity was counterproductive for my usage, so I switched back to gnome-classic interface. I haven't reproduced this in unity. I didn't really try. In normal use, application interfaces frozen very often. At first I thought this was an input problem, but if I resize a frozen window, I notice that it has accepted all my input and appears normal. So to me it seems that windows just fail to invalidate and/or redraw themselves. This happens most often after alt-tabbing from application to another. This is not consistent thought. I haven't been able to pin-point what exactly causes this. I have been able to continue using an application every time it has appeared frozen this way, after I resize the window. So, atleast that seems consistent :P I do understand that this might be a gnome problem and not X.org problem, but without further expertise I am unable to correctly address this bug report. Feel free to reassign as you see fit. Thanks for the great work! [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 763005] Re: Fglrx with Compiz's Sync to Vblank makes Unity/Compiz plugins to crawl
@Felix: Thanks for the suggestion. That fixes the the fgl_glxgears update issue but the whole system still feels slower than before. The Compiz window repaint problem is still there - it would redraw fairly often if I move the mouse slowly while moving a window around but if I start moving it quickly it the image would stop to repaint and stay at one place until I slow down my mouse again. All during this time the mouse cursor repaints without any visible slowdown. I tried to record a video of it happening but it didn't work with xvidcap, probably due to compiz. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/763005 Title: Fglrx with Compiz's Sync to Vblank makes Unity/Compiz plugins to crawl ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 776978] [NEW] everything on screen is garbled apart from the top bar (2 monitors, different resolutions, unity, natty)
Public bug reported: I'm not the original author of the question, but I've got the exact same problem (Acer Aspire One, 1280x720 + 1440x900 external); this is the main thing that keeps me on Lucid (it's the gf's laptop I am experimenting with) Hello, I'm working with a portable computer, with another screen attached to the vga port. I work with both screens. I updated Ubuntu desktop from 10.10 to 11.04. After the update, both screens were corrupted, excepted the upper bar. When I've disconnected the external monitor and rebooted, everything worked file. Each time I tried to reconnect the external monitor, both screens were unreadable, excepted (sometimes) the upper bar and the new launchbar at the left of the screen. If i shake the mouse on the screen, some fields are redrawn and become visible. I've then installed 11.04 from scratch (reformat and reinstall). The problem is the same. The screen on the portable computer is 1400x1050, and the external screen is 1680(?) x 1050 [Just for completeness, my home directory is on another partition. So if something about displays were written to that directory by ubuntu 10.10 (and is now incompatible with 11.04), I don't know were it is, and don't know how to remove it. ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/776978 Title: everything on screen is garbled apart from the top bar (2 monitors, different resolutions, unity, natty) ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 763005] Re: Fglrx with Compiz's Sync to Vblank makes Unity/Compiz plugins to crawl
I can confirm big problems fglrx and new compiz version. I am using a Radeon 4200 onboard device. But I cant confirm that disabling the v-sync option in CCSM and compiz increases the situation. Its rather the opposite. With this option disabled I have to wait some seconds until a window follows my cursor! With vsync enabled it works a bit better, so its usable, but very much slower than with 10.10. I have for example to switch of compiz to play video fluently. Is there some hope that there will be a fix for that soon? If not, I really will have a look for another distribution. Hi @Bryce, thank you for your information. Is that means I should manually install some PPA kernel and test it? I'd try it later. For the past few days, my system locked several times, then, it's more and more clearly shows that: the froze almost always occurred with my LibraOffice Calc ( very strange ). I tested three system options: 1. Ubuntu Classic Environment, 2. Ubuntu Classic Environment (No Effect). 3. Ubuntu Class Environment with your new intel driver. ( upgrade by official apt). The frozen always happened within 3 minute after I start LibraOffice. If I start LibraOffice Calc for just few seconds and close it immediately, after that the frozen won't occurred. But if I want use LibraOffice Calc for a long time, I MUST set 'fbdev' as my default graphics driver, otherwise the will occurred soon. In the past few days, the apport bug collection tool did not shows up after everytime this bug occurred, I don't know why until I did some research on google, it told me I should modify my configuration in /etc/default/apport, and set the default value as '1', hehe. Now I've submitted a new bug here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/777028 . It might contains some useful information for you guys. If you have any suggestions or advice, please contact me or leave a message here. If you want more frozen bug report, please let me know. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 745112] Re: [arrandale] desktop is messed up (goes black) when laptop is docked with two external 1920x1200 monitors (x86_64)
I also had to delete my monitors.xml on my thinkpad x201. I've also found that putting one display above the other is a recipe for disaster - Chrome especially freaks out and makes a short window that can't be expanded, rendering it useless, and all my windows lose their titlebars routinely. Putting my displays side-by-side has far fewer problems. I suspect that I triggered this bug by fiddling with my monitors one on top of the other. I haven't gotten it into a bad state with the monitors side-by-side. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/745112 Title: [arrandale] desktop is messed up (goes black) when laptop is docked with two external 1920x1200 monitors (x86_64) ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 661248] Re: Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT doesn't work with nvidia-current 260
I think that's the wrong resource0 file (for bus 0 device 2, rather than bus 2 device 0). Probably easier to use the symlinks: /sys/bus/pci/devices/:02:00.0/resource0 However, you can't call read() on those files, they can only be mmap'd. /dev/mem should work, though. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 752445] Re: Intermittent white window contents when maximizing/switching windows
Rats. I loaded synaptic and chose to remove nvidia 270 and install 173 and had all kinds of problems. When I rebooted, the loging screen was only one thin line of display at the top of the monitor and all the rest was black. I could reboot with default display from the recovery mode, and used the additional driver tool to go back to nvidia-current and the blank windows are back. If I open the firefox windows the third one is blank. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/752445 Title: Intermittent white window contents when maximizing/switching windows ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 567696] Re: [Radeon] [Lucid] [mi] EQ overflowing. The server is probably stuck in an infinite loop
Same as funicorn. 1-3 time a day, X seems to randomly freeze. The mouse still moves but the screen stays frozen. I'm on a Thinkpad W510 (Intel i7 and Nvidia Quatro card). I was experiencing this on 10.10, and it's still with me after a 11.04 upgrade. Here's the relevant portion of Xorg.0.log: [ 2071.340] (II) XKB: reuse xkmfile /var/lib/xkb/server-9A8405F3FE0A780485714A4B6DD41909C2CF9F83.xkm [ 2091.345] [mi] EQ overflowing. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 752445] Re: Intermittent white window contents when maximizing/switching windows
I found a workaround for me! I log out, then choose my login and down below I select Classic (No effects) and now all windows seem to work with no blank screens. 5 or six firefox windows are ok. and resizing the text editors is working. I will still appreciate any advice, but I will be fine to operate like this for now. I don't like the Ubuntu login tool bar on the left anyway. Why can we move that think to the bottom like every other window manager? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/752445 Title: Intermittent white window contents when maximizing/switching windows ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 745608] Re: [915GM] font corruption on Intel GMA900
Yes I have it too on Eepc 900 and also on desktop with 'Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02). All with Kubuntu. See attachment following. Had the same in Debian Squeeze. (same driver I guess, and older KDE). Do not see the problem on Natty Kubuntu with Nvidia card.
