I confirm the recurrence of this bug in Precise Pengolin, with the nvidia-current driver version 295.40-0ubuntu1 installed. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 64bit completely freezes frequently
@ Norm. That's bad. I wanted to try the 32 bit version as I encounter the freezes with the 64 bit version. But if the 32 bit version does the same than that's no way out. Did you try the 64 bit version as well? It's necessary for the solution of this bug to know if both versions (64 and 32 bit) have this bug. I will probably try the 32 bit version as live version and test if it does have the same lock ups. If not I will install it and test it further. I would still love to use Ubuntu 12.04 and I don't mind to use the 32 bit version as the 64 bit doesn't really have any direct advantages for me. Strange that the importance of the bug is still undecided and has not yet been assigned to anyone. 25 users that take the trouble to report this bug must imply that there are at least hundreds, if not thousands of users running into trouble with this bug. And this bug is a real show stopper as it completely freezes the system! I ask my self what the developers are doing? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 998596] [NEW] Touchpad buttons on 2012 Samsung Series 9 do not work properly; left button double clicks and right button does not work at all
You have been subscribed to a public bug: The left click button works, but it double clicks. For instance, if I click a link with ctrl held down, it opens two new tabs. Right button doesn't work at all. This makes it very hard to do simple things like selecting text which would normally done by holding down the left button and dragging over the text. These buttons work fine in Windows, but not in Ubuntu 12.04. The buttons are part of the trackpad itself so I think that might be part of the problem (similar to a mac touchpad). A USB keyboard and mouse will work. The PS/2 keyboard and mouse will work using the same hardware and a fresh 10.04 Ubuntu install or a fresh Windows 7 install. So far I've tried running in the fresh 12.04 install: sudo apt-get install sudo apt-get upgrade sudo apt-get dist-upgrade After the apt-get upgraded the first time, I now get to the point where there are 0 items to be upgraded. Rebooted and still no PS/2 keyboard/mouse. I've also tried adding the following lines to GRUB at boot time (the PS/2 keyboard works in GRUB) acpi=noirq acpi=off Neither setting made any difference. The motherboard is a Foxconn D270S Atom based motherboard. Even more interestingly, 12.04 recognizes the same PS/2 keyboard and mouse on a separate Gigabyte AM3+ based motherboard. I only have this problem on this particular motherboard with Ubuntu 12.04. Update... I dug out an old PS/2 mouse that does not use a PS/2 to USB adapter but is directly wired for PS/2. Still no PS/2 keyboard or mouse after reboot. Again, I only have this problem with this motherboard and 12.04 Ubuntu. Other motherboards work fine with 12.04 and this motherboard works fine with 10.04. Update 2... I installed the 12.04 Server version. The text-based installer recognized the keyboard without issue, but after the first boot into the installed OS, the PS/2 keyboard would no longer respond. I tried installing Gnome on the Server install and the PS/2 mouse and keyboard don't work in Gnome either. --- AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.24. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 998741] [NEW] Xorg/nouveau crashes when switching notebook monitor back on
Public bug reported: A colleague and me are using Ubuntu 12.04 on Lenovo T410s [Nvidia NVS 3100M] in combination with a docking station and an external monitor and noticed following bug: Using the graphical tool for switching monitors: if you disable the internal notebook monitor, only using the external one, everything works fine (internal monitor is black). However, when you now try to reenable the internal monitor again (so having an extended desktop with both monitors), the external monitor goes black and both screens stay off. Looking at Xorg.0.log via SSH shows that some part of Xorg or the nouveau driver crashed. This happens both in 32 bit and 64 bit version of 12.04 and both in a fully updated system as well as when started as live system from USB stick. One way to prevent this from happening is to use xrandr --auto, then both monitors are in clone mode and you can use the graphical tool again for setting up your desired configuration. ** Affects: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: precise -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/998741 Title: Xorg/nouveau crashes when switching notebook monitor back on To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/998741/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 998741] Re: Xorg/nouveau crashes when switching notebook monitor back on
** Description changed: - A colleague and me are using Ubuntu 12.04 on Lenovo T410s [Nvidia NVS - 3100M] in combination with a docking station and an external monitor and - noticed following bug: + A colleague and me are using Ubuntu 12.04 on Lenovo T410 systems [Nvidia + NVS 3100M] in combination with a docking station and an external monitor + and noticed following bug: Using the graphical tool for switching monitors: if you disable the internal notebook monitor, only using the external one, everything works fine (internal monitor is black). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/998741 Title: Xorg/nouveau crashes when switching notebook monitor back on To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/998741/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 998841] [NEW] low resolution in monitor
Public bug reported: After upgrading to 12.04 the resolution is stuck at 1152x864, while the maximum resolution of this Dell 20 is 1600x1200, it was working fine on 11.04 and 11.10. If I open system-settings-displays it does not detect the maximum resolution. I used xrandr and after the window shows the new resolution. However when I click on it the screen goes dark and comes back in a minute back in the same condition as before without showing any longer the 1600x1200 option. I also played with the xorg.conf forcing the mode to be 1600x1200 to no avail. Let me know if you need further help. Thanks.
