Public bug reported: When I log into Ubuntu my screen works fine, but if I suspend my machine and resume it or switch to a VT (e.g. Ctrl-F1) and then back to X, my monitor then has an incorrect refresh rate and the screen is misaligned as you can see in the photos attached. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 846652] Re: Monitor screen misalignment and incorrect refresh rate when switching VTs and unsuspending
Run sudo xdiagnose and flip on graphics debugging messages (the first checkbox), then reboot, reproduce the bug, and collect a fresh dmesg; that may provide more details about what KMS thinks about the monitor's modelines. It looks like you upgraded to oneiric about 2 months ago; presumably this issue only began recently? If this is the case, can you recall roughly when you first noticed it? This type of bug is often in the kernel drm layer; you can often verify this hypothesis by booting some older (or newer) kernels. You might still have some installed (-8 or -9 would be worth trying); you can get into the boot menu by holding the left shift key during boot. Or if not, you can obtain mainline snapshot kernels (which should be sufficient for testing purposes) at http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel- ppa/mainline/. We also recently uploaded the 1.10.4 X server, which was principally a debug release, but if this behavior only started since yesterday, it's possible you discovered a regression in that. There weren't really very many changes there compared with what was in previously, but due to the timing it should be included in the suspects list. ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/846652 Title: Monitor screen misalignment and incorrect refresh rate when switching VTs and unsuspending To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/846652/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 379659] [NEW] gnome-screensaver causes system hang
You have been subscribed to a public bug: This is not a re-post of 341129 or 107504 (I've checked them out). One refers to a problem during system suspend (my problem is on a desktop, no suspend) and the other refers to bad NVidia drivers, which the rest of my report should cancel out. Gnome-screensaver was working OK for me with blank screen. Switching to blinkbox, a fairly undemaning GL-pbased screensaver, causes the system to hang completely when the screensaver is automatically invoked at the timeout. Note that the setup and preview screens for this screensaver worked fine. The problem is reproducable -- but it's quite difficult to get any kind of logging when the only recourse was a altsysrqb reboot. Other GL-based apps work fine, and I'm running Compiz. Also, replacing gnome-screensaver with xscreensaver and selecting the same screensaver (blinkbox) does not reproduce the problem. The issue must therefore be something in gnome-screensaver. The issue is a show-stopper. I can't seem to get out of the problem without a hard or altsysrq reset. Public bug reported: It is not possible to estimate after which wake up, the machine would hang, but it well happen finally. It is also not possible to switch to a virtual console and eventually I have to do a hard reset. This behaviour happened after uprgrading to Ubuntu 11.04. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 774434] Re: mouse pointer disappears in ubuntu 11.04
I've just: 1) Added xorg to the bug because I'm also seeing in a KDE session inside a kvm guest on a separate machine - the KDE session is actually built from source, rather than kubuntu. However given it's the same symptoms and gtk shouldn't be involved it sounds like it may be more widespread. 2) I knocked gtk's state out of 'incomplete' since questions had been answered since it was set. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 838577] [NEW] GNOME Shell display problems with FGLRX
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Major display issues with Gnome Shell on a clean and updated install of 11.10. I suspect it's due to running ATI graphics with fglrx since I don't have issues on my netbook. Basically the top panel is completely garbled and a mess of different colours; at times I can notice the global menu from the Unity panel in the background of the Gnome Shell panel. Also various letters in the panel text appear as teal-coloured rectangles of various sizes. I tried to get a screenshot, but the screenshot tool just displays an empty wallpaper. Display issues also occur for example in the Alt+F2 dialogue box. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 838577] Re: GNOME Shell display problems with FGLRX

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 838577] Re: GNOME Shell display problems with FGLRX
I just want to add that if the open source graphics driver works, you should try that. From re-reading the comments on the other bug report, I think the fglrx update to fix this won't even be released until after 11.10 is. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/838577 Title: GNOME Shell display problems with FGLRX To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/838577/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
