You have been subscribed to a public bug: Issue --- 12.04 64 bit Installation finished successfully with no errors. But nether login screen nor default desktop have mouse cursor. Mouse works but cursor pointer is completely invisible. However cursor shows up for little moment while in transition from login screen to desktop. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 64bit completely freezes frequently
Yesterday I did test run Ubuntu 12.04 32 bit from CD without any updates or closed source drivers. That went perfectly well: no hanging system, good performance. I'd love to install 12.04 32 bit and see how it does after taking the closed source nvidia drivers and updates, but I'm affraid I have an completely useless system once again. Problems with 64 bit version were also not there when test driving it from CD as far as I can remember. Has anybody tried to test his/her system with a clean install without updates and then adding the updates one by one? This could track down which update breaks 12.04 (if it is related to updates installed after installation as I suspect). If we know which update breaks Ubuntu it should be a bit easier to track down the problem!? Unfortunately I will not be able to test this in the coming 4 to 5 days. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 999056] [NEW] REGRESSION: 1920x1080 (standard HDTV) resolution with Intel graphics not working any more
Public bug reported: I have an Eizo EV2333WH-BK 23 monitor with 1920x1080 (16:9) as its native resolution and a motherboard with built-in Intel 82G965 graphics chipset. The monitor is connected via VGA cable. This worked perfectly with Ubuntu Oneiric. On Precise automatic installation chooses 1680x1050 (16:10) which is once not the native resolution of the monitor and second, not the correct aspect ratio. If I open the Displays part of the System Settings and choose 1920x1080 (16:9) manually, the GPU crashes with a completely messed up image and no possibility to stop this by switching to a text console. The computer actually switches on Ctrl+Alt+F1 (as a subsequent Ctrl+Alt+Del works) but the console does not get visible. The image does not change. Only rebooting via Ctrl+Alt+F1 and Ctrl+Alt+Del works and the display only gets correct after the complete shutdown when the PC returns into the BIOS. till@till-desktop:~$ lspci [...] 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82G965 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02) [...] ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: High Status: New ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = High -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/999056 Title: REGRESSION: 1920x1080 (standard HDTV) resolution with Intel graphics not working any more To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/999056/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 982485] Re: [regression] Nvidia 295.40: Unity 3D does not work at all with the new nvidia driver
Mine is working again. I have Nvidia Geforce Go 6150 integrated graphics inside a Compaq Presario V3000. When -proposed was released, I first uninstalled nvidia-current and installed nvidia-current-update (295.49) from -proposed. It worked fine. So, when the nvidia-current 295.49 driver was finally released, I uninstalled nvidia-current-update and reinstalled nvidia-current, not without running apt-get update first. For those who are still having unity2D being loaded, I know it may sound silly but... have you checked if Unity3D is selected as the main session? I've done this mistake a thousand times myself, checking unity2D whenever I had a problem with 3D and always forgetting to change it back when a fix was released. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/982485 Title: [regression] Nvidia 295.40: Unity 3D does not work at all with the new nvidia driver To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nvidia-drivers-ubuntu/+bug/982485/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 995013] Re: Xorg freeze after lid closed/opened (screen turned off/on) several times
I hope this isn't old news, but I've done a little bit of testing and found that the following lines appeared in my /var/log/Xorg.0.log when this freeze occured: [ 4255.536] (WW) intel(0): flip queue failed: Invalid argument [ 4255.536] (WW) intel(0): Page flip failed: Invalid argument I understand that the numbers in square brackets are timestamps of number of seconds since boot. I haven't found a simple way of converting these to human readable times (knowledge of the 'date' command clearly lacking) but at any rate, a google of these lines lead me to comments 30 and 38 on bug 966744 which seems to suggest that these two bugs are at least related if not actual duplicates. Can anyone confirm that these line are appearing in their Xorg.0.log (if viewing in during a freeze using tty) or Xorg.0.log.old after running 'sudo service lightdm restart' and getting back to X (by running: grep Invalid argument /var/log/Xorg.0.log)? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/995013 Title: Xorg freeze after lid closed/opened (screen turned off/on) several times To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/995013/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 64bit completely freezes frequently
I get complete freezes running Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit on an Intel Ivy Bridge machine with integrated graphics. For me, one way to induce a freeze is to randomly drag the map in Google Maps, both in Firefox and Chromium. The freeze will occur within a few seconds of dragging. This happens in Unity 3D as well as Gnome Shell, Unity 2D seems to be stable. I suppose this is a 3D-only issue. When running Unity 3D from a live USB stick I can not reproduce any complete freezes with the map-dragging method, but Firefox freezes for a short time every few seconds. Sometimes the window turns dark. However, the mouse is movable the whole time. When I make a fresh install as suggested by Hein (#51) the freezes are back, which is why I assume that the problem is not introduced by an update. Many of you seem to use mobile or integrated graphics. Chase, I did both to confirm. The test I use is the network manager's connect to hidden network and then the dropdown to select previously connected to hidden networks. First boot it works just fine with clicking the trackpad as well as tapping. After suspend, clicking always acts as a double click (effectively opening and closing the dropdown very quickly) and tapping works just fine. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 999191] [NEW] X crashes with gnome-session: Fatal IO error 11
Public bug reported: This might be a duplicate of bug #907383 It started happening after upgrading to ubuntu 12.04. Several times a day, the gnome session crashes and drops me to GDM. This happens with Unity and gnome shell. It doesn't happen with unity-2d. Since Christopher M. Penalver (penalvch) asked to do ubuntu-bug xorg in the original report, I did it since I have probably the same problem. I hope It's OK. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 980017] Re: [i965gm] GPU lockup render.IPEHR: 0x02000004
** Description changed: - Machine sporatically locks up while running compiz. + [Impact] + Lockup several times a day preceded by corruption, started immediately after upgrading to precise on 1st April. Does not occur with Unity 2D. Seems to be more frequently triggered when using the Unity 3D application switcher. + + Bug is believed to be specific to gen4 hardware (e.g. i965). + + [Development Fix] + Fixed upstream, and backported to the 8.0 stable branch. + This fix was cherrypicked and is uploaded to Quantal. + + The patch essentially moves a chunk of code to be executed only after + the start of drawing. This chunk of code creates a single-level miptree + for rendering to as a workaround for a gen4-specific limitation. The + problem is that this was causing some code to use the renderbuffer's + contents before it was actually ready to be used (thus the glitches). + + [Stable Fix] + Since the same version of mesa is (currently) in Precise as in Quantal, the same patch can be used. + + [Test Case] + 1. On affected i965 systems, + 2. boot into Unity 3d + 3. Repeatedly use application switching, open and close windows, etc. + 4. Should see the described bug in the course of 1 day of such testing + + [Regression Potential] + The patch is on the large side, which can be a bit worrying, but the changes are essentially just shifting code from one area to another. On the plus side, the patch has been carried in the upstream tree and the upstream stable branch for a number of months now. + + The chunk of code appears to be limited to execution only on certain + hardware. It tests for certain missing features which I gather only + occur on certain i965 hardware. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 64bit completely freezes frequently
This is obviously at least 2 or 3 different problems. My problems seem to have cleared up after upgrading to NVIDIA's 295.49 drivers. My SysRq key continued to work even under massive lockup. Most of us experienced common symptoms: A near complete system freeze with mouse continuing to work implies a unity3d or compiz problem in some way. The only log entries I had that are suggestive any way are likely symptoms of the lockup and system loads in the 40+ range. I think what a lot of us want is guidance as to how to help diagnose a system that's locked up or going to lock up in this way. If there were only a Magic SysRq key that replied back with which process is causing the system to go to hell. I'd reccomend going to a text-console and letting top run constantly. If the system starts getting sluggish you can switch back to the console and see what's sucking up all the CPU/IO time. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993187 Title: ubuntu 12.04 64bit completely freezes frequently To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/993187/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 999326] [NEW] graphics display error
Public bug reported: I'm not a technical person. I've recently upgraded to 12.04 Then shortly after that I couldn't play videos. The players would either crash or not display the video, only the audio. I've filed two bug reports for vlc without getting anywhere so far. Now I just ran checkbox-gtk and I was told that the graphics deisplay test failed. Hopefully there lies the problem for all my recent system troubles. I'd like to mention one more symptom. Since this error thing appeared sometimes all cpu is used, which is not normal at all even though I have a very weak cpu. Xorg alone would consume 40% of the cpu. That's all I can think of.
