[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 876520] Re: mouse cursor gone

The grub method didn't work for me on two machines (stock standard
Lenovo T60).

Interestingly, if I logout the mouse pointer appears in the GDM login
screen, then it works fine when I login.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 877129] [NEW] New version (11.9) available

2011-10-18 Thread Jeroen Keiren
Public bug reported:

A new version of fglrx is available from ATI. It seems that this version fixes
the color distortions in Gnome3 with gnome-shell enabled. More info is also
available from http://ati.cchtml.com/show_bug.cgi?id=99.
This version does leave some tearing when using gnome-shell, but at least it
makes it usable.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 877051] [NEW] dual monitors not recognized

2011-10-18 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When I run 11.10 from live CD both monitors displayed in mirror mode.
Went to system settings/Display, unchecked Mirror Displays. Left and
right were reversed so switched using drag and drop. Success!
[Correctly identified Dell monitor but LG monitor was incorrectly
identified as something generic. However, everything was working fine.]

Proceeded with installation. (FYI, installed on existing ext4
partition. Boot partition - also ext4 - is not mounted.) Selected to use
additional proprietary software. Additional software showed NVIDIA
Accelerated Graphics driver (version 173) was installed. Tried (post-
release updates)(version 173-update) and (version current) and
(post-release updates)(version current-updates) to no avail.

Had similar problem at 9.04. Found solution in forum. However, since
the live CD installation seems to work, was hoping to avoid having to
hack the installation. Should I have chosen to not include the
proprietary drivers?

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 805303] Re: Gtk-CRITICAL **: IA__gtk_widget_style_get: assertion `GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed with the default qt4 gui

2011-10-18 Thread Aurélien Gâteau
Le 17/10/2011 17:01, EricDHH a écrit :
Yes that's it, my suggestion is a script that clears out this config by
 update. Thanks!

Unfortunately we can't do that automatically: packages are not allowed
to modify user configuration files at upgrade.

My guess on what goes wrong is that when vlc was started with versions
of qt and gtk older than the ones I mentioned, it stored a huge window
size before dying. Now that it is started again, it tries to resize the
window to the stored size and dies again.

I don't think the config file can go wrong for stable-only users (ie
users who did not use vlc with qt and gtk from Oneiric alpha or beta) so
that should limit the affected users to people who are more
computer-savvy and can find this bug report. If stable-only users are
affected, we could however patch vlc to limit the size of the restored
window.

2011-10-18 Thread TomaszChmielewski
I was experiencing a similar one after upgrading to 11.10 - garbage on

Luckily, installing the latest kernel from http://kernel.ubuntu.com

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 728745] Re: [nvidia, 7300, 7400] display freeze when using unity desktop

2011-10-18 Thread John Cottier
@Ray No I have not tried startup manager since it did not work in 10.04.
I used the v86d framebuffer method to (sort of) fix that. But the none
working console issue is quite disturbing. I wonder if it is related to
the boot splash issue. IE some kernel mode that is borking something
else. I was hoping this would be sorted out in 11.10 but it looks like
maybe its 12.04 now.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 877262] Re: Desktop tearing on a Sony Vaio VGN-SR21M when on battery

2011-10-18 Thread Alessandro Lazzari
Notice that tearing is only visible on the laptop's own screen. If you attach
an external monitor, the desktop on that one won't show any problem.
If both monitors are active, only the laptop's one will show the problem, while
the external one won't.
I tried this with an old Samsung SyncMaster 171s LCD connected via an analog
VGA port. Can't test what might happen with a DVI connection.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 813343] Re: nvidia drivers, second monitor covered by black

2011-10-18 Thread psypher
Hi Axel,

I tried all of that but still to no avail. As soon as I try setting
twinview again the screen corrupts, times out and is back to normal.
replacing my working xorg.conf and restarting still yields the same
issues when going in to expo mode, I still get the errors on boot and
themes are still broken especially in nautilus. Made no difference.

Any response from Jay as this is still marked as invalid and we have
proved this is not a nvidia issues but a unity issue?

Unity is effectively completely broken when using twinview, whether
trying to set it or using a known natty working xorg. It's unusable and
since I ONLY work with a twinview setup oneiric is a useless to me.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 868400] Re: Synaptics touchpad stops working

2011-10-18 Thread gigipin
I have a solution that i've tested before.

My problem was that the touchpad didn't work on start up, but only on
log in. In the Xorg's log the SynPS/2 was recognised, but i suppose
there may be a link problem with the driver, so i've adjusted the xorg
configuration.

I've created a new empty /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and set the following
rules in it:

Section InputClass
Identifier Touchpad # required
MatchIsTouchpad yes # required
Driver synaptics # required
Option MinSpeed 0.5
Option MaxSpeed 1.0
Option AccelFactor 0.075
Option TapButton11
Option TapButton22 # multitouch
Option TapButton33 # multitouch
Option VertTwoFingerScroll 1 # multitouch
Option HorizTwoFingerScroll 1 # multitouch
Option VertEdgeScroll1
Option CoastingSpeed 8
Option CornerCoasting1
Option CircularScrolling 1
Option CircScrollTrigger 7
Option EdgeMotionUseAlways 1
Option LBCornerButton8 # browser back btn
Option RBCornerButton9 # browser forward btn
EndSection

This is working perfectly for me, is not necessary set all commands like
me only the required ones, perhaps the cause is a command line, in
/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-synaptics.conf, wrong and may be this:

MatchDevicePath /dev/input/event*

2011-10-18 Thread Adolfo R. Brandes
Any news on how to handle this on Oneiric? Neither yurivkhan's or
o.shybystyi's PPAs have been updated to 11.10 (and naturally, there is
still no way to configure this on Gnome itself).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 877051] Re: dual monitors not recognized

2011-10-18 Thread Bruce Visscher
BTW, my NVIDIA card is Geforce 8600 GT.
Tried removing the proprietary driver to no avail.

Noticed that the live CD does not have an /etc/X11/xonf.conf file so I
did:

cd /etc/X11
mv xorg.conf xorg.conf.bak

restarted and no difference.

I have attached the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file that was working under 9.04.
I am tempted to try restoring that but isn't 11.10 running a major new
release of X?

Tried with attached xorg.conf (but without the proprietary drivers

working. I still don't understand why dual monitors worked from the
live CD without an xorg.conf but the installed OS doesn't.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 550625] Re: Alps touchpad is recognized but synaptics clients and scrolling do not work

2011-10-18 Thread lessoffensive
Thanks so much for the work Seth! I'm unfortunately unable to try it as
I'm running a newer kernel (3.1.0-rc7), which seems to have non trivial
changes to the elantech driver. Do you think this patch is going to go
into the mainline anytime soon? If not, would you be potentially
willing to create a patch for the 3.1 kernel?

Thanks for the attention to this long standing bug, regardless!!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 813343] Re: nvidia drivers, second monitor covered by black

2011-10-18 Thread Axel Pospischil
OK - just for a workaround: if Unity(3D) is not working. Are you able to
use unity2d?

It works (almost) perfectly on my different twinview workplaces. That's
what I am doing since I have massive performance issues on my 128MB
nvidia quadro NVS140M card - which is older, but normally should be
not that bad for 3D ;)

This is really, really weird and I agree with you, this is not only a
bug in nvidia, but might be with unity nvidia twinview.

Should be a new thread specially for unity(3d).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 877389] [NEW] Xorg crash on login screen

2011-10-18 Thread Jason Hanley
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to oneiric, X has been crashing at the login screen
after turning on my computer. This happens often, but not all the time.
Sometimes it seems to crash rather quickly, and other time it crashes
when I try to login. After it crashes, I usually just restart my
computer and it works fine then.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 877010] [NEW] Keyboard freezes at random

2011-10-18 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

My keyboard freezes at random or gets stuck on repeated input. I started
with a clean install of 11.04, had the problem form the beginning and it
persisted when I upgraded to 11.10. I use a desktop PC and my keyboard
is a plain PS2 type. My mouse that is USB never freezes.

I made a script on my desktop so I can run it to collect some log files
when the problem occurred. Sure enough, I caught some errors but I have
no idea how to fix this. I'm not really an advanced linux user, so I
attach these logs in the hope that some of you might help me out.

Bryce, I'm experiencing this very bug on a computer with the open source
intel driver using gnome-shell. So this is definitely not specific to
fglrx.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 837456] Re: [Oneiric] XTestFakeKeyEvent changes keyboard mapping to 'us'

2011-10-18 Thread Dave Hughes
This appears to affect anything which uses XTestFakeKeyEvent. For
example, I use KeePassX, a password database with auto-type
functionality (apparently implemented with XTestFakeKeyEvent). My
keyboard is set to United Kingdom, yet when I use auto-type with (for
example) a username including an ampersand (some...@somewhere.org) the
ampersand becomes a double-quote (i.e. it enters someonesomewhere.org
instead - the double-quote on a US keyboard is where the ampersand is on
a UK keyboard). From reading a couple of forum posts it would appear
Synergy (a cross-platform keyboard/mouse sharing application) is
affected as well.

The setxkbmap workaround mentioned in the report fixes the issue
temporarily for KeePassX (and apparently Synergy), but it would be nice
to have something more permanent. I first noticed this with Oneiric
(auto-type worked fine under Lucid, Maverick and Natty).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 816075] Re: X crashes when Impress antialiasing on Lenovo X220 Intel drivers

2011-10-18 Thread Robert Harrison
Running on a Thinkpad X1 (sandybridge) I was experiencing random crashes
of libreoffice (impress and writer) until I disabled the antialiasing
after which I have not experienced a single crash. To verify this was
the cause I turned antialiasing back on and sure enough the problem
returned.

You can reload psmouse module after a wake-up in order to resolve the problem.
It's just a work around but it could really be helpfull...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 877010] Re: Keyboard freezes at random

2011-10-18 Thread Shikada Sorel
Thank you Thomas!

I only wrote it's an compiz issue because I though I had to name a
package, and one of the logs reported an compiz segfault. I'm aware the
problem might not be related to compiz at all, but I wasn't sure. This
is the first bug report I ever submitted, so still new to this ;)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 876711] Re: Screen brightness resets to minmized when screen turns off

2011-10-18 Thread Kamal Mostafa
@Bobik-s, and others experiencing this problem... Thanks for reporting
this issue.

The primary problem here appears to be the same problem as reported in
LP: #872652 (screensaver backlight stuck off, system looks hung), for
which I have developed a test patch. This PPA supplies an installable
gnome-settings-daemon package with the patch applied:

https://launchpad.net/~kamalmostafa/+archive/gnome-settings-daemon

Please add that PPA to your system, log out and then back in again so
that it takes effect, then check your backlight behavior. Does that
resolve the problem(s), partially or completely? Post your results to
this bug.

they can’t fix (neither Unity nor Unity 2D work with the broken libGL).

Happening to me too. I upgraded from 11.04 and I cannot make X start
anymore. My Nvidia is a GeForceM GT. I am lucky to have my Ubuntu CLI,
though, so I can keep on updating and upgrading.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 877686] [NEW] [Latitude E6510] External DisplayPort does not work with Nouveau driver

2011-10-18 Thread Jeff Lane
Public bug reported:

Testing Oneiric on the E6510. During testing, attempted to connect a
monitor using the system's external DisplayPort video port. The system
was running nouveau. This port is completely inoperative with nouveau
driver. (it's also inop with nvidia_current).

The logs may indicate that the system is using nvidia rather than
nouveau, that is because I tested this with nouveau, then installed
nvidia_current to verify the behaviour and that's what's currently
installed and running.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 768893] Re: System crashes when cdemu is present

2011-10-18 Thread Henrik
It's been 1 month and no answer so based on the fact that removing the
cdemu daemon remedied the problem, I'm going to presume it was a vhba
issue and most likely already fixed upstream (current version works fine
on kernel 3.0.0 or prior). Marking as Invalid bug for xorg-server.

** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu)
   Status: New = Invalid
