[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 64bit completely freezes frequently

2012-05-13 Thread Norm
I have the same problem with the 32 Bit version.
Frequent random lockups, the only thing that will work is the mouse cursor,
hard reset to recover.
The problem has also occurred during normal shutdown and system hangs and
needs to be powered off to shutdown.
Have been forced to go back to Windows!
11.10 was working perfectly.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 185600] Re: [Upstream] LibreOffice repeatedly freezes after resuming laptop from sleep

2012-05-13 Thread David
I confirm the recurrence of this bug in Precise Pengolin, with the
nvidia-current driver version 295.40-0ubuntu1 installed.
After a resume from a suspend during which LibreOffice was running (tested with
writer), there is an abnormally high CPU usage (with possible hangup) when
scrolling up/down or paging up/down in the document.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 64bit completely freezes frequently

2012-05-13 Thread Hein
@ Norm. That's bad. I wanted to try the 32 bit version as I encounter
the freezes with the 64 bit version. But if the 32 bit version does the
same than that's no way out. Did you try the 64 bit version as well?
It's necessary for the solution of this bug to know if both versions (64
and 32 bit) have this bug.

I will probably try the 32 bit version as live version and test if it
does have the same lock ups. If not I will install it and test it
further. I would still love to use Ubuntu 12.04 and I don't mind to use
the 32 bit version as the 64 bit doesn't really have any direct
advantages for me.

Strange that the importance of the bug is still undecided and has not
yet been assigned to anyone. 25 users that take the trouble to report
this bug must imply that there are at least hundreds, if not thousands
of users running into trouble with this bug. And this bug is a real show
stopper as it completely freezes the system! I ask my self what the
developers are doing? Are they asleep?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 998596] [NEW] Touchpad buttons on 2012 Samsung Series 9 do not work properly; left button double clicks and right button does not work at all

2012-05-13 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

The left click button works, but it double clicks. For instance, if I
click a link with ctrl held down, it opens two new tabs. Right button
doesn't work at all. This makes it very hard to do simple things like
selecting text which would normally done by holding down the left button
and dragging over the text.

These buttons work fine in Windows, but not in Ubuntu 12.04. The buttons
are part of the trackpad itself so I think that might be part of the
problem (similar to a mac touchpad).

Running Ubuntu 64 on Acer Aspire 8730 (NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT), and
have the same problem when using xinerama to have dual display working
on 295.40. Unity 3d has exactly the same problem as described by
paulgault-r. I'm a linux newbie.. it says a fix was released -- where do
we find it / how do we apply it?

install it it will automatically install through software centre. It

 Title:
Wired PS/2 keyboard/mouse on Foxconn D270S Motherboard not responding
in 12.04 Live CD or after install. Same hardware works flawlessly with
  10.04

Status in “xserver-xorg-input-evdev” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

 Bug description:
My Wired PS/2 keyboard and mouse do not work in 12.04, either in a
fresh install or from the Live CD. A USB keyboard and mouse will work.
The PS/2 keyboard and mouse will work using the same hardware and a
fresh 10.04 Ubuntu install or a fresh Windows 7 install.

So far I've tried running in the fresh 12.04 install:

  sudo apt-get install

  sudo apt-get upgrade

  sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

After the apt-get upgraded the first time, I now get to the point
where there are 0 items to be upgraded. Rebooted and still no PS/2
  keyboard/mouse.

I've also tried adding the following lines to GRUB at boot time (the
  PS/2 keyboard works in GRUB)

  acpi=noirq

  acpi=off

  Neither setting made any difference.

The motherboard is a Foxconn D270S Atom based motherboard. Even more
interestingly, 12.04 recognizes the same PS/2 keyboard and mouse on a
separate Gigabyte AM3+ based motherboard. I only have this problem on
this particular motherboard with Ubuntu 12.04.

  Update...

I dug out an old PS/2 mouse that does not use a PS/2 to USB adapter
but is directly wired for PS/2. Still no PS/2 keyboard or mouse after
reboot. Again, I only have this problem with this motherboard and
12.04 Ubuntu. Other motherboards work fine with 12.04 and this
  motherboard works fine with 10.04.

  Update 2...

I installed the 12.04 Server version. The text-based installer recognized
the keyboard without issue, but after the first boot into the installed OS,
the PS/2 keyboard would no longer respond. I tried installing Gnome on the
Server install and the PS/2 mouse and keyboard don't work in Gnome either.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993827] Re: Logitech Wireless keyboard has bad layout on login screen

2012-05-13 Thread mmu2s
I tried to change keyboard layout from français (variante) [french
(alternative)] to français (sans touches mortes) [french (no dead
keys)] and the layout looked ok since then.

I'll try the logon screen in a minute and check wether it got fixed
there as well.

Looks like X does not set properly some of the layout configurations for
wireless keboards. How come ? I dont know.

This bug may impact other brands, not only logitech, did someone check
this ?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993827] Re: Logitech Wireless keyboard has bad layout on login screen

2012-05-13 Thread mmu2s
Well, it's fixed for me in the logon screen with layout français (sans
touches mortes).

This was related to the default french (alternative) layout. Maybe
it's not entierly related with wireless keyboards.

Note: I'd like to remind everybody that, in my case, the problem arose
after an upgrade from 11.04 = 12.04.

Does anybody had the issue from a fresh install ?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993827] Re: Logitech Wireless keyboard has bad layout on login screen

2012-05-13 Thread mmu2s
By the way, thanks to v66r for having inspiring me with the solution of
changing kb layout to an alternative one.

In my case, there is no ill behavior left in the logon screen.

In case it helps (but i'm not sure it can be compared to v66r german setting),
my /etc/defauts/keboard reads like this :
XKBMODEL=pc105
XKBLAYOUT=fr
XKBVARIANT=oss
XKBOPTIONS=

12.04 and now everything works as before except for the picture
appearing, just as described above (also an Intel GM965 integrated video
card).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 998741] [NEW] Xorg/nouveau crashes when switching notebook monitor back on

2012-05-13 Thread jones
Public bug reported:

A colleague and me are using Ubuntu 12.04 on Lenovo T410s [Nvidia NVS
3100M] in combination with a docking station and an external monitor and
noticed following bug:

Using the graphical tool for switching monitors: if you disable the
internal notebook monitor, only using the external one, everything works
fine (internal monitor is black). However, when you now try to reenable
the internal monitor again (so having an extended desktop with both
monitors), the external monitor goes black and both screens stay off.
Looking at Xorg.0.log via SSH shows that some part of Xorg or the
nouveau driver crashed.

This happens both in 32 bit and 64 bit version of 12.04 and both in a
fully updated system as well as when started as live system from USB
stick.

One way to prevent this from happening is to use xrandr --auto, then
both monitors are in clone mode and you can use the graphical tool again
for setting up your desired configuration.

Switching to Ubuntu 2D on login screen helps.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 998741] Re: Xorg/nouveau crashes when switching notebook monitor back on

2012-05-13 Thread jones
** Description changed:

- A colleague and me are using Ubuntu 12.04 on Lenovo T410s [Nvidia NVS
- 3100M] in combination with a docking station and an external monitor and
- noticed following bug:
+ A colleague and me are using Ubuntu 12.04 on Lenovo T410 systems [Nvidia
+ NVS 3100M] in combination with a docking station and an external monitor
+ and noticed following bug:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 998841] [NEW] low resolution in monitor

2012-05-13 Thread Daniel Senderowicz
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to 12.04 the resolution is stuck at 1152x864, while the
maximum resolution of this Dell 20 is 1600x1200, it was working fine on
11.04 and 11.10. If I open system-settings-displays it does not
detect the maximum resolution. I used xrandr and after the window shows
the new resolution. However when I click on it the screen goes dark and
comes back in a minute back in the same condition as before without
showing any longer the 1600x1200 option. I also played with the
xorg.conf forcing the mode to be 1600x1200 to no avail. Let me know if
you need further help.

Thanks.
