[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993363] Re: html5 video crashes in firefox 12.04

2012-05-11 Thread MarekH
The same situation is for manually installed drivers 295.49. Graphics
card: NVIDIA 8800 GTS (320MB RAM).

When activated Youtube's HTML5 beta - during playback of any videos
there is too high CPU usage of firefox (50%) + compiz (30%) + Xorg
(20%). Video was not HD - just 360p. When playback is stopped or other
tab is being wathech the use cpu usage of firefox drops to cca. 7% or
27% respectively. The format of the video is probably webm - or whatever
is youtube serving as html5 videos. The fullscreen mode playback is
unusable - it is being refreshed too slowly - cca. each 2-3 seconds.

After while it restarts X and offers login screen.

When Youtube's HTML5 beta is deactivated - i.e. it is played via flash,
the situation looks normal - firefox uses cca 10% of CPU, plugin-
container (decoding flash) about 30%. Compiz (20%) + Xorg (10%)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 975689] Re: X freezes completely running google earth on xserver-xorg-video-intel - IPEHR: 0x7a000002

2012-05-11 Thread Chris Polderman
I have encountered this one once more even though i had added the
workaround to the X session start sequence.

As I suspect that the GPU is completely reinitialized when suspending (I
do that a lot), I have now added it to the sleep/suspend sequence:

/etc/pm/sleep.d/20_intel_workaround
(do not forget to make it executable)
--

#!/bin/sh

case $1 in
  hibernate|suspend) echo Intel workaround;;
  resume|thaw)   intel_reg_write 0x2120 0x1206800;;
esac

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 64bit completely freezes frequently

2012-05-11 Thread Robert Loggs
Same problem, freezing completely no input response at all. It
definately looks like there's two bugs here:

One where just the display freezes CTRL/ALT/F1 allows access to a terminal.
One where system locks completely requiring hard reboot.

I'm guessing the hard freeze issues relate to a bug here which seems to be
affecting multiple distros:

Yes indeed, the value gets back to 0x1206820 after resuming from S3.

However, I can inform you that with this workaround my sandybridge
laptop has been running for the third day in a row without freezing,
whereas before that I usually had had up to several freezes a day (since
I suspend my machine quite a lot).

like a duplicate issue. Anyways, so far, so good. I'll report if the

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 995013] Re: Xorg freeze after lid closed/opened (screen turned off/on) several times

2012-05-11 Thread Nick Rhodes
From the console you can get back to the login screen by issuing the
following command:

sudo service lightdm restart

This has the same effect of killing Xorg as Alt+Print+K - kills the
session without logging out and saving data.

Cheers, Nick.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 64bit completely freezes frequently

2012-05-11 Thread Skully
Not sure if its related but i have a similar problem after the upgrade from
10.04 to 12.04.
I usually get a freeze when i close tabs in my browser (often with flash
elements, Opera) or just opening a link with a flash video.

After a while opera will be responsive again since the plugin are called
in a separate process (plugin-wrapper) which crashes and will start
again.

Also using x64 system with NVidia 9600GT and Gnome3 (gnome-shell).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 980519] [NEW] Random log off in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

2012-05-11 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I get logged off from Ubuntu sometimes. There is no error message or any
indication that it is going to log off. The screen goes black, and after
2-4 seconds, i get presented with the Ubuntu Log On Screen.

There is no clear pattern (or at least if have not noticed any). One
time i am working with Netbeans, another time i am using firefox. This
also means that at present i can not clearly say what package might be
causing this behaviour.

I am fairly sure the problem lies in 12.04 (or more precise - the
combination of 12.04 and the hardware i am using). I do not have the
same problem running 11.04 or 11.10.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 994203] Re: Xorg freeze with Nouveau drivers

2012-05-11 Thread Luke Plant
I'm getting this quite regularly with LibreOffice when scrolling using
the scroll wheel. It has happened twice in Writer, within an hour, and
just now in Calc within a few minutes of opening it.

The whole interface freezes and does not respond to anything, but the
mouse still moves. I can still switch to a VT and run commands from
there. Restarting lightdm restores the system without a reboot.

I can't find anything in the logs that seems relevant, unfortunately -
looked in dmesg, kernlog, syslog, ~/.xsession-errors

Please let me know if there are commands I can run from a VT to help
debug this, as not being able to use LibreOffice without risking this is
a real killer for me.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 982710] Re: [regression] Nvidia 295.40 driver is extremely slow

2012-05-11 Thread rmcd
As a test I installed 302.07. It exhibits the same problem of initial
snappy response and then, after a period, several-second delays in
certain graphical tasks. Moreover, it takes 5 times longer to run the
matlab 3-D benchmark than did any of the 295.x series.

On the whole, in my experience 295.20 is the least broken of the group
that I have tried (295.2, 295.4, 295.49, 302.07).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 975414] Re: lightdm failed to run

2012-05-11 Thread rich
After updating the system was loaded into the graphics mode when you select the
first item(run in low-graphics mode for just one session),
but as I said start GDM, not lightdm.
At the same time if I remove the gdm, the system in graphical mode does not
start.

I also noticed that a sad moment.
Stopped working a second monitor.
I used xrandr
  xrandr - output VGA-0 - left-of LVDS
and get message:
xrandr: screen cannot be larger than 1280x1280 (desired size 2560x800)

However, if I try to configure a second monitor via the gnome-control-center:
Failed to apply configuration
GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.UnknownMethod: Method:
Interface «org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.XRANDR_2» /org/gnome/SettingsDaemon/XRANDR

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 926714] Re: continuous jerky mouse movements while using nouveau driver in 12.04

2012-05-11 Thread Colin Svingen
I can confirm that jones' solution has fixed the problem on my Lenovo
W510. I have had this problem since (at least) 11.04, but it appeared
to be slightly improved in 11.10 or 12.04 (freezing for a shorter
duration).

Additionally, as this may not be obvious to all users, I had to run the
command with sudo. However, just running

# sudo echo N /sys/module/drm_kms_helper/parameters/poll

did not work. I had to run

# sudo -i

then

# echo N /sys/module/drm_kms_helper/parameters/poll

Thanks jones! This issue has been bugging me for a year or more.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 972109] Re: Six Screens For GeForce GT 130M

2012-05-11 Thread heian
Hi Jactry,

Thanks for your reply!

I know the EnableBrightnessControl= line, it let the brightness work
with the proprietary driver.

But what does the NoTotalSizeCheck line doing? Is it to solve the 'Six
Screens' problem?
And what do you mean by: let the graphics work 'temporarily'

(I wish i could join this thread and post my findings here, but i can start
playing around with
the laptop after half of June. Really need to work with if for now)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 978968] Re: [IGDgm] False GPU lockup EIR: 0x00000010 PGTBL_ER: 0x00010000 render.IPEHR: 0x01000000 - while using matlab

2012-05-11 Thread avlas
Could somebody build a deb package with that patch? I'd be more than
happy to test it!

Although this issue is very annoying as it impedes to use matlab at all,
I found a (non ideal) workaround that may be useful for you as well,
which is to only use opengl by software (type 'opengl software' in the
matlab console at startup).

As I said using opengl by software is not ideal but at least matlab
doesn't crash my system anymore...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 921236] Re: [12.04 Xorg, xserver 1.11.3] Dual monitor, after entering password, mouse pointer stuck on LHS of screen, no desktop.

2012-05-11 Thread Paul d'Aoust
I can confirm this bug -- also using built-in Intel 3400 graphics on a
Sandybridge processor. Similar problems -- although, instead of getting
a mousepointer stuck on the edge of the screen, the whole thing often
goes blank.

This patched package linked by doowttam fixed the issue for me, until an
update came through the regular repos, replaced the fixed version, and
screwed everything up again. I hope it gets fixed in downstream soon!
(Yes, I know I can hold the package version, but I would like to get
updates when they come.)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 980519] Re: Random log off in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

2012-05-11 Thread Reason
Tested 302 for a couple of days. Have been working with it for 10 hours
straight today everything seemed fine.
Got home started my laptop again and x-server crashed twice in 1 hour.
This issue should be a prio 1. I've lost work because of this!

Seriously considering another distribution at the moment, this shouldn't
happening especially not in a LTS release

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 64bit completely freezes frequently

2012-05-11 Thread yorgasor
I've been using the last kernel released with 11.10 since my crash
yesterday. So far, I haven't had any problems. If I can last another
day, I'll be 95% sure that solved the problem. I don't think I've gone
2 days since my upgrade on this computer. Oddly enough, I've upgraded 3
other laptops as well, one of which has an nvidia Quadro NVS 140M, but
so far only my dual xeon w/ 24G ram nvidia gt9600 workstation is
having this problem. Only one of my laptops is running x64, but the one
with the nvidia card is i386.

It looks like some people suffering from this problem have ATI cards
and/or are on i386 as well, so maybe that isn't the common denominator.

2012-05-11 Thread Justin Milatz
I just installed 295.49-0ubuntu0.1.deb from the quantal repository onto a fresh
istall of 12.04 64bit and can confirm that this solves the problem. So far
performance feels higher than when using nouveau.
I am running a gforce8800gtx.
The aforementioned problem had occured right after installing 12.04 and had
previously been present under 11.10 as well.
In both cases purging nvidia current solved the problem.

I think /var/log/Xorg.o.log and the output of lspci -vvnn would be a

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 996821] Re: vmmouse 12.8 behaves erratically in when running as a VMware guest

2012-05-11 Thread Johann MacDonagh
Just an update. I have been in touch with the developers of vmmouse.
We've determined the issue occurred with commit 189dc266 (
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-input-
vmmouse/commit/?id=189dc266a66485d48303acbc1a4fbe4642c75e9f ). A very
simple change. I've rebuild my 12.8 package with that commit reverted
and it works great.

It seems this may only affect Windows 7 x64 hosts (and maybe more). The
upstream devs could not reproduce on a Linux host.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 989335] Re: Intuos4 map button settings applied after replugging

2012-05-11 Thread Timo Aaltonen
that must be something wrong in gnome-settings-daemon, which is what
applies the settings to the devices.

** Package changed: xf86-input-wacom (Ubuntu) = gnome-settings-daemon
(Ubuntu)

** Summary changed:

- Intuos4 map button settings applied after replugging
+ Intuos4 map button settings applied only after replugging

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 416516] Re: Touchpad isn't sensitive enough on MacBook 5, 2

2012-05-11 Thread David Duffey
I gave a partial solition in step #61 above which worked great after
loging in, but it didn't seem like the display manager would pick up the
change.

Instead, I found the follow solution completely resolved the problem for
me: create /etc/modprobe/appletouch.conf with the following:

options appletouch threshold=2

Now it works w/o the hack in #61. Maybe it is possible to change the
appletouch module to default to 2 (instead of 5), or use a device ID to change
the default for certain ids.

My touchpad USB id is 05ac:021a

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 975689] Re: X freezes completely running google earth on xserver-xorg-video-intel - IPEHR: 0x7a000002

2012-05-11 Thread Rocko
** Description changed:

When I run google-earth 6.2.1.6014-r0 using the Sandy Bridge GPU, X
freezes while zooming in on a location. For instance this happens when I
type 'Caversham WA' into the Google Earth search: X freezes about half-
  way through the animation.
+
+ Workarounds are:
+
+ 1. Use kernel 3.4-rc5 or later (eg from the mainline Ubuntu kernels at
+ http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/)
+
+ 2. Patch the stock 3.2 kernel with the patch at comment #12.
+
+ 3. Apply the workaround described at
+ https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47535. For more information
+ see comments #24, #34, and #35.
+

This happens in Unity, Unity2d, or gnome-shell in Ubuntu 12.04.

X completely freezes so that I can't even switch to a tty console.
However, I can still ssh into the machine from a remote location.
Restarting lightdm has no effect but I can reboot the PC.

If I run google-earth through the nvidia card on this PC (using
bumblebee/optirun) there is no problem. google-earth also runs fine in a
VM on this machine using the VirtualBox OSE graphics drivers, and it
also runs fine on another PC with only an nvidia card.

The Xorg.0.log file reports EQ overflowing and gives a number of
backtraces (the Xorg.0.log is attached in case apport didn't find it).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 998295] [NEW] package fglrx 2:8.960-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-removal script returned error exit status 1

2012-05-11 Thread Alaroldai
Public bug reported:

Observed immediately after upgrading to Ubuntu 12.04 - AMD graphics
wouldn't allow multi-desktop extended display (mirroring only).
Attempted to change to using the post-release updates option through the
Additional Drivers program, at which point this error occurred. Now I
continually get system program problem detected messages, often about
one of the amd programs (I think it's amdcccle-something?) exiting
unexpectedly.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 996821] Re: vmmouse 12.8 behaves erratically in when running as a VMware guest

2012-05-11 Thread Johann MacDonagh
Adar: Beats me. I'm by no means an expert on how upstream determines
what gets packaged where. I can tell you that the VMware devs have
reverted the commit (http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-input-
vmmouse/commit/?id=2a321a39350aa020a8103813bed61ff559088195), but they
haven't tagged or released that code yet.

Below are some instructions you can follow to rebuild the package that
reverts the change. After doing this, your mouse should function
properly. You'll have a new version of the vmmouse with the version
string 12.8.0-1revert189dc266. It looks ugly, but hopefully if a fix
is ever released the version string will be 12.8.0-2, and this quick
rebuild will be overwritten. Let me know if I did that version string
wrong.

Anyway, enter these commands in a terminal window. I suggest copying and
pasting one by one rather than all at once, just in case one command
fails:

# Install dependencies
sudo apt-get install build-essential devscripts patch wget
sudo apt-get build-dep xserver-xorg-input-vmmouse

# Create directory to build in
rm -rf /tmp/vmmouse
cd /tmp
mkdir vmmouse
cd vmmouse

# Get the source debian package
apt-get source xserver-xorg-input-vmmouse

# Download the patch and apply it
wget

 -O revert-189dc266.patch
cd xserver-xorg-input-vmmouse-12.8.0
patch -p1 ../revert-189dc266.patch

# Rebuild the package
debuild -us -uc

# Install it
sudo dpkg -i ../xserver-xorg-input-vmmouse_12.8.0-1revert189dc266_*.deb

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 64bit completely freezes frequently

2012-05-11 Thread Brendan Brigham
I've trying to do some lite work today fixing my conkys that got messed up from
stupidly installing 12.04 and had a freeze every 5-8 minutes for 2 hours, it
won't be long and I'll have to replace my reset button o.O I should have stayed
with 11.04.
Was using gedit and viewing my home folder only so it's not like my i3 or
Nvidia card were working so I doubt it has anything to do with system usage.
Confirmed..but no importance ? There's gotta be thousands of systems that
are doing this and it's not labelled critical or assigned ?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 950950] Re: nvidia-settings does not remember settings, full hd monitor runs in interlaced mode every logout/reboot

2012-05-11 Thread Luis Alvarado
Confirmed. This happens 50% of the time with my TV connected via VGA. If
I connect it via HDMI it happens 100% of the time. The problem appears
to be that nvidia is not saving correctly the settings. Other errors are
having the resolution outside the borders of the TV, or the
