[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 763130] Re: X hangs at startup (segfault in fglrx?) after Natty beta upgrade

2011-05-09 Thread Michael B
I had to completely remove the fglrx, removed xorg.conf, rebootet with
opensource radeon driver, and than I did a fresh install with jockey,
this solved the problem.

It looks like a problem with the upgrade procedure, the fglrx kernel
module was not build

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 779750] [NEW] Multiple Monitor Causes Partial Freeze

2011-05-09 Thread Jmadero
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

When I plug in my external monitor after boot and then go to Preferences
- Monitors my system has a partial freeze, everything becomes laggy,
mouse is unresponsive, can't go back into monitors to change the
configuration. Problem also occurs when I use xrandr command in
terminal. If I reboot with the external monitor plugged in the setup
works fine, but then if I go into monitors and change anything (ie.
primary monitor or resolution), the problems occur again.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 769846] Re: Can't Boot into natty after installing nvidia driver

2011-05-09 Thread prodrigestivill
Even with that parameters I also have the same problems some times.

If that still happend append vmalloc=256MB to the same string.

Just remember that as nvidia documentation says, this only affects
systems =4GB with 32bits kernel.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 776978] Re: everything on screen is garbled apart from the top bar (2 monitors, different resolutions, unity, natty)

2011-05-09 Thread Marc Tommasi
Same problem on a DELL E4200.
I was also unable to switch on an external display of 1920x1200 (and switch off
laptop screeen). I finally succeed in removing monitors.xml in .config, and
restart xorg. I suspect the bug is more related to compiz than xorg.
(I've also try to add an output of correct resolution in the general setting of
compiz, tab display settings, ... not sure whether this has changed something)

greetings!
I've created usb-stich with ubuntu dvd 11.04 and it proposed to use

Installation of the driver was successful.
No more bug here, thanks

 Hey Artem,

Hi, have you had a chance to test if this bug is still present in natty?

If it does (and if you're the original reporter), please boot into natty
 and run the command:

  apport-collect bug-number

which will update the bug with fresh logs and tag the bug as affecting
natty. (It is best to run this right after reproducing the problem.)

Hi guys,

The same thing is happening for me too (Ubuntu 11.04, release, ATI Technologies

fglrx though).
I'm attaching a screenshot of this.

(Sorry if this is not the best place to report this, but after long
searching, this was the 1st defect that seems very similar to what is
happening for me)

Thanks.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 576288] Re: second screen in dualhead setup doesn't refresh properly until reconfigured

2011-05-09 Thread Leif Arne Storset
Interestingly, gnome-screenshot doesn't see the display that doesn't
refresh properly. Whereas before the screenshot would be super-wide and
cover both displays, now it's regular 4:3 and covers only the display
that refreshes properly. Maybe that somehow is helpful to those that
know the code?

(I noticed because this bug allows Compiz's Wobbly Windows to make some
beautiful trails, and I wanted a screenshot. ;))

I am also affected by this bug. I am currently using an Asus n61 with
intel core i5.

As stated above there is no discernible pattern.
I am quite new to Ubuntu but, nonetheless I have a question. Since few people
seem to have this problem may it be that something in the update of the ubuntu
version went wrong and by reinstalling it it may be solved?

I've installed Ubuntu 11.04, and it is really really awful now. I found
a very similar issue on UbunutForums

person was unable to solve as well. I will try to change by graphics
driver to ATI (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RadeonDriver).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 756237] Re: wxRuby crashes with segmentation fault in pixman_image_composite32

2011-05-09 Thread Raedwulf
I've found out what causes this bug; I found this bug not in wxRuby, but
in wxLua---but its the same bug, using pixman 0.20.0 seems to fix it.

The offending commit (after trying each commit from 0.20.0 to 0.20.2 is:
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/pixman/commit/?h=0.20id=6718621c62ef03d1dd71c34242a873aba798e8aa

Yes, its a fix that broke it :P. After going through what it does, it
basically enables support for __thread if the compiler supports it, and
in this case gcc *does* support it.

However, it looks like there's either a bug with the gcc __thread
implementation, or how pixman uses __thread. Previously, such
functionality looks like it would have defaulted to a pthread
implementation.

Looks like this needs to be pushed upstream (somewhere), because the
same bug exists up to the current HEAD and disabling __thread support
fixes it.

I'm seeing the same thing, on Intel 945GME. Happens when using Metacity,
but not when using Compiz.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 576288] Re: second screen in dualhead setup doesn't refresh properly until reconfigured

2011-05-09 Thread Bryce Harrington
Natty ships with the r600g (g for gallium) now, as opposed to the r600
(with no gallium) that we shipped in maverick. r600g afaik does not
have a non-EXA alternative, so you'd need to boot the old driver to play
with that.

2011-05-09 Thread Christopher Dönselmann-Theile
I have this issue with nvidia hardware and the nvidia driver since 8.04
Always only while using compiz. But since compiz is now also unitys problem,
it's fair to say it's also an important one finally.

Tried severall workaround and some bring good performance but aspecially
videos will always tear a little bit with compiz and since alpha 2 from
natty also unde unity - of course.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 760632] Re: Resizing Konsole crashes the whole system

2011-05-09 Thread Szymon Tomasz Stefanek
I agree that it might be an interaction between X 1.10 and the nvidia drivers.
In my workaround I have also replaced X with an older version.

However the combination of X 1.10 and the 173 series of nvidia drivers
does not exhibit the issue here (it actually has different problems).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 758785] Re: [arrandale] Display flickers or blank on login (x86_64)

2011-05-09 Thread Stefan Stasik
Bryce: Yes! Thats exactly what is happening with the flicker on my
external monitor, too.

I appreciate your last write-up, and was just about to give up, and do a
clean reinstall of the official Natty release, because the support team
here in Montreal did a clean install on exactly my machine (Lenovo
X201); hooked an external monitor to the laptop, and he had no issues
with switching back and forth on the internal to external monitor. I am
also having other instability issues with the machine (randomly kernel-
crashing on me now) so I think this would be the best option for me.

Let me know if you still want me to proceed with your steps, otherwise I
will just do a clean re-install in the next couple of days.

I really appreciate your time and effort on this issue.

Regards, Stefan

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 741930] Re: [natty] nvidia binary packages for older cards - dependencies not met

2011-05-09 Thread Lars Ola Liavåg
I installed the updated driver from NVIDIA's web pages as it was claimed
to support xorg-server 1.10. However, it seems that the X server still
loads the Noveau routine and I don't know how to prevent that. So no
luck for me. Hope that with time, something is done with the distro-
provided drivers.

2011-05-09 Thread shankao
Timo was right, I had some PPA dependency problems at that moment.

@Fabrizio: last time I checked out this, wayland was not installable
cause the ubuntu's libcairo has not support for cairo-gl (that is
requeriment for the current wayland in ubuntu). cairo-gl was deactivated
as it gave multiple problems in other apps. Anyway, it's a separate bug.

Sorry to bother but...

There's also a similar bug report for NVIDIA users, see bug 760814.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 565697] Re: nvidia dual monitor seperate x server mouse cursor gets stuck

2011-05-09 Thread JayBofMA
This is similar to the issues that I have had since applying a security
update last week to Maverick. After the update cause significant
instability of the overall system, I was finally forced to upgrade to
Natty. Now I cannot get use of the second monitor in any satisfactory
manner.

With Xinerama I see nothing more than a mirror of Monitor 0. No
functionality on Monitor 1 at all.

Without Xinerama, I cannot drag windows to Monitor 0 as I need to do,
and I have to resort to using the dock on both monitors. And the larger
second display, Monitor 1, renders only the image of the primary display
at the same size, i.e. only 1280x800 of the larger monitor is used.

With TwinView there is very poor experience for two different
resolutions. And I find this setup useless.

With upgrades like this I might just have t remain using Windoze XP
Despite its lackluster performance.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 778083] Re: Switching workspaces does not always redraw everything necessary

2011-05-09 Thread Sven Berkvens-Matthijsse
A question for the other people who are also affected by this problem:
does the remaining-border-corruption ever happen to you on non-Gnome-
Terminal windows? I've been experimenting with some other windows, such
as a calculator or other small windows, and they never seem to have any
residue left over on them. Only Gnome Terminals seem to suffer from this
problem. Can any of you confirm or deny this?

Issues:
When setting wallpaper (via pcmanfm) or looking at png/jpeg (in GPicView) which
contains some kind of gradient/fading color, there's a very noticeable and very
ugly banding or striping instead of a smooth transition/blending between
colors. For example, with the default background in Lubuntu (
/usr/share/lubuntu/wallpapers/lubuntu-default-wallpaper.png ), background set
by default via pcmanfm looks like it is being viewed in 256 color, rather than
16 or 24 bit.

The same wallpaper, same file/size, used by lxdm (LXDE Desktop Manager)
looks absolutely fine at login stage, but not on the background which is
set by pcmanfm, which one sees once logged in.

# ls -l /usr/share/lxdm/themes/Lubuntu/wall.png
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 264722 2011-01-16 20:03
/usr/share/lxdm/themes/Lubuntu/wall.png
# ls -l /usr/share/lubuntu/wallpapers/lubuntu-default-wallpaper.png
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 264722 2011-01-16 20:03
/usr/share/lubuntu/wallpapers/lubuntu-default-wallpaper.png

The same banding issue appears when opening the files in GPicView.
However, it looks absolutely fine in `feh` (image viewer/background
setter), in gimp, and in firefox4.

The behavior is not specific to these backgrounds, as I've looked at
several other wallpapers w/ gradients that are supposed to look fine,
and the issue persists with the said applications (pcmanfm, GPicView).
The behavior is also not specific to the laptop's (1024x768) LCD screen,
as I've connected a Samsung LCD (SyncMaster 920NW) to the laptop and
seen the same exact degree of gradient-color-banding on it as well.

Upon further testing, the issue is exacerbated when I set the
DefaultDepth 24 in xorg.conf (and 24bpp depth confirmed from Xorg log).
That is, after stop/start lxdm - which was okay at 16bpp - it would then
show the severe banding/striping of gradient colors as well. This lead
me to believe is not an application specific bug, but an issue with
xorg's neomagic video driver.

Regardless of using a custom xorg.conf or conf-less Xorg (which defaults
to 16bpp depth), the issue remains. I've tried disabling various
neomagic-specific acceleration options (as detailed in `man neomagic`)
one by one, tried disabling acceleration altogether, tried starting X
with and without neofb framebuffer-console driver loaded (though I
cannot use Option ShadowFB - which is disabled by default - in xorg.conf
because I get blank screen with it enabled when neofb is also loaded.)
Tried using DirectColor rather than TrueColor for the screen's visual,
but that does not really work correctly on this chipset (neither in 16
or 24 bit depth).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 780094] [NEW] unity top panel corrupted, most applets invisible but work

2011-05-09 Thread indium
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

unity 3.8.12-0ubuntu1 corrupts the upper panel after some (random) time
when using the system (opening/closing/moving windows, etc). Just
updated to Natty on my MBP 6,2. See desktop image (attachment). The left
part of the panel contains a random part of a just-closed chromium-
browser window. The rest is 'transparent', but when clicking on some
spot on this bar, the menus do appear (wireless, logout, date/time,
etc).

The system is also sometime un-responsive for approx 1-2 seconds (mouse
gets stuck)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 778083] Re: Switching workspaces does not always redraw everything necessary

2011-05-09 Thread Sven Berkvens-Matthijsse
More corruption, not only window borders. I've attached an image where
part of a pop-up-context-menu in Thunderbird is not being drawn.

Another thing: when the corruption happens in the Gnome Panel, as in the
image that I've already attached in #5, it's the actual desktop
background that gets displayed instead of the Gnome Panel. In the
example image of #5, it looks black, but choosing another background
reveals that it's the background that's being displayed instead of the
Gnome Panel.

** Attachment added: Part of the popup-context-menu in Thunderbird is missing
