[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1013171] Re: Many package hooks not ported to python3

2012-06-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package apport - 2.2.3-0ubuntu1

---
apport (2.2.3-0ubuntu1) quantal; urgency=low

  [ Martin Pitt ]
  * New upstream bug fix release:
- test/run: Do not run pep8 and pyflakes when running against the sytem
  installed Apport.
- test_backend_apt_dpkg.py: For the are we online check, verify that we
can
download from http://ddebs.ubuntu.com/, not just whether we have a default
route. The latter is not sufficient for e. g. buildd environments which
are
online, but are restricted by proxies or firewalls.
- test_report.py: Call sync after test script write core dumps, to ensure
that subsequent operations have a complete one.
- test_signal_crashes.py: Drop the broken and obsolete test_local_python()
test. Instead, add two tests which check proper logging.
- launchpad.py: Fix urlopen() for Python3. Thanks Steve Langasek.
- test/run: Run the tests under LC_MESSAGES=C, to avoid failing tests on
  translated strings.
  * debian/control: Add libc6-dbg | libc6-dbgsym dependency to apport-retrace,
to ensure gdb can decipher the abort_msg_s struct and thus read assertion
messages. Also add libc6-dbg to debian/tests/control so that
report.test_add_gdb_info_abort can succeed in autopkgtest.
  * debian/control, debian/tests/control: apport-retrace needs a terminal
emulator, so add an x-terminal-emulator dependency. Add xterm as build and
autopkgtest dependency, so that the tests have one available.
  * debian/control: Drop python-launchpadlib from Depends to Suggests for
python-apport, too.

  [ Steve Langasek ]
  * debian/rules: call dh_python3 with --skip-private, to avoid incorrect
generation of a .rtupdate script for /usr/share/apport. LP: #1013171.

2012-06-15 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Denis: a backport kernel will be provided in the main repository after
12.10 is released (along with a backported X stack). But it won't
replace the default kernel.

thanks for the script, I'll try if that triggers the crash here. 3.4-rc1
has been stable so far running that and a kernel build at the same time
(load ~24).

2012-06-15 Thread Timo Aaltonen
The script runs stable on 3.3-rc1, hangs almost immediately on 3.2.20.
But I'm seeing a hang with 3.3.x as well, so these are two separate
issues but we can track them both here..

So we need to bisect this hang from v3.2-v3.3-rc1, and the other one
v3.3-v3.4-rc1.. fun! At least the script makes it faster to confirm the
first bisection..

2012-06-15 Thread Tobias Newe
Solved ..!

..so I had the same Problem with a Ati Radeon 5700 HD GFX-Card and AMD-Drivers
installed ... in my way it was the Compiz ...
I removed all self-made Options in the Compiz-CCSM and reseted it to the
default, after that all was normal again, no freezes ...
It must be some extra Options in Compiz-CCSM that, I think that Unity 3D did
not like !!! ...

regards ..

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2012-06-15 Thread Brendan Brigham
For those with dedicated Nvidia GC's, Nvidia has apparently fixed their
drivers. I couldn't use them previously due to lack of multiple monitor support
but they now work, which solved the constant hard freezes for me instantly.
I've been pushing it running videos on both screens while recording hd video
from my webcam without a single problem.
It's looking like Nouveau has the issue ?

They've changed the bug report I linked to two posts up to reflect it...
affects:unity (Ubuntu) → xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (Ubuntu)
Changed in xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (Ubuntu):
status: Incomplete → Confirmed

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1001539] Re: Nvidia 295.53: Unity 3D does not work at all with the new nvidia driver

2012-06-15 Thread angus
I agree with Peti in that all was well for me in my previous installation
(11.10).oh why did I upgrade???
Well, I assumed that stuff that worked in 11.10 would still work in
12.04.wrong!

It's enough to drive me to mint!but then I'd lose the unity desktop
which I actually like!

2012-06-15 Thread Timo Aaltonen
3.2.0-25 got released to -updates, and -26 is now being prepared. It
might still get bugfixes in it before it's pushed to -proposed, and
these are good candidates for that. So it shouldn't take _that_ long
before it hits the repo.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 966744] Re: Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended (though the mouse still moves/changes cursor)

2012-06-15 Thread Josephus Beale
I've been running kernel ppa 3.4 from mainline for about 2 days now and
it seems to have fixed the problem. I have yet to encounter a black
screen or any other issue with resume since installing this kernel.
Hopefully, this kernel version will make its way to release via an
update.

before I used to get 2-3 crashes a day. I am not sure at this point what
exactly is making a difference (it could have been an update for what I
know). I promise I will try to revert the settings and pinpoint what is
fixing it for me. But reporting it now to let other people know that
there is hope.

Timo, nice work! Your kernel is running beautifully here as well. Please
try to get this in -26. Are kernel SRU releases scheduled?

On further investigation, the reason for the closure c being corrupt
seems to be related to the changes added in commit 3ab6cd31 to fix bug
#3040.

In doListFontsAndAliases(), if we get a Suspended result when the client
is already sleeping with the same closure (I don't really understand
enough what the code is doing to know if that's expected or not), then
the xinerama_sleep code frees() the closure c, so when it next wakes,
the closure c is being used after being freed.

Being a use after free bug possibly explains why the original reporter
is able to avoid the crash by changing the sequence of actions slightly.

The crash is not observed after reverting the noted commit, or with
xserver 1.8.2

Haven't tested this thoroughly, as I'm not convinced early-out is really
the right way to handle Xinerama here, but I think this should fix the
crashes at least. Feel free to try it out.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1013627] Re: xorg

2012-06-15 Thread Dave Lentz
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 999910] Re: [IVB]12.04 64 bit System freezes (mouse, keyboard)

2012-06-15 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Carl: great to hear!

Yeah the cadence is three weeks IIRC, so in three weeks -26 will be
released, but there needs to be one week for the certification team to
run their tests on a bunch of machines, but select high-impact fixes can
indeed make it. I'll send these to the upstream stable queue by Monday,
and then propose them for inclusion in -26.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2012-06-15 Thread Steve Riley
Well, on day five with kernel 3.5rc2 (and _rc6=0 and _fbc=0), I finally
experienced a freeze. During the middle a VoIP call. So the root cause
of this nasty bug *still* appears unsolved.

QUESTION FOR ALL: has anyone experienced this problem while using a
machine that has *no* external USB devices attached?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1009971] Re: apport-gpu-error-intel.py pop-up continuously

2012-06-15 Thread Bryce Harrington
This is interesting. Apport is disabled in the release itself, so this
hook should not be getting triggered at all.

Now, it is possible to manually turn apport on post-release, but I can't
tell if that's what happened here. In any case, even if that is done,
we still don't want the gpu lockup script running.

This wouldn't be a big deal as it would just help people experiencing
GPU lockups report more bugs to us, however it appears that at least in
some cases this is getting triggered by the false GPU lockups, where the
user does not experience any lockups at all. In those cases, this hook
being triggered presents a continual annoyance to the users, and makes
Ubuntu look less robust than it is. So, the script needs quelled.

Since it's not our intention for this script to be invoked in the
release anyway, even if apport is enabled, I think the appropriate fix
is to disable the udev rule that triggers this script. That should
resolve this and a few other corner case problems that have cropped up.

Setting to wontfix for quantal because we do want the bug reports for
development, even the false positives. The false positives we need to
figure out how to quell some other way, but that's going to be handled
in bug #983640.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1009971] Re: apport-gpu-error-intel.py pop-up continuously

2012-06-15 Thread Bryce Harrington
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+ Apport is disabled in the release itself, so this hook should not be getting
triggered at all. However, for some users it does. This wouldn't be a big
deal, except it also gets triggered in cases where no GPU lockup was
experienced (aka False GPU lockups - bug #983640), which gives poor user
experience.
+
+ [Development Fix]
+ Since we want any and all GPU lockup reports in the development release, we
leave things as they are, and focus on getting a targeted fix to just #983640.
+
+ [Stable Fix]
+ Since we don't intend for the GPU lockup hook to be run at all, whether or
not Apport is enabled, in the stable release we forcefully disable the udev
hook entirely.
+
+ If someone does specifically want this enabled, they'd need to also
+ manually enable apport and so forth, in addition to re-enabling this
+ udev rule. But I think it'd probably be easier for these people to just
+ manually collect the gpu dump and dmesg directly, so don't expect anyone
+ to need the script.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ The issues have been strange corner case problems that seem to be highly
hardware-specific, and not synthetically reproducible.
+ 1. On affected hardware, boot into a regular user session normally
+
+ Expected Behavior: No apport popups about GPU lockups
+ Broken Behavior: Apport pops up dialog about a GPU lockup bug, when nothing
of the sort had actually happened.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ None really, as this is just disabling functionality we don't need enabled in
the release.
+
+ The class of regressions to watch for with this would be udev-related
+ problems, or odd apport behaviors. But I don't think anything untoward
+ is remotely likely to happen.
+
+ [Original Report]
The problem started after the 12.04 upgrading process.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 997470] Re: apport-gpu-error-intel.py keep crashing for 4-5 times on every reboot

2012-06-15 Thread Bryce Harrington
** Description changed:

- I installed ubuntu 12.04 recently on a DELL inspiron 1440 notebook. I
- think the chipset is GM45 something. I am quite fresh on linux operation
- system. I do not know how could I solve this problem. It seems not only
- me have this problem.
+ I installed ubuntu 12.04 recently on a DELL inspiron 1440 notebook. I think
the chipset is GM45 something. I am quite fresh on linux operation system. I do
not know how could I solve this problem. It seems not only me have this problem.

X doesn't trigger apport successfully with some kinds of crashes, so I
think this is not an apport problem but rather an issue with our patch
in the X server.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1010895] Re: apport says probably fresh install when system is fully upgraded

That text comes from the X/compiz apport hook.

The logic to determine this is a bit of a heuristic, and could probably
be done in a more reliable way.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 883812] Re: mouse cursor wigs out

2012-06-15 Thread Kai
I know this is old and my answer is probably simple and obvious but
under Settings/Mouse and Touchpad (I am using XFCE/Lubuntu), I had three
devices simultaneously enabled: A Mouse, A dual-point Stick and a Touch
Pad - As I am using a Dell Laptop with only a touchpad, disabling the
other two devices and disabling the extra touch-pad features quieted
everything down for me.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1013881] [NEW] Right-Ctrl key broken on French OSS keyboard

2012-06-15 Thread Emmanuel Castro
Public bug reported:

Since the version 2.5-1ubuntu1.2 of the package xkb-data, the right CTRL key of
the keyboard has ceased to work.
The problem started when APT has updated the xkd-data from 2.5-1ubuntu1 to

If I switch back to 2.5.-1ubuntu1 using Synaptic, it works back.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1013890] [NEW] Xorg freeze

2012-06-15 Thread Mike Sterling
Public bug reported:

When trying to boot a VM running on Windows Server 2012 Release
Candidate (Build 8400) with 1 virtual processor, the system will hang.
With Precise, I'm unable to log in via SSH. However, with Quantal, I can
log in with SSH and get the attached debug spew.

This appears to be specific to a Sandy Bridge based system (Intel Xeon
E5-4620). I'm unable to repro on non-Sandy Bridge systems.

Thankyou Michael Stephenson. That was all I need to know; rebuild the
Nvidia driver and it works. I'll keep that in mind until Cannonical gets
it.

Running GeForce 7150M / nForce 630M/PCI/SSE2/3DNOW!
