[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1012916] Re: [nouveau] 12.04 Unity 3d hard freezes
Well I have determined that for me this problem is caused by linux kernel 3.5.0-3 (pulled in via linux-image-generic) which was installed on my system via xorg-edgers ppa. I removed this and went back to the generic precise kernel which is currently 3.2.0-26 and my lockups have gone. I am still using xorg-edgers ppa, just back-graded that kernel version. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1012916 Title: [nouveau] 12.04 Unity 3d hard freezes To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/1012916/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1015183] Re: Inconsistent mouse events for Acer T231H multitouch monitor
Hi Chase, thank you for looking into this, and working towards a solution. Is the patch you referenced intended as a replacement for both my patches? Working with the touch screen alone, things work out fairly well. But if I also use a mouse, then the lack of a TOUCH_END event still causes the mouse moves to register as drags, i.e. with state 0x100. So I feel like your patch might be a suitable replacement for the one in comment #12, but the one in comment #11 is still required. I guess you head a good reason to write the changes I mentioned in comment #8, the ones which #11 backs out. I must confess I still haven't fully understood the rationale behind that commit, mostly because I still don't know about that listener concept. So perhaps you want to improve that change instead of reverting it. A proper proof should probably get rid of every occurrence of the TOUCH_END macro in the code. It should be tested on a setup with both a touch and a classical mouse device. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1015183 Title: Inconsistent mouse events for Acer T231H multitouch monitor To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1015183/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1015183] Re: Inconsistent mouse events for Acer T231H multitouch monitor
With that patch by Chase, I also wonder what would happen if two touch devices were used simultaneously. When I both touch my screen and click my conventional mouse button, I get two button events, but the state is the bitwise or of both, so the second click will be pressed button 1 while button 1 was pressed. Makes sense, in a certain way, although it might well confuse some applications. But what if I had two touch devices controlling the core pointer? I believe it is likely with the current setup that in this case, the second device would generate a ButtonPress with state 0x000. Or is it impossible for more than one touch device to control the core pointer at a given time? I don't have more than one device, so I can't test this. I'll agree that given current technology, this seems a rather rare corner case, and probably not worth the effort to deal with properly. But any shortcomings in that respect should perhaps at least be documented somewhere.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 986371] Re: Regression in nvidia-graphics-drivers causes freezes in combination with gnome-screensaver
295.49-0ubuntu0.1 is available in Precise - see https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-updates Sebastian has made some good suggestions for fixing this bug in Lucid, but the problem is that this driver is proprietary and closed-source. Without the source code we can't do anything other than rely on NVIDIA to backport the fix for this bug to older driver series. Their driver is basically a locked box and we can't even see inside to see what is happening. Checking http://www.nvidia.co.uk/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en- uk shows that NVIDIA have not yet backported this fix to the 195.xx driver series. I found a report that states that unofficial support for new X Server releases can be enabled by passing the X.Org Server the -ignoreABI argument to ignore the ABI differences. I'm not sure if this works in reverse (i.e. enabling the newer driver to support older X Server releases). I'm also unsure how one goes about passing this argument to the X Server - perhaps in the xorg.conf file? I don't have time to follow this up further now but I thought I'd mention it in case you can figure it out and it might help you. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/986371 Title: Regression in nvidia-graphics-drivers causes freezes in combination with gnome-screensaver To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/986371/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1021005] [NEW] Compaq Presario touch pad will not disable while typing in Ubuntu 12.04

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1021005] Re: Compaq Presario touch pad will not disable while typing in Ubuntu 12.04
The origional touchpad disable while typing issue is still not fixed but I found a decent work around for this issue by installing touchpad- indicator through the terminal using: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:atareao/atareao sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install touchpad-indicator I then added the program to my start up applications. The program doesn't disable the touch pad while typing (eventhough the description said it would) but it does disable the touch pad effectively if I plug in a mouse; also, I can assign a keyboard short cut to turn the touchpad on and off at will . Since I often use a wireless mouse anyway, this solution works for me. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1021005 Title: Compaq Presario touch pad will not disable while typing in Ubuntu 12.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/1021005/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1021019] Re: generic wireless mouse not working
The logs are not going to help as it requires modifying the kernel, i've already put the patch code that fixes it at the top of this thread though i can email to who ever wants it. I've tested this on 2 systems (using a 32bit and 64bit laptop) with kernels 3.2.0 (generic 24 25) as well as from kernels.org sources using 3.3.7, 3.3.8, 3.4.2, and 3.4.4 the patch fixes it. I haven't bothered testing it with generic 26 since i'm happily working with 3.4.4 so far. ** Patch added: kernel patch for novatek (generic) wireless mouse https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-mouse/+bug/1021019/+attachment/3213388/+files/novatech-mouse.patch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-mouse in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1021019 Title: generic wireless mouse not working To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1021019/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1021035] [NEW] black screen after waking up the screen
Public bug reported: It happened to me twice in the last few days. Sometimes when I open laptop's lid some time after locking the screen, the gnome-screensaver unlock dialog is missing, or even the screen is completely blank - I can only see a cursor. All apps are working, I can hear their sounds. I can even switch to the console using Alt+F1. I'm just unable to log back into my account and continue the work. The only way I know to deal with the problem is to restart lightdm, but, obviously, I lose all unsaved data. i915state doesn't show any problem. My notebook: Asus K53SV i5-2410M HD3000+GT540M (works thanks to the Bumblebee) Please let me know if there's something I forgot about, but it's needed to fix the problem. It's probably the last thing stopping me from switching to Ubuntu for good. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1015183] Re: Inconsistent mouse events for Acer T231H multitouch monitor
Hello, Thanks Martin for your PPA and the precise packages; unfortunately, I run amd64 :-/ I first applied only #19 patch (yes, it did require some adjustments) to the latest precise X.org packages (1.11.4-0ubuntu10.3): behavior remains the same (at least as far as Compiz plugins are concerned: Expo triggers the issue systematically, Shift Switcher one time out of two). Then I saw Martin's comment and applied patches #11 and #19: behavior remains the same (as far as Compiz plugins...) AND windows moving (clicking-holding-dragging) is lost right from the start. I think we can conclude that #11 triggers the windows moving (clicking- holding-dragging) is lost issue (since I also bumped into it #17) Now, I'm wondering whether Compiz might have some problem on its own. Example given: I loose single/double click as soon as I launch the Expo plugin and select (double-click on) a viewport. After, no amount of single/double-clicking does anything (on desktop icons, windows minimize/maximize/close buttons, panel applets, etc.). BUT, single /double-clicking still work in Compiz plugin (if I launch the Expo or Shift Switcher, single/double-clicking works). I also gave #19 patch (alone) a try without launching Compiz (use metacity alone instead) or multi-touch (ginn) stuff. Before, even in that (no-compiz/no-ginn) scenario, single/double-clicking got lost rather rapidly. Here, I've been clicking and double-clicking around and using applications for several minutes without any problem. As soon as I launch ginn again, I start to have some problems with the applets icons (most of the time, they don't react to single click, though they sometime - rarely - still do). Other single/double-clicking still works. Launching Compiz alone (without ginn), and all problems are back. Conclusion using patch #19, without patch #11 (cf. windows moving (clicking-holding-dragging) is lost issue), without Compiz (cf. single /double-clicking is lost issue) and without ginn (cf. applets react only whimsically to single-click issue), single/double-clicking at least seems to work reliably enough to allow the touchscreen to be used (before, it was a no go), even if sometime, one must (single) click two time on an icon for the expected behavior to happen. About that sometime, one must (single) click two time on an icon for the expected behavior to happen: I can reproduce the behavior systematically by: 1. clicking on a network-manager icon (menu opens), 2. clicking on the desktop to close the menu (menu closes), 3. clicking on a network-manager icon again (menu does not open; instead, a selection rectangle is drawn), 4. clicking on a network-manager icon again (this time, menu opens again) Let me know if I can help any further. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1015183 Title: Inconsistent mouse events for Acer T231H multitouch monitor To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1015183/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1015183] Re: Inconsistent mouse events for Acer T231H multitouch monitor
Hi Cédric, Although this took a little while longer, the amd packages have been built successfully by now, and are available from my ppa. I have the impression that your problems manifest in cases when some application is listening to the higher level touch interfaces, presumably using XInput. My problems on the other hand occur in a bare bones X where applications only use the core pointer. Those appear to be two sides of a coin: the commit reverted by comment #11 was intended to deal with a changing set of listeners, which to me sounds like some gesture-interpreting software. So it seems you need that fix, but I can't have it, as it breaks the core pointer. Let's hope someone finds a fix which will work with multiple listeners and still maintain proper core pointer state. As things work all right for me at the moment, I have little incentive to work on a part of this issue that doesn't affect me. Particularly as I haven't got all this gesture stuff set up to work for me, so I cannot test things yet.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1021024] [NEW] Switchable graphics ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5xxx Series don't work in Ubuntu
You have been subscribed to a public bug: In Ubuntu 12.04, the switchable graphics ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5xxx Series don't work. It was working previously with the catalyst driver from the ATI website in Ubuntu 11.10 or 11.04 (I don't remember). With the free dirver, Intel and ATI cards are running together. We can't choose one of them nor power off the second one. Thus the battery of the laptop dies quickly. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1013881] Re: Right-Ctrl key broken on French OSS keyboard
I've analysed the use of nbsp(levelX) in all the keyboards defined in /usr/share/X11/xkb Keyboards defining nbsp on level 3: ./symbols/tr:include nbsp(level3) ./symbols/fi:include nbsp(level3) ./symbols/lt:include nbsp(level3) ./symbols/fr:include nbsp(level3) // French (legacy, alternative) ./symbols/no:include nbsp(level3n) ./symbols/ca:include nbsp(level3s) Keyboards defineinf nbsp on level4: ./symbols/fi:include nbsp(level4) ./symbols/fi:include nbsp(level4) ./symbols/fr:include nbsp(level4nl)// The only keyboard using level4nl -- which I think is buggy. What nbsp(levelX) exactly means: nbsp:level2 Non-breakable space character at second level nbsp:level3 Non-breakable space character at third level nbsp:level3s Non-breakable space character at third level, nothing at fourth level nbsp:level3n Non-breakable space character at third level, thin non-breakable space character at fourth level nbsp:level4 Non-breakable space character at fourth level nbsp:level4n Non-breakable space character at fourth level, thin non-breakable space character at sixth level nbsp:level4nlNon-breakable space character at fourth level, thin non-breakable space character at sixth level (via Ctrl+Shift) Broken with RhythmBox We have the following choices after dropping the level4nl (which is the cause of the RhythmBox problem): – using level4n works (I've tested it), but actually I can't produce thin-nbsp as I don't know how to get sixth level. However, fr-oss defines thin-nbsp on AltGr-V. – using level4 might work just like level4n (I can test it). It has the advantage of being in use in finish keyboard (fewer risk of bug). – level3s is in use in Canada, but as you said, some people have complained that it leads to mistyping (I don't agree, but it is only my opinion). If you want nbsp accessible from the space bar, with a slight change for those who use AltGr-Shift-Space to get nbsp, choose level3n. * nsbp on AltGr-Space / thin-nbsp on AltGet-Shift-Space and AltGr-V) If you want a conservative choice, choose level4 (thin-nbsp still available on Alt-Gr V). * nsbp on AltGr-Shift-Space / thin-nbsp on AltGr-V) I prefer the first option, but I won't complain if you choose the conservative one. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xkeyboard-config in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1013881 Title: Right-Ctrl key broken on French OSS keyboard To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xkeyboard-config/+bug/1013881/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 930080] Re: Mouse (touchpad) jumps while typing although it should be disabled
Yes this bug makes using the affected laptop almost useless if a large amount of typing needs to be done. The original touchpad disable while typing issue is still not fixed but I found a decent work around for this issue by installing touchpad- indicator through the terminal using: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:atareao/atareao sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install touchpad-indicator I then added the program to my start up applications. This program will disable the touchpad if a mouse is plugged in and will allow you to assign a keyboard short cut to manually turn the pad on and off. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/930080 Title: Mouse (touchpad) jumps while typing although it should be disabled To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/930080/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1016854] Re: Desktop appearance changes after locking desktop for few minutes
Yeah, it definitely seems like a Unity crash. In that case, do you have any .crash files for compiz in /var/crash? If so, can you run the command apport-bug /var/crash/NAME_OF_CRASH_FILE.crash and file a new bug report for it? If that does work, then we can close this bug since apport will file a new one with all relevant details. Also, be sure to give us the bug number of the new bug if you file one. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 945006] Re: Screen flickers heavily after upgrading to 12.04 beta 1
I'm seeing the same problem on my desktop system (Dell 745), although mine is more like #18 than some of the other descriptions. I'm running Mint 13 (based on Ubuntu 12.04), kernel 3.2.0-26-generic. The version of xserver-xorg-video-intel is 2:2.17.0-1ubuntu4. Mint 12 has been working fine for months on this system. The easiest way that I've found to reproduce is to try unmirroring or mirroring the displays. Trying to change the resolution of a monitor usually causes it too. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/945006 Title: Screen flickers heavily after upgrading to 12.04 beta 1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/945006/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 761065] Re: [Sandybridge] Spurious *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... blt ring idle messages in dmesg when using compiz
Why does it say this bug is fixed for natty, when it still is happening? I have fully upgraded my system (to the 2.6.38-15 kernel) and it's still happening. I have tried a lot of workarounds mentioned here, none work, I still get GPU hangs. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/761065 Title: [Sandybridge] Spurious *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... blt ring idle messages in dmesg when using compiz To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/761065/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 948053] Re: nvidia-96 and nvidia-173 uninstallable on Precise
Hi Alberto, I've noticed the updated driver, how do I go about installing this? I have installed the x-swat repo and currently have the nvidia-current driver activated but not being used. I tried downloading the nvidia-graphcis-drivers-173-updates deb and installing with dpkg, which installed fine. I activated the driver in additional drivers and rebooted but I ended up with a 640x480 resolution. And that's where I'm stuck. Any help or instructions would be appreciated.
