[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 780094] Re: unity top panel corrupted, most applets invisible but work

2011-05-25 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Sounds very similar to bug 769957 but the steps to reproduce are
different. Does the corruption for this bug look the same as when you
reproduce 769957?

Can you provide a screenshot? I don't see the aforementioned attachment.

I have an issue with icons with transparent backgrounds. The backgrounds
show black instead of transparent see attachment. This seems to happen
when connecting to remote hosts (via XDMCP). The transparency looks
fine however when the client is local to the server and even (I think)
when the client is accessed through ssh X11 forwarding.

I did a little bit of deduction and discovered that the issue is not
present if i downgrade to xf86-video-intel-2.13.0.

So far I've tried this when the remote machine is Gentoo (xfce) and
Ubuntu (gnome).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 82312] Re: [nvidia-glx] Using nvidia-glx driver, X is blank after install or upgrade (laptop/Geforce Go) without option UseDisplayDevice DFP

2011-05-25 Thread Emilian Bold
Thanks for the update, but I won't be trying to duplicate the bug and
re-open it on a newer Ubuntu release because that particular laptop
showing the bug died of old age.

It seems a bit odd to use 'Won't Fix' on a 4 year bug that was delayed
so much it got outside the LTS(!) window. There should really be another
classification for this kind of bugs.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 660596] Re: Black screen after installing Nvidia drivers on 10.10

2011-05-25 Thread Piranha
Me too. Installing 11.04 64-Bit solved my trouble with my notebook. I
had to activate propretary drivers and it worked like a charm.

Fixed in 11.04 I'd say.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 788021] [NEW] Radeon HD 6310 (amd e-350 zacate) needs nomodeset

2011-05-25 Thread Alejandro Mery
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

After I removed fglrx to narrow #787980 I had to add nomodeset to the
kernel command line to get something on the display.

no problem until I uninstalled fglrx, 3 reboots without display (but
ssh), 3 reboots with display using nomodeset, 2 reboots without display
without nomodeset, and surprise! one reboot with display without
nomodeset. filling ticket from that boot where modeset actually worked.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 787903] Re: ubuntu oneiric 2011525 daily-live image boots into blue screen

2011-05-25 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
The blue screen you're seeing is the nautilus background. The current
image is broken because ubiquity-dm crashes, metacity crashes and compiz
as well if your hardware supports 3D. It seems to be fixed today with
the update of libgdk-pixbuf and librsvg2.

This report doesn't include any information that would help to
determinate what's wrong in your case. Are you able to provide more
information ? otherwise it's safe to close it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 772207] Re: version 173.14.30 is buggy for NVidia GeForce FX series

2011-05-25 Thread Adrian Tritschler
Just another me too to the pile; upgraded from 10.10 to 11.04 on my P4
Shuttle X51 box and find that yet again, a ubuntu upgrade has broken
something -- they always do, every single one has broken something on my
system! As with all the others, I can run gnome2 and the Nvidia driver
reports activated but not in use

ajft@fafnir:~$ glxinfo | grep render
direct rendering: No (If you want to find out why, try setting
LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose)
OpenGL renderer string: GeForce FX 5200/AGP/SSE2
ajft@fafnir:~$ lspci|grep -i nVidia

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 777407] Re: Xorg freeze after Natty update - NVIDIA driver

2011-05-25 Thread dave charlton
I have also been affected by this.
My natty installation was working fine with the on board GPU on my HP dx2450.
However i added the Nvidia Quadro NVS290 to support my higher res monitor and
eventually move to a dual display configuration.
The new card works fine and appears in the nVidia X-server settings panel, but
freezes unpredictably requiring a reboot quite frequently. There doesnt seem to
be a pattern, although awaking from the screen saver was a reliable trigger
(blank screen doesnt appear to cause problem however). Other activities that
cause the freeze appear to be quite random.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 788094] [NEW] Sync xserver-xorg-input-vmmouse 1:12.7.0-2 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2011-05-25 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Public bug reported:

Please sync xserver-xorg-input-vmmouse 1:12.7.0-2 (main) from Debian
unstable (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
Previous version had only changes to build against the newer xserver in ubuntu.

Changelog entries since current oneiric version 1:12.6.99.901-1ubuntu2:

xserver-xorg-input-vmmouse (1:12.7.0-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * Pass --bindir=/bin to configure, lost in the dh-ification. Thanks to
Jordi Pujol for the bug (Closes: #625291).
  * Adapt .install file accordingly.

 -- Cyril Brulebois k...@debian.org Tue, 03 May 2011 12:48:40 +0200

xserver-xorg-input-vmmouse (1:12.7.0-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release.

 -- Cyril Brulebois k...@debian.org Sun, 10 Apr 2011 23:20:59 +0200

xserver-xorg-input-vmmouse (1:12.6.99.901-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * Switch to dh:
- Use debhelper 8.
- Use dh-autoreconf.
- Bump xserver-xorg-dev build-dep for dh_xsf_substvars and xsf
  debhelper sequence.
- Tweak vmmouse_detect's entry in .install, making explicit it is
installed under /usr/bin upstream, and shipped under /bin.
  * Remove xserver-xorg-input-vmmouse.postinst.in's .in suffix. There's
no need to do any substitution.
  * Remove xsfbs accordingly.
  * Remove long obsolete Replaces.
  * Update Uploaders list. Thanks, David Brice!
  * Wrap Depends/Provides.
  * Bump Standards-Version to 3.9.1 (no changes needed).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 788109] [NEW] Elan smart-pad (v5.2) recognized as PS2 mouse

Fresh install.

Linux 2.6.38-8-generic #42-Ubuntu Natty

00:05.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation C51PV [GeForce

First it fried my Macbook, now it refuses to run Unity on my ASUS box...
Rather disappointing so far.

@Chris, this was a fresh install. Others on the forums expressed the
same problems after an upgrade, but I wanted to keep this completely
clean, so I went with the new installation of Natty 11.04, and then
loaded all updates.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 728745] Re: [nvidia, 7300, 7400] display freeze when using unity desktop

2011-05-25 Thread John Cottier
Also with the Nouveau experimental 3D driver, the console (Ctrl+alt+f1
etc) does not work. You just get a non responsive screen. Ctrl+alt+f7
brings it to life again. Also plymouth still gives random black and
white stripes etc. This is not quite the most buggy Ubuntu yet (Gutsy
just dumped into a console with no X at all). But I am sick of the what
nVidia users are put through. It just goes on for years!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 776466] Re: no display with acer aspire 7715

2011-05-25 Thread die_kale
Something has changed, whilst starting up in the latest kernel shows no
screen (kinda like blindtyping here) there is a backlit screen after
logon of user. However, the brightness control seems to have traded
places. I.e. the left brightness down key INCREASES brightness, whilst
the right brightness up key DECREASES the amount of backlit-ism.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 776772] Re: Fatal Error: No screens found in xorg.o.log

2011-05-25 Thread Eric Hu
Had another crash today, so the intel driver didn't (completely?)
resolve the issue.

I upgraded my kernel to 2.6.38-8-generic by following the instructions
here: http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/linux-kernel-upgrade-howto/

Will update if I get another crash or am stable for several days.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 788319] [NEW] fujitsu s760 displays blank screen

2011-05-25 Thread Babar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I have been trying to install ubuntu 10.10 and 11.04 on my fujitsu S760 laptop.
The problem is that the installer cd boots into a blank screen with back light
turned on.
In case of 10.10 I managed to install using the kernel parameter
i915.modeset=0 but after installation it would boot into same situation. It
boots fine cause I can actually here all the sounds and can login with out
having any thing on the screen. Using the same i915.modeset=0 I managed to
boot into command line and setup my wireless and do a system update hoping it
might fix the issue but invain.

In case of 11.04 I managed to install using the nomodeset option. After
installation system would boot into blank screen. Giving nomodeset
during boot would take me to non-unity grpahical desktop. I upgraded the
system and even installed kernel ppa to get the latest kernel but
booting in that too does not fix my problem.

Currently I am running my ubuntu 11.04 in nomodeset on kernel 2.6.39-0
-generic-pae. I have found bugs 554569 and 585651 similar to mine but
both them should have been fixed in the kernel version I am running.

apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected natty running-unity ubuntu

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

  Here the details:

1.) Some areas in the GUIs of my wine applications appear as black
areas. This bug has been reported here
  (https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=30157) and here
(http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24430) and appear to be related
  to Xorg's Intel driver (2.12).

2.) The pull-down menus of the main panel or any window's menu fail to
appear after a first click. It usually needs a second click to show up.

I have a notebook with integrated Intel core GPU and a discrete ATI
Radeon GPU (HD 5600 series). The two issues mentioned above only
occurred while using the integrated Intel core GPU.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 771788] Re: nVidia driver activated and apparently being used but reported as not being used by jockey-gtk

2011-05-25 Thread AdrianChallinor
Hold on - loads of people report this as a bug. Its is such a bug I have
rebuilt my whole system on 10.10 because all my 3D graphics went west
with Tonto.

Is this some new meaning of the word invalid that I am not getting?

If it is not fixed in a customer release, this is still a valid bug. I
await confirmation of the fix

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 787998] Re: the mouse pointer freezes for a moment and goes in spurts in the lower right

2011-05-25 Thread Chris Wilson
Thanks a lot for reporting this, however this bug does not qualify as a
paper cut. A paper cut is a minor design flaw that was originally
intended to be a part of the default system, whereas issues like this
are just regular bugs that aren't supposed to be in there. I have
however forwarded the report to xorg-server, where it sounds like this
problem is occurring.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 771788] Re: nVidia driver activated and apparently being used but reported as not being used by jockey-gtk

2011-05-25 Thread Philippe Gauthier
I have marked the task about the nvidia-graphics-drivers-173 package as
invalid because this bug is caused by a problem in Jockey. In the
present report, the graphic drivers are enabled and probably work, but
the Additional Drivers window still says that the drivers are not being
used. If you -- or someone else -- have any other problem with the
proprietary Nvidia drivers, please report it as a different bug. I'm
sorry that I did not add this comment before because I wanted to limit
the number of comments that did not directly serve to fix the current
issue.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 771788] Re: nVidia driver activated and apparently being used but reported as not being used by jockey-gtk

2011-05-25 Thread AdrianChallinor
Phillipe,

This is disingenuous. Do you really think that users care whether it is
the driver, Jockey, Unity, or anything else that is the fault? The
simple fact is that it is not working.

I have a GeForce GTX 285, not a cheap card. It works under 10.10. Under
11.04 I get no 3d graphics, no compiz. Its a VGA card for all practical
purposes.

There is (or was) a bug report to that effect. Marking that bug as
invalid with so many people tracking it serves no practical purpose, but
does infuriate people. As a developer of over 35 years experience, it
sure infuriated me, so I guess I won't be alone.

This is a very serious issue: Canonical have release an upgrade that
cripples a lot of peoples PCs. It should have been found in testing and
I believe is serious enough to have stopped the release. It concerns the
major supplier of graphics cards, ergo a lot of people will have this
bug. In my mind, if this happened in my company, we would pull the
release and stoped further people getting in to problems until it was
fixed. Otherwise there is a very real danger of alienating users.

My regret is that due to personal circumstances I was not able to do a
full test on Beta1 or Beta2. Had I been able to do this I would have
found this earlier.

I still think that marking the bug as invalid was the wrong message to
send out. YMMV

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 788363] [NEW] Ubuntu not using entire screen

Public bug reported:

Also, while running, occasionally the screen will change and not take up
the entire area available.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 771788] Re: nVidia driver activated and apparently being used but reported as not being used by jockey-gtk

2011-05-25 Thread IsmAvatar
You must be new here. He's not marking the entire bug as invalid. A bug
can affect multiple things, and this bug has been marked as affecting
several things. However, sometimes some of the things aren't really
aspects of the bug, and should be marked as invalid, while other aspects
will be worked on.

For instance, suppose you have a bug System crashes after 30 seconds.
You can mark that it affects the linux kernel, the time module, and
xorg. However, after testing, we find out that xorg is perfectly fine,
as is the time module, and the real culprit is the latest linux kernel.
In this case, we'd mark the xorg and time module bugs as invalid, and
the linux kernel as confirmed. What you're seeing is just a technicality
of launchpad - in that instance, everyone on the System crashes bug's
mailing list would get a message saying Changed in xorg: status: new -
Invalid. This doesn't mean the bug itself is invalid, just that it
doesn't actually affect xorg after all.

Likewise, if you took a look at the systems that this bug affects, you
will see that it is currently Confirmed for Jockey and In Progress for
jockey (Ubuntu), while it does not affect (and is thus marked invalid
for) the NVidia Drivers.

tl;dr: The bug isn't invalid, he's just marking that it doesn't affect
NVidia Drivers, but it's still a problem for Jockey, which is still
marked as Confirmed/In Progress - so don't panic.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 728745] Re: [nvidia, 7300, 7400] display freeze when using unity desktop

2011-05-25 Thread Israel Vaughn
@ #86

Just installed the 275.09 drivers on Ubuntu 10.04, still has the compiz
freezing issue.

What I did to get around it (because it is just a display issue) was hit
Alt+F2 and then type (blindly) metacity --replace which gave me back
my desktop.

I can't downgrade because I write and compile CUDA code on this machine
for GTX 400 and 500 series and need all the machines to be synced on
CUDA SDK, driver, etc. (I have a 7300 GS as my display card, the other
cards are GPU computing cards).

Nvidia this sucks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 771788] Re: nVidia driver activated and apparently being used but reported as not being used by jockey-gtk

2011-05-25 Thread Antonio
Same problem here. The nvidia driver is activated but not in use. Unity
works and so does Compiz, but some effects are slower than before
(10.10).

Ubuntu sometimes freezes when using Boxee (that didn't happen before)
and I see some glitches in Flash videos with Firefox or with Chromium.

Glxgears also moves very slow, but it gives me around 2000fps, so
something happens.

Yesterday I tried to install the official nvidia package (NVIDIA-Linux-
x86_64-270.41.19.run) but after stopping GDM the nvidia script failed
(The distribution-provided pre-install script failed!).

Running lshw -c video I obtain the following:
WARNING: you should run this program as super-user.
  *-display
   description: VGA compatible controller
   product: G98 [GeForce 9300M GS]

WARNING: output may be incomplete or inaccurate, you should run this program as
super-user.

so it seems that I'm not running the correct driver.

With these driver I was able to play Armagetron and Dark Places Quake,
so it's not too bad for me.

Any ideas are welcome.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 788428] [NEW] screen blacks out and locks up during 3d gameplay

2011-05-25 Thread T_W
Public bug reported:

I am running Lucid with a nVidia Corporation GT216 [GeForce GT 220]. I
have had this exact configuration for 1 year and it had been running
stable.

Starting approximately 1 month ago, I began to experience strange screen
black out and lock ups when running 3d games. I have seen this with
Trine, Steel Storm, Aquaria, etc.

These lock ups seem to be accompanies by the following messages in
/var/log/messages:

kernel: [100573.805121] NVRM: os_pci_init_handle: invalid context!

Sometimes, I can log into the system via SSH. In one case I managed to
capture dmesg output while the screen was locked. I found the
following:
