[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 923285] [NEW] X freeze with nouveu when doing intensive tasks
Public bug reported: When doing certain tasks, X freezes when nouveau is in use. (nvidia is not used, I know that because switching to a tty is fast and the tty has the right font size). This happens maybe one or two times a day when doing certain tasks. This time I changed the display settings in xfce4-display settings: rotation from 'normal' to 'left' (just to try what would happen). Also starting Opera sometimes causes the system to freeze (Opera uses hardware acceleration AFAIK). It also happens sometimes that revealing the launcher in Unity causes the system to freeze. Symptoms: * Mouse still works, but clicking has no effect * keyboard doesn't work, not even the Caps Lock key. Switching to another TTY thus doen't work * I can log in via SSH, although that is very slow. This way I have collected the bug information (via apport-cli -f) * It happens in both Unity and XFCE with Compiz enabled. $ dpkg --list | grep nvidia\|nouveau\|mesa ii libdrm-nouveau1a2.4.26-1ubuntu1 Userspace interface to nouveau-specific kernel DRM services -- runtime ii libdrm-nouveau1a:i386 2.4.26-1ubuntu1 Userspace interface to nouveau-specific kernel DRM services -- runtime ii libgl1-mesa-dri 7.11-0ubuntu3 free implementation of the OpenGL API -- DRI modules ii libgl1-mesa-glx 7.11-0ubuntu3 free implementation of the OpenGL API -- GLX runtime rc libgl1-mesa-glx:i3867.11-0ubuntu3 free implementation of the OpenGL API -- GLX runtime ii libglapi-mesa 7.11-0ubuntu3 free implementation of the GL API -- shared library rc libglapi-mesa:i386 7.11-0ubuntu3 free implementation of the GL API -- shared library ii libglu1-mesa7.11-0ubuntu3 Mesa OpenGL utility library (GLU) ii mesa-utils 8.0.1+git20110129+d8f7d6b-0ubuntu2 Miscellaneous Mesa GL utilities ii nvidia-common 1:0.2.35 Find obsolete NVIDIA drivers rc nvidia-current-updates 280.13-0ubuntu5 NVIDIA binary Xorg driver, kernel module and VDPAU library ii nvidia-settings-updates 280.13-0ubuntu1 Tool of configuring the NVIDIA graphics driver ii xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:0.0.16+git20110411+8378443-1 X.Org X server -- Nouveau display driver (experimental) $lspci | grep VGA 02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation C77 [GeForce 8200] (rev a2) ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/923285 Title: X freeze with nouveu when doing intensive tasks To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/923285/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 923421] [NEW] When any application accesses tv card the display resets to login.
Public bug reported: lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu precise (development branch) Release:12.04 apt-cache policy xorg xorg: Installed: 1:7.6+10ubuntu1 Candidate: 1:7.6+10ubuntu1 Version table: *** 1:7.6+10ubuntu1 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status This is fresh upgrade from oniric to precice. The Oniric install had no problems running tvtime mplayer or vlc. Whenever any of these application accesses the tvcard using fglrx drivers the display crashes to login. For example if I start tvime, the application opens normally but then switches to fullscreen and then immediately closes. This occurs even if I run with a -M switch which instructs tvtime to run in window. This does not occur with the radeon/mesa drivers. I tried both the fglrx:2:8.911-0ubuntu2 and built from installer package fglrx:2:8.930-0ubuntu1.
